Should I move our blog internal....
-
I wanted to also ask the wider moz community this question.
Our blogs are currently run on blogger/wordpress using a subdomain strategy - blog.website.com and has now gained a home page PR3. It's been running for 2-3 years.
This runs contrary to best practice of website.com/blog.
I'm now considering making the blog internal but want to get your opinion as the longer I leave it, the bigger a decision it will be....
Do the pro's of making the blog internal outweigh the cons of doing so ?
Pro's
- Blog benefits from root domain
- Fresh content on the site that people can interact with
- Root domain benefits from links the content gains
- Easier to analyse user activity
Con's
- Loss of Page Rank
- Effort to 301 all URL's and content
- CMS altered to allow creation of blog content
-
This is a decision you only face at blog creation time, once you have strated your blog and it is established, I don't see anything that should push you to change unless it is a "business reason"
A subdomain is arguably not the best practice, but it is not a bad one either

Move to new domain using Canonical Tag
At the moment, I am moving from olddomain.com (niche site) to the newdomain.com (multi-niche site). Due to some reasons, I do not want to use 301 right now and planning to use the canonical pointing to the new domain instead. Would Google rank the new site instead of the old site? From what I have learnt, the canonical tag lets Google know that which is the main source of the contents. Thank you very much!

Lazy Loading of Blog Posts and Crawl Depths
Hi Moz Fans, We are looking at our blog and improving the content as much as we can for SEO purposes, but we have hit a bit of a blank in terms of lazy loading implications and issues with crawl depths. We introduced lazy loading onto the blog home page to increase site speed initially and it works well with infinite scroll, but we were wondering whether this would cause any issues regarding SEO. A lot of the resources online seem to be conflicting and some are very outdated, so some clarification on what is best in terms of lazy loading and crawl depths for blogs, would be fantastic! I hope someone can help and give us some up to date insights - If you need anymore information, I'll reply ASAP

Are all duplicate content issues bad? (Blog article Tags)
If so how bad? We use tags on our blog and this causes duplicate content issues. We don't use wordpress but with such a highly used cms having the same issue it seems quite plausible that Google would be smart enough to deal with duplicate content issues caused by blog article tags and not penalise at all. Here it has been discussed and I'm ready to remove tags from our blog articles or monitor them closely to see how it effects our rankings. Before I do, can you give me some advice around this? Thanks,

Setting up a Blog - Guest Authors
I am planning on setting up a blog in the next couple months. We would like to have 10 different categories that professionals can write about and submit articles. Any suggestions on which blogging software to put on the site. So far I have heard of WordPress and Joomla. (Not sure which is the best version) We want it to maybe have the bloggers logo or pictures, date, etc. None of us have had any experience with this so we needed some input. I have been reading everywhere that blogging is huge for SEO and so I just wanted to improve ours plus maybe drive more traffic with a high level blog for professionals. Any ideas or even books that I should go purchase to study up. When we do this it would be great to get it set up properly from the get go. 🙂 Boo

Am I Stuffing Internal Anchor Text?
We've got about 1,700 products and 6,600 pages on our site. I recently finished up adding similar product links and popular category links to our product and category pages in an effort to juice up the pages that sell and make us money. I also added a category html sitemap in the footer. A couple of the targeted category rankings are moving down. Am I possible accruing a penalty for overusing anchor text? Is this internal linking strategy poor form? Thanks.

Do you use your own Blog networks?
Do you use a network of sites you own for links to your clients in your seo efforts? I see so many seo companies doing this from such junk sites with all their clients in the blog roll, it seems totally crazy. It seems this stuff works do any of you do this if so how do you keep it white hat?
