Read More & SEO
-
I have just had my site redesigned. The site was designed with only important facts bullets at the top of the page and all other information is below in the read more section that expands when clicked.
I am wondering if I need to have this information in the read more section visible to the customer or if having the majority of the text in the read more is OK? and how it will effect rankings having it this way?
I have had spots #1 &2 on Google for my keywords- until the site was redesigned...wondering if this was part of the reason.
I have moved some of the text up to be visible on some of the pages - but it makes the site look cramped - and competes with the ease of use the site design
Any insight on this is appreciated.

There are no guarantees, as you know. I would be weary of that strategy long term as I mentioned. If it doesn't raise a flag with Google now, it could someday.

Thanks for the reply-
I should have been a little clearer on this- I did lose rankings but mostly had to do with the switch to the new site not having redirects done correctly. the company that did the redesign dropped the www from the name and a huge list of things. I contacted and SEO company (im a newbie) and they were able to fix most of the errors in that respect.
They had mentioned to me that I had too much hidden text (under read more buttons) And that I should move this text to be visible, i did this for most of the pages but the site was not designed like this so now I to have the whole site redesigned to be able to have that area visible. I understand that I need visible relevant text- I just need to find that middle ground where I have enough text yet the site still looks clean.
You did answer the question- just wanted to make sure I understand you correctly... that in having text in a read more area that as long as Google is recognizing it (it is) that is should not effect the site in getting our lost rankings back??

I have seen this implemented many times. It seems as though as long as you make it clear to the user that there is more text for them to interact with, that you may be ok. I can't say I've seen anyone be directly penalized for it.
With that said, I am not the biggest fan of it - and I haven't found a reason to need to use it yet.
Are you saying you lost rankings? With a redesign I would examine the old code compared to the new code. I would check the page speed. I would examine how the text was placed before to how it is now.
Use the "fetch as googlegbot" option in webmaster tools to make sure they are accessing all text. Do some exact phrase match queries to make sure they are relating that text to your site in search. There may be other things in the redesign that could impact your rankings, but ultimately how likely is a user to expand that text? Would you? If Google is sophisticated enough to recognize that (likely) and notices that no one is interacting with that text - then they may not use it in relevancy.

SEO audit for ccTLD sites
Hi.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | SEOSanna
My customer has sites with Country code TLDs (e.g. https://sample.fr, https://sample.fi and https://sample.en) and I'm supposed to perform SEO audit for them. Is there any way to perform audit at the same time for all versions? Can I perform audit e.g. just for https://sample or do I have to run every .fr, .fi and .en separately in multiple tools I use? Thanks much in advance!0 -
URL Parameters, Forms & SEO
Hi I have some pages on the site which have a quote form, in my site crawl I see these showing as duplicate content - my webmaster says this isn't the case, but I'm not sure. Landing page - https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/high-esd-chairs Page with form - https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/high-esd-chairs?quote-form - this also somehow has a canonical on it pointing to https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/high-esd-chairs?quote-form Which neither of us have added. I'm thinking we need to get the canonical needs to be updated to https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/high-esd-chairs Is it worth doing this for all these pages or am I worrying about nothing? Becky

SEO question
Hi there! I'm the SEO manager for 5 Star Loans. I have 2 city pages running. We are running our business in 2 locations: Berkeley, CA & San Jose, CA. For those offices we've created 2 google listings with separate gmail accounts. Berkeley (http://5starloans.com/berkeley/) ranks well in Berkeley in Gmaps and it shows on first page in organic results. However the second city page San Jose (http://5starloans.com/san-jose/) doesn't show in the Gmaps local pack results and also doesn't rank well in organic results. Both of them have authentic backlinks and reviews. It has been a year already and it's high time we knew the problem 🙂 any comment would be helpful. thanks a lot

Is CloudFlare bad for SEO?
I have been hit by DDoS attacks lately...not on a huge scale, but probably done by some "script kiddies" or competitors of mine. Still, I need to take some action in order to protect my server and my site against all of this spam traffic that is being sent to it. In the process of researching the tools available for defending a website from a DDoS attack, I came across the service offered by CloudFlare.com. According to the CloudFlare website, they protect your site against a DDoS attack by showing users/visitors they find suspicious an interstitial that asks them if they are a real user or a bot...this interstitial contains a Captcha that suspicious users are asked to enter in order to visit the site. I'm just wondering what kind of an effect such an interstitial could have on my Google rankings...I can imagine that such a thing could add to increased click-backs to the SERPs and, if Google detects this, to lower rankings. Has anyone had experience with the DDoS protection services offered by CloudFlare, who can say a word or two regarding any effects this may have on SEO? Thanks

Where Does Blogging Fit Into SEO
I read an article yesterday that said blogging comes under the heading of social media, which is at the top of the so called SEO pyramid. I have taken this to mean less time should be spent in social media compared to other areas of SEO. Yet content creation was at the bottom of the pyramid (more time allocation here). Isn't blogging part of content creation? I would have thought there is a limit to what can be done for service/product & landing pages. Whereas blogs are a great way to produce more unique content for a website. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks - Christina

# element above Menu - Is there any SEO Value to it
Is there any Value to having the H1 element above the MENU in a Typical Application ? My intention is to tell the "Bot" that the H1 element is more important than the Menu Items . Are there any examples of such sites . The closest that I have seen is (NOT MY SITES) http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/ and http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/cheap-flights/from-dallas-texas/1531/?airport_code=dfw&depsub=1&c2calert=0&deal_alert=0&from_hp=true Here they (second link) they have H1 above the Bread Crumb ( they dont have any menu though).
