Are there site i should be telling we have new content (yet to publish any but close to). As it's a wordpress blog are there any plugins that do this automatically?

No problem Craig.
Well, if you do need some help with your social, I can help you there.
Send me a private message if you want some more info on what we offer.

Thanks Matthew, that's a real help. Lots more to look at and as you say social is the way forwards. Its bookmarked here, we just need to set some time aside to get cracking with it.

Hi Craig,
I have done this in the past and found that it used to work fairly well to build up links. Since the Penguin and Panda updates earlier this year, it has become significantly more risky.
I find that the best way to get your blog out there is through social means. Build up a good network within the likes of Google+, Twitter, Facebook, etc and engage regularly with your followers. This way, once you write a new blog post, you can then feed through a link to your following and this can be a good way of building some links.
Also, submitting your blog to social bookmarking websites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Inbound.org can be another way to get a bit of traffic and a few links coming your way. Probably the most important part of encouraging link building to your blog is actually preparing it to be shared. Look into Open Graph code (you can use a WordPress plugin that does this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-facebook-open-graph-protocol/) and ensure that your posts are social firendly. Also, have 'Like', 'Tweet', etc buttons on the page as this is proving to be a more and more significant factor toward search engine rankings.
Moving back to your original point, I submit our blog to Technorati and Blogwogo but that is it really. We have an RSS feed set up which can help as well. All in all though (and other can correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think that just submitting your blog to a load of directories will do much good.
Its all about the social!
Hope this helps
Matt.

New blog post URLs due to WordPress permalink structure changes. Any SEO repercussions?
A client site had the follwing URLs for all blog posts: www.example.com/health-news/sample-post www.example.com/health-news is the top level page for the blog section. While making some theme changes during Google mobilegeddon, the permalink structure got changed to www.example.com/sample-post ("health-news" got dropped from all blog post URLs). Google has indexed the updated post structure and older URLs are getting redirected (if entered directly in the browser) to the new ones; it appears that WordPress takes care of that automatically as no 301 redirects were entered manually. It seems that there hasn't been any loss of rankings (however not 100% sure as the site ranks for well over 100 terms). Do you suggest changing the structure back to the old one? Two reasons that I see are preserving any link juice from domains linking to old URLs and ensuring no future/current loss of rankings.

Client rebranded with a new website but can't migrate now defunct franchise website to new website.
Hi everyone, My client is a chain of franchised restaurants with a local domain website named after the franchise. The franchise exited the market while the client stayed and built its own brand with a separate website. The franchise website (which is extremely popular) will be shut down soon but the client will not be able to redirect the franchise website to the new website for legal reasons. What can I do to ensure that we start ranking immediately for the franchise keyphrase as soon as the franchise website is shutdown. We currently have the new website and access to the old website (which we can't redirect) Thanks, T

How to jumpstart the new parent company site?
A client operates four well known brands inside the industry, and each website has a relatively (for the industry) high amount of Domain authority across these four sites. They just formed a group of these four brands and launched a new website with no authority. What steps would you take to instantly grow the authority of the new site?

301 redirects and Blogger - moving blog
Is there any way to add 301 redirects to individual posts on a blogger-hosted blog? We're getting ready to finally move our blog off of Blogger and onto our own webserver. We're probably going to use BlogEngine.net to run it. right now the blog is located at blog.MySite.com. We're probably going to move it to MySite.com/Blog. We don't have any really popular posts and we only really get ~10 visits a day on about 70 posts. Just trying to figure out the best way to handle this without inadvertently shooting myself in the foot.

Multiple blogs for seo
I have signed up for some rather expensive lawyer directories that have very high domain PR, 's of 6 or 7 . Some of these allow you to make blog posts or articles on their site which should be good for SEO because of the high domain PR. I understand that if I do a lot of posts on one of these blogs with links back to my site, I should rapidly reach the point of diminishing returns because they are all coming from the same domain. Therefore, I plan to mix up my blo posts betwee several of these sites and also rewrite them and post them on my own site's blog. My question is this, if I post on any of these sites and I link back to internal pages of my site, and not to the home page, does this offset the "diminishing returns" factor? Paul
