How to promote good content?
-
Our team just finished a massive piece of content.. very similar to the SEOmoz Begginer's Guide to SEO, but for the salon/aesthetics industry.
We have a beautifully designed 10 Chapter, 50-page PDF which will require an email form submission to download. Each chapter is optimized for specific phrases, and will be separate HTML pages that are publicly available... very much like how this is setup:
http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo
My question is, what's the best way to promote this thing? Any specific examples would be ideal.
I think blogger outreach would likely be the best approach, but is there any specific way that I should be doing this?.. Again a specific start-to-finish example is what I'm looking for here. (I've read almost every outreach post on moz, so no need to reference them)
Anyone care to rattle off a list of ideas with accompanying examples? (even if they seem like no-brainers.. I'm all ears)

I think you have a PDF and all you want to do is to promote the website within the targeted audience and get down downloads for the ebook. More downloads means more email subscriptions and this you will use further for promotional emails.
To be honest, If I will be at your place i would have plan the promotion even before the content, but now when you have done this here is the recommended action plan you can follow!
Decide Clear goals:
This will help you identify that your overall promotional plan is getting any success or not. Try to make few clear, measurable goals from the promotional plan. With the ebook you should consider the following goals as important
- Specific number of email subscription.
- Specific number of links you will get on an ebook
- How much quality traffic i should receive
- Specific number of leads for my business.
- Number of tiwtter followers should increase
- Number of facebook followers should increase to a certain extent.
Once the goals are decided now it’s a time for a promotional plan and to achieve each part of the goal you should promote accordingly. Like for example for Facebook and twitter you can invite the people and pass them a book upon a tweet or a facebook like...
Blogger Outreach is also a good idea, you can also try Press Release... as this is a guide, contacting institutes and schools that offer related course can also be of great help...
This is a creative game to think, scale under your budget and do it...

It's an information resource that was built with the intention of being of value to prospective salon owners. (similar to how the seomoz guide is of value to prospective SEO's). The reader will likely not be an immediate customer, but may remember us down the road when they are ready to purchase our products. (similar to readers of seomoz guide).

It will be hosted on the site we sell our salon-related products from. The goal is to use it as link-bait. Links are top priority.. traffic is just a bonus.

ATMOS,
From what you have written, this is what I hear: You have content that is PDF that is accessible as HTML also, you want specific how to examples from start to finish, you desire no references to prior info on moz, and again, a specific start-to-finish example is what you are looking for.
From everything you say here, it is still a bit difficult to discern what you want to accomplish with the content. Is the content a teaching guide for the aesthetic/salon industry and you want it to as many students as possible? You want it in the hands of owners of salons/spas? You want to use it to get traffic to another site that it resides on?
I believe without that info, it is difficult to provide any actionable assistance.
Hope that will help clarify and provide you some guidance.
Robert

How to Handle Annual Content - 2018-2019
Hello! I was wondering how other SEOs handles their annual content. We do well with ranking for our industry keywords with the year in the content. We have annual changes to publish and talk about each year. What do you do with the previous years content? Leave it, 301 redirect it or just revamp the same content so it updates to the current year?

Identifying Duplicate Content
Hi looking for tools (beside Copyscape or Grammarly) which can scan a list of URLs (e.g. 100 pages) and find duplicate content quite quickly. Specifically, small batches of duplicate content, see attached image as an example. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers. 5v591k.jpg

Would you recommend content within Javascript links?
We are an ecommerce site and I have noticed sites like this - workplace-products.co.uk/premises/canteen-furniture.html with hidden content (click on the details link under the canteen image) My question is would this content be as good as content that is placed normally within the body of a website? Because content I place on our pages is more for SE rankings than it is for visitors. Good to get your thoughts Thank you Jon

Penalized for Duplicate Page Content?
I have some high priority notices regarding duplicate page content on my website www.3000doorhangers.com Most of the pages listed here are on our sample pages: http://www.3000doorhangers.com/home/door-hanger-pricing/door-hanger-design-samples/ On the left side of our page you can go through the different categories. Most of the category pages have similar text. We mainly just changed the industry on each page. Is this something that google would penalize us for? Should I go through all the pages and use completely unique text for each page? Any suggestions would be helpful Thanks! Andrea

What is Best Way to Scale RCS Content?
SEO has really moved away from the nitty gritty analysis of backlinking factors, link wheels, and the like and has shifted to a more holistic marketing approach. That approach is best described around MOZ as “Real Company S#it”. RCS is a great way to think about what we really do because it is so much more than just SEO or just Social Media. However, our clients and business owners do want to see results and want it quantified in some way. The way most of our clients understand SEO is by ranking high on specific terms or online avenues they have a better possibility of generating traffic/sales/revenue. They understand this more from the light of traditional marketing, where you pay for a TV ad and then measure to see how much revenue that ad generated. In the light of RCS and the need to target a large number of keywords for a given client, how do most PROs handle this situation; where you have a large number of keywords to target but with RCS? Many I’ve asked tend to use the traditional approach of creating a single content piece that is geared towards a given target keyword. However, that approach can get daunting if you have say 25 keywords that a small business wants to target. In this case is not really a case of scaling down the client expectations? What if the client wants all of the keywords and has the budget? Do you just ramp your RCS content creation efforts? It seems that you can do overkill and quickly run out of RCS content to produce.

Penalised for duplicate content, time to fix?
Ok, I accept this one is my fault but wondering on time scales to fix... I have a website and I put an affiliate store on it, using merchant datafeeds in a bid to get revenue from the site. This was all good, however, I forgot to put noindex on the datafeed/duplicate content pages and over a period of a couple of weeks the traffic to the site died. I have since nofollowed or removed the products but some 3 months later my site still will not rank for the keywords it was ranking for previously. It will not even rank if I type in the sites' name (bright tights). I have searched for the name using bright tights, "bright tights" and brighttights but none of them return the site anywhere. I am guessing that I have been hit with a drop x place penalty by Google for the duplicate content. What is the easiest way around this? I have no warning about bad links or the such. Is it worth battling on trying to get the domain back or should I write off the domain, buy a new one and start again but minus the duplicate content? The goal of having the duplicate content store on the site was to be able to rank the category pages in the store which had unique content on so there were no problems with that which I could foresee. Like Amazon et al, the categories would have lists of products (amongst other content) and you would click through to the individual product description - the duplicate page. Thanks for reading

Promoting linkbait
Hey Guys Just wanted to get some friendly feedback on ways that you like to promote linkbait. Personally, I like to: a) develop the companies main social media channels (twitter and facebook) b) develop accounts on digg and reddit etc c) email journalists and blog owners who appear to be part of my clients 'linkerati' Has anyone got any interesting approaches or strategies for getting the viral ball rolling?
