Divs Vs Table for styled data\
-
Hello,
We're in the process of launching MultipleSclerosis.net and are a bit confused with how to present some specific information.
Looking at pages such as http://multiplesclerosis.net/symptoms/, http://multiplesclerosis.net/what-is-ms/courses-patterns/ and http://multiplesclerosis.net/treatment/prescription-nonprescription-medications/ is it better to keep this data structured as divs, and style them as tables or to keep them as tables and style them accordingly.
Though not technically "tabular" data, i'm not too sure how to handle this. The text to code ratio is quite high with the divs in the markup, which though i'm not overly worried about, it could cause some issues with the site's indexability.
Thanks I appreciate any feedback.

My opinion would be that DIV-based markup is the better choice here. As you said yourself, it's not really tabular data, so in using DIVs you can use semantic markup which is a positive for SEO.
You could improve/cleanup the markup of that data though, by:
-
Use
,
,
tags. Even the bolded text in the lefthand column are basically headers for the text in the righthand column.
-
You should remove the empty class="hr">tags, which I assume are in there to create the horizontal lines. It's nit picky, as if you remove them, you'll need to add a 'wrapper DIV' surrounding each row, so you won't really be cutting down on the code used that much. But having empty tags that are only there for presentation purposes is generally frowned upon. You could create the same visual effect by using a border or by using a background image (if you want the line to not fully extend across the row).
That's all pretty nitpicky coding stuff though. For SEO purposes, I think the only thing that might have an affect is using the <hx>tags.</hx>

Hey Oliver
Looking at those tables I can't see that you would have any problems with how you have done it. We do have a lot of mark up but it is all seemingly well structured with divs, unordered lists, list items etc.
I certainly would not worry about it in this case.

Schema.org Data Appears on Website
Hello Moz World, I would like to incorporate Schema Data onto my website. My website has Meta tags in the of the document, which incorporates our keywords. And, in the footer, I have my businesses address, logo and other relevant information. Everything flows because it is stylized using CSS. When I input the schema.org data it appears on the website as text w/ a hyperlink. See Code: My Company

Phone: NUMBER I've tried to put it inside the head, body & footer of the HTML code. I want my website to show up properly through Google Structured Data Testing Tool however, I don't want the text to show up on my website not stylized. It sticks out like a soar thumb no matter where I incorporate it. My questions are; Should I even bother with Schema.org? And, is there a way to incorporate it into my website so it does not show up and Google can still pull it up? Thanks ahead of time for all of the awesome responses! B/R Will H.0 -
How to make the most of our data, charts and graphs online?
Hi, Our business has an enormous amount of data at our disposal, which we have traditionally only ever printed in our offline publications. I am aware however that much of this information would be of great use to people searching for the topics we cover online, so it strikes me that there must be a way to represent our data, tables and graphs online to maximise the visibility of the information. For example rather than simply including an image of a graph on a web page and editing the alt text to something like "Saudi Arabia economic growth 1995-2016", is there a way to publish this data online that will give search engines and users some good contextual information about what we are trying to show? Would certain rich snippets for example do the trick? Any help or pointers that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lou

Website Isn't Ranking & I'm Not Sure Why Based On The Data
Hi Moz Community,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | ErrickG
I am having an issue that has been killing me for some time and I could really use another opinion. One of my client’s websites hasn't been ranking for some time and I can't put my finger on it. There are no issues showing up in the webmaster tools. If you compare the site with the tops ranking sites for the websites number one keyword, the website is just as good as everyone else. My clients website is the first one on the left in the attachment. We have better quality content but instead of showing up on page 1,2,3 the site is on page 21. I am just at a lost. Anyone have any thoughts outside looking in. Thanks,

Bypassing Google, Data Highlighter and Webmaster tools
eLLo! Has anyone used Data Highlighter? I've had colleagues mentioning a jump in CTR after using the data highlighter on pages. Thought I'll do the same and went into my webmaster tools but I've hit a brick wall. Whenever I highlight a product page, my country selector pops up and I'm unable to highlight a product page. A colleague of mine mentioned to bypass google by basing it on user agent, this will allow you to avoid the country selector. But if I bypass Google, wouldn't it affect Google Analytics, Indexing etc?

Dynamic URLs Appearing on Google Page 1\. Convert to Static URLs or not?
Hi, I have a client who uses dynamic URLs thoughout his site. For SEO purposes, I've advised him to convert dynamic URLs to static URLs whenever possible. However, the client has a few dynamic URLs that are appearing on Google Page 1 for strategically valuable keywords. For these URLs, is it still worth it to 301 them to static URLs? In this case, what are the potential benefits and/or pitfalls?

Rankings for Home vs. Internal Pages - Potential 301?
Hi everyone: A site I'm working with until recently was ranking page 1 for its primary keyword. For the last month, they've dropped to page 4. One thing we've noticed is that the page that is ranking is an internal page (http://www.example.com/keyword-string) and at this point, everything ranking above us is ranking based on the root domain (http://www.competitor.com). We've eliminated Panda, penalties, and any other obvious causes for the drop in rankings. We have similar or better page rank, external links, domain trust, etc. in comparison to the sites still ranking page 1. We think this may be part of our problem. Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do to change it and how did it work? We're considering eliminating the existing internal page and 301'ing to the home page. The keyword in question is the core of the business, so this is a natural change, but we're loath to lose years of investment in promoting the internal page. Also, the site was originally optimized with the primary keyword throughout (appears in META tags, headers on multiple pages). How important is it to clear these out to make Google see the home page as most relevant? Thanks!!
