Best Website Security Service
-
Having been hacked twice and, it seems, still suffering from problems as a result (file changes and alterations, etc) I'm wondering if there is a good paid service that provides security for websites?
I'm an online travel agent so our websites "up-time" and search engine position is vital but I'm spending more time trying sort out our websites' security than selling travel.
It would be sensible to pay for a service that would ensure, as much as possible, that our site is secure and any optimisation we do is not cancelled out by hacking and security problems.
If anyone could recommend a good company I would be very grateful.

Thanks very much Matt.

No problem - an SSL isn't going to prevent the problem you have, but that is why I mentioned going down the route of an SSL with extras such as daily malware scanning and weekly vulnerability assessment.
Verisign would have most likely alerted you to the potential issue before hand so you could have fixed the vulnerability. Also if your site is compromised with malware it will alert you, so you can take immediate action.
As far as SSL goes; now your site has been compromised and you are acting as a travel agent you want to make sure your pages are as secure as possible and a Verisign logo will help customers trust in entering data into your site.
You will still need to make sure that you employ the help of someone who is knowledgeable on the CMS that you are using to make sure it is setup to the optimum not leaving easily exploited windows open, so to speak.

Most compromises of that type I've seen have been down to a flaw in either the CMS or the way it was set up (usually permissions). This type of breech is far more common that cracked passwords, servers being compromised etc. They can be annoying to track down, but are usually more easily fixed.

Thanks Matt. I take your point.
We've added a number of security measures to the CMS but it looks like we havent' successfully added enough.
Your suggestion to search the platform specific communities is really useful.
Cheers.

Just adding an SSL isn't going to help if you are having the sort of problems that you mention.
Your core issue is most likely to be with your CMS. If that is the case then you are probably best finding someone who specialises in that CMS (or generally in coldfusion) who can find the source of the problem and lock it down.
If you are using an off the shelf CMS make sure that it is up to date and fully patched. Check the platform specific communities for people having similar issues and see whether they have successfully prevented the problem recurring.
Good luck. You might just find that there is an insecure upload script or something and once you find that the problems will just end.

Hi Matt, thanks for replying.
I have looked at Verisign but wonder if it's comprehensive enough. (If there is such a service).
I wonder if Verisign's service would flag up or better still prevent something like my robot.txt file being altered by a malicious script?
Or whether the malicious script would not have been able to access my site if I was with Verisign?

Have you considered verisign - http://www.verisign.com/ and one of their SSL solutions, with extras such as
http://www.symantec.com/verisign/ssl-certificates/secure-site-pro-ev?inid=vrsn_symc_ssl_SSPEV

How do you check if a website has a link network (From the same C Class)
Hello Mozzers, I'm conducting a link audit and I see a red flag for one of my guest blogs i did in 2012. let's say the IP of the website was 62.658.62.9 Little did I know that the blogging website is a link network with the same content on each IP via it's specific C class: 62.658.62.9 62.658.62.10 62.658.62.11 ETC... How does one find a website to blog on and check to see if they have a blog network or better yet, see if there is a similar distinction of duplicate sites based on its C-class?

Competitor website, how come they get away with it?
Hi we have been looking at competitors websites do see how we can improve, this website jumped out at me straight away as spammy gateway pages where 3 words was the only difference on all of the pages. Why does google give them so much weight still and rank them so highly? I thought this is what G was trying to avoid? Am I missing something here in terms of great SEO opportunity? A checked for noindex or canonical and I cannot see any. Love to hear some feedback. Cheers

My Website Just Got Penalized
I had a website that recently got penalized. The pagerank dropped to zero on the homepage and moved to page 200 on google. I checked manual actions on my site in web mastertools and it says that no webspam is found. I am curious to find out why my website would drop. I had a a network of 5 blogs that I was linking to the site that also lost page rank but theres is N/A now. I am thinking thats where the trouble started because i did not use no follow. Question 1 My question is if I remove all the links to the other site or make them no follow will the penalty lift. I am thinking that the penalty is an automated on and not a manual one. Does any one have experience with automated penalties? Did they lift after you fixed the issues. Did you regain most of your original rankings? Question 2 What happens to all my blogs. I spent all lot of money on have posts written for it. Can any of the content be salvaged. I have over 1000 pages written on 5 different blogs. I can send you a list of the urls so you can see what I am talking about.

Best method to target similar keywords??
Hi Guys, We have client that wants to target 3 similar terms (used, secondhand and pre-owned) variations. We have been having a discussion about the different methods to try but can't make a decision on the best route. The target page has a list of pre-owned products so whichever route was take these products still need to be visible without creating duplicate content issues.... 1 - Go all in on one page do our best at optimising a single page for all 3. - i don't like this route.
White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | Kal-SEO
2 - Stick with the current pre-owned url and create a url for used and secondhand with a 301 redirect back to the pre-owned url.
3 - Create three individual pages aimed at a keyword individually, keep the pre-owned as the original and add canonical links to used and secondhand I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Thanks in advanced0 -
Title Tag - Best Practices
I'm pretty new to seo but think I'm starting to get a decent grasp on it. One thing I'm really struggling with is how to organize the meta title tags on my website. I work in real estate and I'm noticing a lot of my local competitors that are ranking for the top keywords seem to using that particular keyword on every title tag within their website. An example would be www.paranych.com. Many of his internal pages have the word "Edmonton Real Estate" in the meta title tag, yet his home page is the page that is ranking for that particular keyword. It doesn't seem logical to have every one of my pages featuring the same keyword, but there are many examples within my industry of this working. Is the best practice with meta title tags to have your keyword on every title tag of your site or just the home page? Thx, Barry
