Moving Old Site to New
-
Dear SEO Gurus,
I have been working on #2 site for a couple of months and I think it is a good idea to redirect #1 (old site) to #2 (new site) below, yes? What is the most effective way of doing this? Do I have to 301 Redirect one page from the old site to a relevant page on the new site and do this for every page.... or can I do a 301 redirect for the whole old site to the new site?
Thank you for your time in advance for helping me out!
Sheryl

You should also inform Google of your change of address via Google Webmaster Tools.

You can use this script, it will redirect all pages on the old domain to a new page in the new domain. this works is you are going to keep the same site structure and not change URLs. If you do change URLs then i would suggest to 301 each old page to a new corresponding page on The new domain.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com [nc]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.olddomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
Redirect 301 / http://www.newdomain.com/

You really should redirect every page to a page thats similar that way you dont lose any existing rankings

Old domain to new domain
Hi, A website on server A is no longer required. The owner has redirected some URLS of this website (via plugin) to his new website on server B -but not all URLS. So when I use COMMAND site:website A , I see a mixture of redirected URLS and not redirected URLS.Therefore two websites are still being indexed in some form and causing duplication. However, weirdly when I crawl with Screaming Frog I only see one URL which is 301 redirected to the new website. I would have thought I'd see lots of URLs which hadn't been redirected. How come it is different to using the site:command? Anyway, how do I move to the new website completely without the old one being indexed anymore. I thought I knew this but have read so many blogs I've confused myself! Should I: Redirect all URLS via the HTACESS file on old website on server A? There are lots of pages indexed so a lot of URLs. What if I miss some? or Point the old domain via DNS to server B and do the redirects in website B HTaccess file? This seems more sensible but does this method still retain the website rankings? Thanks for any help

How Often is Site Crawled
Good morning- I saw some errors in my first crawl and immediately removed the pages from my website. I then re-created my XML sitemap and uploaded to Google. The question I have is will the site be crawled to recognize the changes in the next day or so? The pages were just placed on the site as test pages and never removed. The initial crawl that notified me it was done found the errors and were removed. Thanks for your help. Peter

Moving forum to subfolder
Hi, we're thinking of moving our very well established forum to a subfolder on our main domain. I have read that this would be much better for seo reasons/domain authority rather than using a sub domain. Is this correct? Our forum has 15,000 users and gets roughly over 502,087 impressions from 101,147 visits a month. Thanks, James

Site Architecture Trade Off
Hi All I'm looking for some feedback regarding a site architecture issue I'm having with a client. They are about to enter a re-design and as such we're restructuring the site URLs and amending/ adding pages. At the moment they have ranked well off the back of original PPC landing pages that were added onto the site, such as www.company.com/service1, www.company.com/service2, etc The developer, from a developer point of view wished to create a logical site architecture with multiple levels of directories etc. I've suggested this probably isn't the best way to go, especially as the site isn't that large (200-300 pages) and that the key pages we're looking to rank should be as high up the architecture as we can make them, and that this amendment could hurt their current high rankings. It looks like the trade off may be that the client is willing to let some pages be restructured so for example, www.company.com/category/sub-category/service would be www.company.com/service. However, although from a page basis this might be a solution, is there a drawback to having this in place for only a few pages rather than sitewide? I'm just wondering if these pages might stick out like a sore thumb to Google.

Moving Site with #1 Ranking to New Domain
I want to move a site of mine that ranks #1 for many keywords to a new domain name. I have already redirected many smaller less important sites to the new domain, but have held off on my most popular site. If I redirect the entire site with a 301 redirect, what can I expect with my number one ranking, particular for coveted search terms..thanks for the input.
