Solution to "Exact Match Domain" issue?
-
My website bayjobs.com has done well for years, then virtually disappeared from google on September 28, which is the day of the emd (exact match domain) penalty. Meanwhile, similar sites like bajobs.com and bayareajobfinder.com have fared just fine for keywords "bay area jobs". I was previously around #5 for those keywords, but now not even in top 200. Does anyone have any solution for this?
Thanks for any insight!

Shew, this one was hard to pull apart.
I looked at your site VERY briefly then dug in. I should've looked harder at first.
-
First I did a link profile - nope, you looked like everyone else. There's no consistency here so I think a bit of the higher DA links wouldn't hurt you but that's not the problem.
-
Then I went to see if it was keywords - I tested these domains against you on specific jobs and no, they usually outrank you so you're right, there's a problem. It isn't that one keyword.
-
I checked your actual page. Oh.
**The answer seems to be your registration wall. **
You have a registration wall up here: http://www.bayjobs.com/administrative-jobs/listings-214475.html
The same text is virtually 100% duplicated on every logged out result. Everything from "Job search Login" to "San Francisco Bay Area Jobs" is duplicated. Then, you have the same links on every page, the same internal link to your own site, etc.
You are also creating a big problem on anchor text. You have "Office Support / Administrator" linked to the registration wall, Site Services Coordinator linked to the registration wall, etc.
How to fix it
I think you don't have FCF (first click free) going on here. I would try that.

That should help... I think that's the problem, though. The registration wall seems to close off access, Google can't see it, they see anchor text with all your job titles leading to one repetitive page that has exact anchor text to your own site and they don't see much related to the actual anchor text of the job title, no description, no job there, etc. I think the problem builds on itself. Your anchor text in the registration wall page is probably why you got penalized on EMD day, although the setup itself is problematic.

How to know exactly which page links to a 404 page on my website?
Hi Moz users, Sometimes I get 404 crawl errors using Moz Pro and when my website has a few dozen pages it is hard for me to find the original page that links to a 404 page. Is there a way to find this automatically using Moz or do I have to look for it manually? I just need to find the original link and delete it to fix my 404 issue. Please let me know thank you for you help. -Marc

Report is showing 2 different domains?
Hello SEOMOZ Fam, I am trying to get a understanding on what is the best method for me to do moving forward. I am just noticing that my reports are showing data for both http://domain & http://www.domain which is what has been confusing me for this whole past month. I have just went into my control panel and redirected domains to be just http://domain....will me doing this redirect clean up my next crawl report next week or are there other steps I need to do with my domain or even my campaign? I think I chose root level for my campaign setting. Thanks so much n advance

Crawl Test taking 10+ days and still "In Progress" - normal or glitch?
I started a crawl test for my large site - WallStreetOasis.com - on June 20 and still have not received my results. It still says "Crawl in Progress" 10 days later. Does this seem odd or problematic, or is this normal?

How best to gain Followed Linking Root Domains?
Hi All, Sorry if this question has been asked before. I've had a look through the Q&A sections and I couldn't really see anyone who'd asked the question as direct as this? Basically, I'm using the SEOMoz competitive domain analysis to compare some of our domains and our competitors domains and see where we're falling down. At the minute, we seem to be only scoring around '31', whereas our two closest competitors as 32 and 33 on the overall score. This still seems pretty low to me (maybe it's not) so I'm assuming we can make some good headway. At the minute, the analysis shows that we're beating our competitors hands down with the number of links to our site, these are all relatively good quality and they haven't just been spammed out there to gain links. We are however struggling to get followed linking root domains. As I understand it, these are basically just links from domains not on the same IP that are followed? Since I've seen this, I've looked through the open site explorer and gone through all of our competitors sites to get backlinks from URL's linking to them. I've had fairly good success with this but they only seem to have gone up by 1 - 2 links. Does this only get updated once a month? In addition to this, does anyone have any tips on how to build up followed linking domains? Kind Regards

Domain Authority: Sites with lower numbers get higher ranking.
We had a question about your online tools for http://pro.seomoz.org/campaigns/30642 The Domain Authority for http://pucherinsurance.com/ is 67: Higher than most of our competitors such as bluecross.ca which has a rank of 54. We show up lower in the actual search results. An example phrase would be Visitors to Canada health Insurance. We get an A grade for onsite reports and we are working on the duplicate content and titles. We appear to be doing everything right but still rank lower than expected. Any thoughts?
