Sitemap Dissappearance??
-
Greetings Mozzers,
Doing my standard run through Webmaster tools and I discover up to 30% of my sitemaps no longer exist.
Has anyone else experienced the recent loss of sitemaps/can suggest reasons why this may have happened?
Re-submitting all sitemaps now but just concerned this might become an on-going issue...

Hi Robert,
One possibility: A few months ago Google Webmaster Tools changed it's user interface to visually separate sitemaps submitted by you, and sitemaps submitted by others.
The default view shows only sitemaps submitted by the Google account you are currently logged into. If sitemaps were submitted by others, or under another Google account you have access to, the screen may appear blank with the following message:
"You have not submitted any sitemaps for this site."
But sitemaps may still exist if you hit the "All" tab. (See screenshot attached) Hitting this tab will reveal all sitemaps Google has on file.
This confuses a lot of webmasters, including myself, because it makes it look like the sitemap has disappeared, even though Google has a record of it and is actively crawling it.

Have not experience that lately, although I would assume it's possible just a WMT glitch.
Have you tried asking on the google forums?
All the best.

Sitemaps during a migration - which is the best way of dealing with them?
Many SEOs I know simply upload the new sitemap once the new site is launched - some keep the old site's URLs on the new sitemap (for a while) to facilitate the migration - others upload both the old and the new website together, to support the migration. Which is the best way to proceed? Thanks, Luke

Sitemap on a Subdomain
Hi, For various reasons I placed my sitemaps on a subdomain where I keep images and other large files (static.example.com). I then submitted this to Google as a separate site in Webmaster tools. Is this a problem? All of the URLs are for the actual site (www.example.com), the only issue on my end is not being able to look at it all at the same time. But I'm wondering if this would cause any problems on Google's end.

Why extreme drop in number of pages indexed via GWMT sitemaps?
Any tips on why our GWMT Sitemaps indexed pages dropped to 27% of total submitted entries (2290 pages submitted, 622 indexed)? Already checked the obvious Test Sitemap, valid URLs etc. We had typically been at 95% of submitted getting indexed.

Is there a way to keep sitemap.xml files from getting indexed?
Wow, I should know the answer to this question. Sitemap.xml files have to be accessible to the bots for indexing they can't be disallowed in robots.txt and can't block the folder at the server level. So how can you allow the bots to crawl these xml pages but have them not show up in google's index when doing a site: command search, or is that even possible? Hmmm

Google Webmaster Tools Sitemap errors for phantom urls?
Two weeks ago we changed our urls so the correct addresses are all lowercase. Everything else 301 redirects to those. We have submitted and made sure that Google has downloaded our updated sitemap several times since. Even so, Webmaster Tools is reporting 33000 + errors in our sitemap for urls that are no longer in our sitemap and haven't been for weeks. It claims to have found the errors within the last couple of days but the sitemap has been updated for a couple of weeks and has been downloaded by Google at least three times since. Here is our sitemap: http://www.aquinasandmore.com/urllist.xml Here are a couple of urls that Webmaster Tools says are in the sitemap: http://www.aquinasandmore.com/catholic-gifts/Caroline-Gerhardinger-Large-Sterling-Silver-Medal/sku/78664
