Manual Rankings or Automated? Plus and Minus?
-
Hi,
I'm new to SEOMoz and one of the reasons I joined is for the automated keyword lookup feature. I have a few questions I'm hoping people here can sort out for me:
-
Is SEOMoz is "danger" of losing the ranking tool as happened to Raven Tools?
-
I've been doing manual keyword lookups for a very long time. With the # of KW (in multiple search engines) that I now need to track, a tool like SEOMoz seems invaluable. Now I appreciate that there are differences in the exact rankings, but I've noticed that while the SEOMoz google results are very close to my manual lookups (in Chrome Incognito mode), the Bing results are pretty far off. Is this a function of Bing? Or is this the nature of the beast? I'd like to save time by automating the lookups (and of course all of the other features in the rank tool), but I want to make sure I'm accurate.
-
Are many people out there using an automated tool only?
Thank you!

Hi Titan -
I'm not an SEOMoz employee - so I can only speculate here.
From the blog post on Raven Tools - they made the comment that the reason they decided to stop offering the rank tracker is because they failed an audit for the Google Adwords API. Google gave them an ultimatum - either stop using scraped data, or lose access to the API.
From what I understand, SEOmoz was recently faced with the same problem, and they chose to drop the access to the Adwords API, instead of giving up access to the scraped data. This is understandable, since SEOMoz's tools focus exclusively on SEO - while Raven offers a a wide range of services - some SEO, some PPC, some Social Media, etc.
So, I would be surprised if SEOMoz would stop offering the rank tracker. Though I really have no inside knowledge about this at all.
I think the SEOMoz rank tracker is an internally developed tool. Raven tools, and a lot of other SEO tools in the industry used a company called Authority Labs.
Rank tracking is the only thing that they do, and from what I've seen, their data is a bit better overall, if you're just looking for rank tracking. They also do daily monitoring of keywords, which is a bit overkill from my perspective - but could be useful if you're in a very competitive niche.

How much does Domain Authority effect the keywords I can rank for?
I've been doing some keyword research and i've found a few gems. My site is currently sat at a 18 domain authority up from 12, so it's great to see the improvement. Although I was wondering, if my domain authority is sat a 18, can I compete with keywords that have a difficulty of 50-60? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Sam

Should I create additional pages for to try to rank for alternative keywords?
Hi I have my primary product page https://www.planacademy.com/primavera-p6-training/ - that ranks well for and is optimized for "primavera p6 training". However, I'd the same page to rank well "primavera p6 online course". Do I create another version of this page optimized for these different keywords? Or do I try to get the 1 page to rank for both? A bit confused here as to what to do. Thanks.

Page not ranking despite indicators showing should easily be mid-1st page?
I have many years old website selling a service. The main keyword is 47% competitive, and we used to be #1 page 2, occasionally page 1 couple years back. Domain authority is double of any of the competitors on 1st page, followed root domain links is many times that of 1st page competitors, infact against some of them almost 10 times as much, MozRank and MozTrust higher too. Infact, every metric is higher than competition. Only metric which isn't as good is Followed vs NoFollowed links metric, 95% of our links are NoFollowed, but we are still #1 in external followed links. Yet we are stuck on 4th page, and on some localizations we are not even in Top 50. This has happened slowly over time, not a overnight thing. Page we are trying to rank for gets grade A for optimizations, yet we have less significant pages ranking higher for that keyword. Further, newer pages tend to rank better than old ones. The whole site actually ranks quite low and we are not even getting search traffic for long tail keywords.

My home page doesn't rank for its brand keyword
I'm wondering why my website www.travelnasia.com home page URL does not rank in the top 50 for the brand keyword "travelnasia". Does this indicate a problem? A page linking to my site ranks at No 1. A domain listing for my site ranks No 2. A SiteJabber review of my site ranks No 3. My own privacy page ranks #4 and my Contact Us page ranks No 5. My home page is nowhere to be seen in the top 50. It does rank #1 for the qualified domain "travelnasia.com", just not for the unqualified domain. I just don't know what to make of that. My competitors all seem to rank #1 for their brands, so I'm not sure why I don't at least rank in the top 50 for mine.

Understanding the Rankings report: Visits - what timeframe?
I just setup a new site in MOZ, rankings have run on 200+ keywords for two weeks. The report shows 14 visits for the keyword "google backup". Is that 14 visits since the last crawl or 14 visits all time since I have been tracking that keyword within Moz? Thanks!

Keywords and Rank Checker Tool
Two questions about checking the rank of keywords. The easiest way to say this is by example. I have a keyword that SEOMOZ ranks on google in the 32nd position but when I look for that keyword in Google it's nowhere to be found (it's buried deep in the results pages somewhere). Where does SEOMOZ get its keyword results from? How do I non-localize my browser so I can see "global" keyword results? Is there such a thing? thanks in advance.

Rankings are changing all the time
Hi there! My client has a webpage http://www.finlotto.fi. It's a lottery in the Internet. We are trying to dominate keyword "lotto". It's a high volume keyword that has over 135 000 local searches (exact) per month. However, it seems that there aren't much competition out there. We have only one competitor - Veikkaus.fi The issue: We usually have first page ranking only for 2 days max, then we got dropped to third page. Two days later we have first page ranking again. Then we got dropped again to third page. This happens all the time. the odd thing: when we are in the first page, there are a date in the beginning of the META description. When we got dropped to third page, the date disappears. I know this has something to do with crawling. Can you give me some answers considering this issue? I'd be VERY VERY grateful 🙂 BR, Teemu Kinnunen
