Link Exchange

Hi everyone,

I just started working for a client in a new niche. After reviewing the backlink profiles of his competitors I can see that the top sites are using a ton of link exchanges. They are from really spammy sites too. The kind that will link to anyone that provides a link back.

Anyone else seeing much of this?

_Just wait for the big [upcoming] penguin update and I hope that these sites will be torched. You are not along who is seeing worthless sites ranking high in competitive terms. There are hundreds and thousands sites with spammy link profiles still ranking high. Hopefully, they will get caught by algo updates soon. _

True. But... there is not much else to support the rankings. I could not find any real quality links pointing at the site. The pages do have a fair amount of content but I don't think that in it'self would secure a #1 spot in a competitive niche. Maybe OSE is not finding the mother link that is supporting the site?

There are no social sharing buttons, no regular blogging.

How do you know that "a ton of link exchanges" are responsible for the ranks?   Just because you see 'em doesn't say that they are doing anything.
