Footer sitewide links
-
Here's a question - does having a "website designed by" reference in the footer of every page of one of your clients help or hurt? I have a major university .edu that I designed a site for one of their departments and it is just about to launch and they've allowed me to put a reference in the footer.
I've had pretty good luck with this on my other clients' sites, but didn't know if this practice is seen as spammy.
Thanks

Can't hurt, although I think it would look more 'natural' to get a link from just one page (even if footer), ideally a hiuh-level page.

Chas,
In general having the same kind of links coming to your site does make your backlink profile less organic and Google will probably devalue some of them. Also, Google in general devalues footer links.
There are 12 types of links: (http://www.stuntdubl.com/2006/08/21/link-types/ here is a link to a blog post by stuntdubl) This post was published in 2006, so I would add social media links to it, but other than that the info is good.
- Authority links
- Directory links
- Reciprocal links
- Run of site links
- One way links from friends or related sites
- Edu and .Gov links
- Radio station, television, magazine, or newspaper links
- Press release links
- Article bio links
- RSS/ Blog aggregated links
- Comment and Profile Links
- Presell Page Links
If 90% of your links coming to your site are run of site links at the bottom of your page, you could probably benefit from diversifying your blacklinks. Read through the post and start coming up with some strategies to get different types of links to your site. One idea is to change a couple of your run of site links to a Presell Page Links. This could help you get some more value out of the run of site links, IF majority of the links coming to your site are run of site links.
However, that being said I would take any kind of .edu link that I could get.
I hope this helps,
Cyle

While I don't think it's the BEST possible link you could hope for, I don't see how this could hurt at all. I know that a huge portion of the "Free Themes/Layouts" community is based on the principle that giving out free work helps to build rankings via those links in the footer. Since the university is kosher with you doing it, I would jump at the chance.

Link Brokers Yes or No?
We have a client who has asked us to talk to link brokers to speed up the back linking process. Although I've been aware of them for ages I have never openly discussed the possible use of 'buying' links or engaging in that part of the industry. Do they have a place in SEO and if so what is the MOZ communities thoughts?

Link from Google.com
Hi guys I've just seen a website get a link from Google's Webmaster Snippet testing tool. Basically, they've linked to a results page for their own website test. Here's an example of what this would look like for a result on my website. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.impression.co.uk There's a meta nofollow, but I just wondered what everyone's take is on Trust, etc, passing down? (Don't worry, I'm not encouraging people to go out spamming links to results pages!) Looking forward to some interesting responses!

What Are Latest Internal Linking Strategies?
I have been doing a little research, but all the articles are really old. Even the Moz site page is pretty old. So I am wondering, has the strategy changed? Is it OK to still use internal links with your keywords in them? Do you have multiple links on a page? What about a blog post? Do you no follow? What are the thoughts out there on this?

Link Building for E-Commerce
Hi, Our on page optimization, albeit for a few dupe content issues, is ok - We have good keyword rich URL's, Titles, H1's and unique product descriptions. So now I want to look at building links that will boost our DA and PA's. We have over 2000 products on the store and around 130 categories/subcategories -and I would appreciate any views on where to start - My initial view is to get backlinks from the relevant manufacturer websites to the "shop by brand" page on our site related to these manufacturers - What other strategies should I look at? Thanks, Ben

Is this splitting my authority or link juice?
Hi Using seomoz i am getting told that a 302 temporary redirect is occurring on some of my pages for instance. http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/ Then redirects here http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/default.phuse is this splitting my page authority because of the temporary redirect? I just want to make sure i have fully understood what's happening before i go to the company who designed and developed our site as i am convinced this is hurting my rankings. Thanks
