Organic Traffic Dropping. 404s found. Is this it?

My organic traffic has dropped 20% in the past month. I noticed some major 404 errors today on a very commonly clicked link on our website.
I had the developers fix the error today, but then I thought I'd look in Google Webmaster Tools. That's when I saw the attached picture.
2454 404 errors were found. We only have 1500 pages in the entire Google index.
Could this massive amount of 404 errors attribute to this drop in organic traffic?

Agreed. You said have more 404s than you have pages indexed, that is not good even if your ranks did not drop. That would mean that while you are being found in the SERPs you are now showing 404s to users. It is the equivalent of a bar running out of beer during Octoberfest. Also those thirsty polka dancers with nothing to sell them to drink.

It's certainly possible, if the 404's messed up link juice flow within your site, or caused pages to not get indexed, or something like that.

Big drop in organic traffic after new site launched
Hi There, I have had a drop of around 40% in site traffic since we migrated our site from Magento to Woocommerce. The products were migrated across and kept the same title tags, meta descriptions, copy etc... I set up 301's on the top 100 landing pages and submitted a new site map using Google Web Master Tools. It looked like the traffic was coming back to where it was but the gap has widened again. Can anyone advise me on what I may have missed or how to go about diagnosing the problem and fixing it

Exclude local host traffic from google analytics
I'm getting a lot of local host referral traffic from an unknown source.I want to get rid of this from my google analytics reports. I've tried this filter - but the traffic still appears. Filtername = local host Filtertype= custom Exclude = filter field referral Filter pattern (.?localhost.?) Any ideas ? thanks in advance.

Traffic drops when showing post dates?
Hello. My blog is 9 years old and i just got serious with regards to earnings. I have observed that whenever i showed published date traffic drops immediately. For years i stopped showing dates. But now, i feel dates are an important factor in Rich snippets because most of competitors who are shown in rich snippets are also showing dates. So i started showing "UPDATED ON" in the Genesis theme framework. Traffic drop is the same as before. Why is traffic dropping whenever i show dates? Even when i show updated dates, wherein all articles show dates of just 1-2 years and none of them are showing how old the site is. And yes, quality is high, content is high. 404s effecting crawl rate?
We made a change to our site where we all of a sudden we are creating a large number of 404 pages. Is this effecting the crawl/indexing rate? Currently we've submitted 3.4 million pages, have over 834K indexed but have over and 330K pages not found. Since the large increase in 404s we've noticed a decrease in pages crawled per day. I found this Q & A in Webmasters (http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/05/do-404s-hurt-my-site.html) but it seems like the 404s should not have an effect. Is this article out of date? What do you think fellow Moz-ers? Is this a problem?

My blog homepage deindexed, other pages indexing, still traffic not changed.
Hello! Today when I check my blog site search on Google, I can't see my blog home page. Though all my posts and pages are still on the Google results. Today I published a test post, then it also indexed by the Google less than 3 minutes. Still I can't see any traffic changes. 10th of April (yesterday) when I perform a site search (site:mydomain.com), I saw my site on the Google search result. Today I installed the Ulitmate SEO plug-in and deactivated WordPress SEO plug-in. After a few hours I saw this issue. (I'm not saying this is the issue, I just mentioned it). No manual spam actions found - still my site does not rank
I noticed it on the 1st of October 2012 - that all my rankings disappeared - i filed a reconsideration request w google and i got this - No manual spam actions found. I have no idea why my site would have been subject to an algo change which made my rankings completely go away - i have not used spam, not used any kind of linkbuilding. Targeting US search traffic
Hello, I've noticed the site I'm working on gets about 30-40% of Google organic search traffic from the US and the rest comes from around the world. All the site's customers are in the US and so the thought is to focus getting traffic more from the US. I know google webmaster tools has a geo targeting mechanism for the site in question but what I don't want to do is turn that on and then traffic from non-US sources goes away; I suppose that's not so bad if traffic from the US bumps up accordingly. Do you have any experience on this area? thanks -Mike
