Are links from pages in other languages ok?
-
Hey everyone, what are your thoughts on this? If a bunch of links from another language, say the site is in Canada and is in English but we have french links pointing to the site with english keywords...is that ok? Will that harm us?
Opinions? Facts?
-
LOL I didn't want those types of links, but these guys are vancouver based and we purchased a link building package from them. I feel their techniques are pretty poor and I am not happy with the little they have done so far.
-
Oof.
We phased out comment links a long time ago. Â Too spammy. Â But of course I wish you success.
-
Yes the page it links on is french, but the keyword anchor tect is in English see here http://www.veille-seo.com/articles/linkbuilding-pourri-oui-existe.html
I want to call him on it but am trying to build a strong case against it.
-
Thank you, actually a company we hired is doing this and I thought it was weird. They are actually making blog comments on a french page with keywords in english.
-
Hi Stephanie,
It depends on how the links are structured (IMO). Â You said that you have French links pointing towards the site with English keywords. Â Does this mean that the page the links are on is in french, but the anchor text itself is in English?
Because that would be a little fishy.
On the other hand, if they are branded links, there is no reason to think that they would be harmful.
My rule of thumb is to apply common sense :). Â If a person would look at the context of the page and the link intself and say, "Boy, that looks strange", then that is bad. Â If it naturally flows, then that is good. Â We are also learning that context is very important, and that Google is reading the words in front of and behind the link. Â So be sure to look at that too.
I hope this helps!

Hi Stephanie,
Think like Google Bot, if French website i saying "check this Company in Canada it's really great!" How that can harm you?
Seriously, if this link is natural and from good quality webpage you shouldn't worry.
Thanks,
Jakub.

OK to change the anchor text of a link?
I have built a link on behalf of a ciient in a long, well-written article on a reputable website that accepts contributor accounts. I therefore control the link. I have since realised that the anchor text of the link could be optimized much better than it currently is (while still only being a partial match). Would I be punished by the algorithm for going in and changing the link? I know it's not 100% "natural," but then we're SEOs, and i don't think it's too implausible that a website owner may go in and do the same... Maybe if I add some text as well, it would make things look more natural?

Does Navigation Bar have an effect on the link juice and the number of internal links?
Hi Moz community, I am getting the "Avoid Too Many Internal Links" error from Moz for most of my pages and Google declared the max number as 100 internal links. However, most of my pages can't have internal links less than 100, since it is a commercial website and there are many categories that I have to show to my visitors by using the drop down navigation bar. Without counting the links in the navigation bar, the number of internal links is below 100. I am wondering if the navigation bar links affect the link juice and counted as internal links by Google. The Same question also applies to the links in the footer. Additionally, how about the products? I have hundreds of products in the category pages and even though I use pagination I still have many links in the category pages (probably more than 100 without even counting the navigation bar links). Does Google count the product links as internal links and how about the effect on the link juice? Here is the website if you want to take a look: http://www.goldstore.com.tr Thank you for your answers.

Alrogthimc penalty due to pharma hack that created drug links to home page. What to do?
Our site: Starcitylimo.com got destroyed by a pharma styled hack to their wordpress site. After having to re build the site from scratch to remove the virus, it was found that hundreds or even thousands of pharma links from overseas sites point to his home page (so we can't just 404 the pages). Contacting the sites for removal does nothing. Added to dissavow 4 months ago did nothing. He's page 5 for every keyword he was position 5 or better for. Is this one of those situations where its time to move on to a new domain?

I have removed over 2000+ pages but Google still says i have 3000+ pages indexed
Good Afternoon, I run a office equipment website called top4office.co.uk. My predecessor decided that he would make an exact copy of the content on our existing site top4office.com and place it on the top4office.co.uk domain which included over 2k of thin pages. Since coming in i have hired a copywriter who has rewritten all the important content and I have removed over 2k pages of thin pages. I have set up 301's and blocked the thin pages using robots.txt and then used Google's removal tool to remove the pages from the index which was successfully done. But, although they were removed and can now longer be found in Google, when i use site:top4office.co.uk i still have over 3k of indexed pages (Originally i had  3700). Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and more importantly how i can fix it? Our ranking on this site is woeful in comparison to what it was in 2011. I have a deadline and was wondering how quickly, in your opinion, do you think all these changes will impact my SERPs rankings? Look forward to your responses!

Link Building for "State" informational pages
I have a webpage for all 50 states for specific info relating to relocation and was wondering if there are any recommended links to work at getting for these pages. Â I would like to do "state" specific and possibly health related links for each page to help in the SEO rankings. I can see that if I just wanted to get 10 links on each page that is going to be 500 links I have to build and it is going to be very time consuming but I feel it is necessary. Thank you, Poo

Any idea why I can't add a Panoramio image link to my Google Places page?
Hey guys & gals! Last week, I watched one of the Pro Webinars on here related to Google Places. Â Since then, I have begun to help one of my friends with his GP page to get my feet wet. One of the tips from the webinar was to geotag images in Panoramio to use for your images on the Places page. Â However, when I try to do this, I just get an error that says they can't upload it at this time. I tried searching online for answers, but the G support pages that I have found where someone asks the same question, there is no resolution. Can anyone help? PS - I would prefer not to post publicly the business name, URL, etc. Â So, if that info is needed, I can PM. Thanks a lot!
