The two results you're referring to, the ones with people's names and photos next to them, are blog posts where people have used the rel=author markup to link their blog to their Google+ profile. That can influence rankings. I don't think anyone is sure how much influence we're talking about; part of the problem is that the people adopting this new markup are probably already doing good basic SEO stuff, so correlation and causation can get mixed up. In any case, it's likely that this author markup will become more influential in the future, so adopting it now is a no-brainer.

well i checked the ranking of the website based on the keyboard. And it seems that with the rank checker, those websites still appear in the same order. So for the keyword best web hosting, socal media is the same?

It's a social signal - and social signals do play a role in imporved rankings.
More then that Google+ plays a big role in personalized rankings - based on your circles and your friend's circles. So in other words if you have a G+ account with a lot of followers (real ones of course) they will see top rankings for the pages that you've plus one or shared. The circles of the ones that have you in their circles will also see top results for those - it's personalized. I will not see the same serrps as you if we are both loged in in our G+ account. The game is different now - very different.

Redirect 'keyword-url' to improve ranking?
I was wondering if a good url, with a keyword in it, can help you improve the position of that certain keyword by redirecting that url to your website. To make it clear: We run the website www.terello.nl, and have the possibility to let the url www.iphonereparatie.nl (translation: iphonerepair) redirect to our website. Would this help us to rank for the keyword 'iPhone reparatie'? I hope that I made myself clear this way:) Otherwise i'm more than happy to clearify myself!

Rel="canonical" again
Hello everyone, I should rel="canonical" my 2 languages website /en urls to the original version without /en. Can I do this from the header.php? Should I rel="canonical" each /en page (eg. en/contatti, en/pagina) separately or can I do all from the general before the website title? Thanks if someone can help.

What is the recommended or "best practice" Permalink Structure?
I have always been under the impression that by connecting pages to their parent pages as described in a.) below is best practice and makes sense to me. a.) yoursite.com/category/sub-category/product/ b.) yoursite.com/product But then i also understand the importance in terms of link juice being spread out across so many sub pages, and by using Example b.) you keep the link juice in tact. Your thoughts on this? Greg

One hosting plan for multiple websites?
I use one Godaddy shared Linux hosting account for 4 separate websites. In Google Webamster Tools, specifally "Sitr Errors," I noticed that inner pages from another site are being listed as a broken link in the original unique-now-shared site. I checked and the files are not mi-installed. My question is, should each of the four sites have a unique hosting plan and/or static IP? Thanks, Eric

.COM vs .CA rankings - .CA ranks on Google.com
Hi SEOMOZers, We have a fairly large retail client with both .COM and .CA domains. Â Each of the sites are almost identical in design and, in most cases, content (these would be product pages). Â The .US site has been live for nearly 2.5 years while the Canadian probably over a year younger or so. Â Both sites are hosted in the US. What we're starting to see as of the last few months are searches that used to rank .COM product pages now rank the Canadian page above the US page on Google.com. Â We've checked Webmaster Tools for each site and they target the appropriate country. Â With nearly all examples we've seen, we haven't noticed any more links pointing to the Canadian page, and where this is becoming a widespread occurence we're not convinced it's a linking issue. My question is why Google might see both versions but rank the Canadian page above the US page on Google.com for a search being performed in the US? Â Does anyone have any ideas on why this may be happening?
