Is there anything SEMRush Guru or Enterprise level has that I can't do with SEOMoz Pro?
-
Okay fellow in-house SEOs, I need some advice please. We are considering an upgrade from SEOMoz Pro to Pro Elite. For a business our size, this is a major investment. I need some compelling reasons why we should go with this upgrade in lieu of simply adding an upgraded membership at SEMRush.
Aside from more keywords tracked and more pages crawled (We only have about 5,000 pages, so I'm not sure more pages crawled is even something we need).
Right now, it seems the only benefit to us would be the ability to track 2500 more keywords. We don't need more campaigns and we don't need more pages crawled. An extra $300/month is a lot to pay just for the sole benefit of adding more keywords.
The reason we are considering this is because we have 6-7 product lines that are all quite different from each other, different keywords, different competitors. All of these products lines are enormously competitive, so of course we want to track each (with competitors) separately so that when I build a Ranking Index (which I learned how to do beautifull thanks to this post by AJ Kohn a few days ago), that my Ranking Index is a truer picture of how we are doing for keywords related to specific product lines, against the right specific competitors. Because of the keyword limitations in SEOMoz Pro (1,000 max), we can't come close to covering everything.
Is increasing our level at SEOMoz really the best, most affordable option to do what we want to do? I realize I might get some bias here, but we are really trying to research cost-effective options, as $4,790 is a huge investment for us.
Thoughts?

Thanks Sean. This was a great suggestion. We are going to give it a go. I really appreciate it!

You can enter the competitors yourself, you set competitors for each campaign
You can not set a different competitor for each keyword, but you can have unlimited (I believe) campaigns running so you could split your keywords into categories that have the same competitors.
You also only pay for the terms you check, so if you have some long tail terms you only need to check occasionally you can add these to a separate campaign and pay only when you run it,
If you have other questions let me know,
Sean

Thanks Sean. This looks like a good possibility. I think the only deal-breaker might be that it appears that their software identifies competitors, rather than letting us define our competitors (like the way it works when setting up SEOMoz campaigns).
Is my evaluation correct? Or is it possible to define specific compeittors for each campaign?

Hi Dana
If all you need is the extra rank tracking capacity a tool like webposition.com might be a more cost effective solution, you can set up keywords to track, enter competitors for each keyword and choose what Search Engines to check, all the data can be exported and the reports can be set to run on specific days or immediately.
You will need to check the numbers and make sure it does what you need, the pricing info is on this page,
http://www.webposition.com/support/faq-frequently-asked-questions.htm#Pricing
I use it for several smaller campaigns but have not used it foe thousands of phrases.
I hope this helps
Sean

Why would SEOmoz be blocked from a domain?
Am I missing something? I'm trying to do Link Research on www.weddingcarsofhampshire.co.uk but it seems to be blocked, any ideas why that would be the case?

SEOmoz Campaign Setup: What would you do?
I've been using moz for nearly a year now. Initially when I set up our site (rac.com.au) it was as a single campaign for the rac.com.au domain. However, our business has a number of different product offerings and marketing teams (Insurance, finance, travel/tourism, automotive, security etc) - would I be better off setting each of these 'sub' brands as a campaign on their own using the 'folder' campaign setup? For example, have a campaign setup for the Insurance business (rac.com.au/insurance) folder, Finance business (rac.com.au/finance) and so forth? The advantage I see to the folder campaign setup is more specific reporting for each of the business units. Are there disadvantages to this? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Ryan

SEOMOZ Crawl Test
Guys I really have an issue that i know have but cannot see if that makes sense. Basically 3 months ago i did a site wide 301 from economyleasinguk.co.uk to www.economy-car-leasing.co.uk Every thing looks good get all the correct header responses , all canonicals work perfectly , Google webmaster tools is updated fetch as google bot shows the old site is 301 I tried the seomoz crawl test today on the old domain and got this message Oh no! Looks like the page you were trying to access is temporarily down which at first thought ok because the site was not there it wont do it on an old 301 domain, however i tried it on a domain i know has just been 301'd and i got this message The URL http://www.site1.com/ redirects to http://site2.com/. Do you want to crawl http://site2.com/ instead?

Would you like to:
Continue with www.site1.com
Continue with site2.com I really do not know what to do, its either the redirect script is missing something however its doing what it should or the server is a problem but again its doing what it should so why would SEOMOZ not be able to crawl the old URL like it example site above. Now the strange thing is Open Site Explorer does see the 301 and asks if i want to check the new URL instead Ps the redirect is done using PHP redirect which i am asking him to change to a htaccess as its now on a apache server and was wondering if this could be an issue, all pages go to correct pages as requested Thanks in Advance1 -

Google UK rankings don't seem to be accurate.
Just a quick question - I am tracking the keyword 'chemistry teaching resources' as part of a campaign and our site comes up at number 4 on a google.co.uk search for this however in the rankings report section of our account, we are ranked at number 50 for this keyword in the 'google UK' column. Does anybody know why this would be different? It is also different for a number of other keywords in the campaign. Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks
