Step by step article on migrating domain for personal blog
-
Greetings!
I have been running my personal blog on first-lastname with a .me extension and I finally managed to acquire first-lastname.com!!!
Now I would like to migrate my Wordpress implementation to the new URL.
It will exactly the same.
Where could I find a detailed step by step on exactly how to do this?
Appreciate your time
Alex

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your support.
I checked both of those resources, they make sense.
I guess what I'm looking for is really a combination of both - a nice, automated way to migrate wordpress installations whilst maintaining all required 301's. Â I imagine by now there's a plugin of some sort!
These resources seem to be good:
http://yoast.com/move-wordpress-blog-domain-10-steps/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-301-redirects/
Let me know if those seem to be on the wrong track...
Cheers,
A

Have a look at this Alex -Â http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
You will then need to create 301 redirects from your old domain to your new one - linking your old pages to the their new locations to pass 90-99% of link juice you have gained previously and helping build your new sites authority.

I have a sub domain that has live content on it but the root domain redirects to another URL. I know this is not great but what are the implications?
I have a subdomain that is populated and has content. Â The root domain that the sub lives on redirects to an entirely different URL. Â I am trying to make a case as to why this isn't great besides the fact that it is just weird user experiences. Â What are the SEO implications etc. Â Would any equity that gets built up on the subdomain get passed along in the redirect? Â Or will there be indexation issues with Google? Cheers, Mark

SEO for sub domains
I've recently started to work on a website that has been previously targeting sub domain pages on its site for its SEO and has some ok rankings. To better explain, let me give an example...A site is called domainname.com. And has subdomains that they are targeted for seo (i.e. pageone.domainname.com, pagetwo.domainname.com, pagethree.domianname.com). The site is going through a site re-development and can reorganise its pages to another URL. What would be best way to approach this situation for SEO? Ideally, I'm tempted to recommend that new targeted pages be created - domainname.com/pageone, domainname.com/pagetwo, domainname.com/pagethree, etc - and to perform a 301 redirect from the old pages. Does a subdomain page structure (e.g. pageone.domainname.com) have any negative effects on SEO? Also, is there a good way to track rankings? I find that a lot of rank checkers don't pick up subdomains. Any tips on the best approach to take here would be appreciated. Hope I've made sense!

Does a sub-domain benefit a domain...
I have seen some mixed comment as the whether a sub-domain would benefit from the authority built up by its domain... but does a domain benefit from a sub-domain?

New domain's Sitemap.xml file loaded to old domain - how does this effect SEO?
I have a client who recently changed their domain when they redesigned their site. The client wanted the old site to remain live for existing customers with links to the new domain. I guess as a workaround, the developer loaded the new domain's sitemap.xml file to the old domain. What SEO ramifications would this have if any on the primary (new) domain?

Site dropped after article submissions
I have a site about back pain. Â The name is lower back pain relief. Â It has a lot of content on how to treat back pain with natural remedies. I paid for botw.org and yahoo directories as well as submissions from submit edge. Â My site was doing well within a few months. Â I was floating around at the bottom of page two for "lower back pain relief" and lower back pain. I found out about Unique article wizard. Â I started using that to write and submit articles. Â Now, my website is not ranking anywhere. I submitted a request for reconsideration to Google. Â They said no manual action had been taken. The question: How long does this penalty last? Is that website toast now? I think it was penalized for using the anchor text too much or adding too many links at once. Â It has been penalized for about 6 weeks now.

Domain tld question
Hi all, I have a question regarding the ranking of exact match tld which is co.uk Currently I have a .com domain with PR of 3 and the problem is that it have one word in front of my desired keyword, so it's not exact match. I have managed to buy an exact match but it's co.uk The questions are: Will a co.uk rank better for UK than .com domain I am reading at SEOMOZ that exact match domain value is getting lower, so is it worth to redirect my current .com domain to co.uk just to get rid of that one word and start all over again with exact match. Thanks

Delete old site but redirect domain to a new domain and site
I just have a quick query and I have a feeling about what the answer is so just wanted to see what you guys thought... Basically I am working on a client site. This client has a few other websites that are divisions of their company. However these divisions/websites are no longer used. They are wanting to delete the websites but redirect the domains to their name main website. They believe this will pass on SEO benefits as these old division sites are old and have a good PR and history. I'm unsure for DEFINITE, which way is correct?
