Can anyone show me a good example of Microdata for a site
-
Hi, i am just learning about microdata after being told that it would be a good idea to have this for my site www.in2town.co.uk as i understand it, if i put this in, then it will allow google to understand more about my page
I have been reading about it here https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=99170
and would like to know if anyone is using it and if it is making a difference, also can anyone show me some good examples on a working website please
i work in joomla so as i understand it, i would have to put this in each page to help google understand more about the page and its content
any help would be great.

Thank you for this, looks like i need to get on top of this and start using it on my site.

Structured data is extremely beneficial when executed properly and under the right circumstances. It's not usable for every single piece or type of content on a site though. So the first challenge is to determine what on your site is viable for being coded with structured data markup.
For example, on the article you referenced, Google gives some examples of the types of content that would benefit from this:
There are many more uses nowadays - article authorship information, publisher information, and a host of possibilities thanks to Schema.org - a collaborative effort between Google, Bing and Yahoo.
Want to go even further, you can then layer in the Facebook OpenGraph system on top of that - a completely different way to markup content information for crawl-ability improvements.
As you scan through all the various types of data that could qualify, from there it's a matter of following implementation guidelines.
If you've done any type of search recently for sports scores, weather, searches with "reviews" in the search phrase, "Current events in ____", you've likely seen structured data integrated into some of the organic results - when you see it, it's pretty obvious in that it provides very specific types of information, presented in very clean visual ways as compared to purely seeing a page title and two line description of the page.

Our clients Magento 2 site has lots of obsolete categories. Advice on SEO best practice for setting server level redirects so I can delete them?
Our client's Magento website has been running for at least a decade, so has a lot of old legacy categories for Brands they no longer carry. We're looking to trim down the amount of unnecessary URL Redirects in Magento, so my question is: Is there a way that is SEO efficient to setup permanent redirects at a server level (nginx) that Google will crawl to allow us at some point to delete the categories and Magento URL Redirects? If this is a good practice can you at some point then delete the server redirects as google has marked them as permanent?

Can anyone confirm they have predictable rating shifts based on the day of the week?
Hey all, The site in question is https://amygalbraith.com The keyword I am trying to rank for (among others) is 'Seattle Wedding Photographer'. I have seen a truly strange pattern emerge. Each Monday in the past two weeks, this site has been ranked in the top 20, usually around 11-14. Come Tuesday, it will drop completely out of the top 50, usually around page 7-8. Does anyone know of anything that might account for that kind of erratic shift in placement? We aren't making any changes to the site: no a/b testing or anything is occurring at the moment. I'm baffled. It could be a fluke. You can bet I will be trying to get screenshots this coming Monday.

Can I redirect a link even if the link is still on the site
Hi Folks, I've got a client who has a duplicate content because they actually create duplicate content and store the same piece of content in 2 different places. When they generate this duplicate content, it creates a 2nd link on the site going to the duplicate content. Now they want the 2nd link to always redirect to the first link, but for architecture reasons, they can't remove the 2nd link from the site navigation. We can't use rel-canonical because they don't want visitors going to that 2nd page. Here is my question: Are there any adverse SEO implications to maintaining a link on a site that always redirects to a different page? I've already gone down the road of "don't deliberately create duplicate content" with the client. They've heard me, but won't change. So, what are your thoughts? Thanks!

Can I use high ranking sites to push my competitors out of the first page of search results?
I'm looking at a bunch of long tail low traffic keywords that aren't difficult to rank for. As I was idly doing a boring task my mind wandered and I thought.... Why don't I ask lots of questions about these keywords on sites such as Moz, Quora, Reddit etc where the high DA will get them to rank for the search term? The results on a SEO site or Q&A site won't be relevant and so I'd starve my competitors of some of their leads. Of course I'm not sure the effort would be worth it but would it work? (and no, none of my long tail keywords are included in this post)

Mobile site rank on Google S.E. instead of desktop site.
Hello, all SEOers~ Today, I would like to hear your opinion regarding on Mobile site and duplicate contents issue. I have a mobile version of our website that is hosted on a subdomain (m instead www). Site is targeting UK and Its essentially the same content, formatted differently. So every URL on www exists also at the "m" subdomain and is identical content. (there are some different contents, yet I could say about 90% or more contents are same) Recently I've noticed that search results are showing links to our mobile site instead of the desktop site. (Google UK) I have a sitemap.xml for both sites, the mobile sitemap defined as follows: I didn't block googlebot from mobile site and also didn't block googlebot-mobile from desktop site. I read and watched Google webmaster tool forum and related video from Matt Cutts. I found many opinion that there is possibility which cause duplicate contents issue and I should do one of followings. 1. Block googlebot from mobile site. 2. Use canonical Tag on mobile site which points to desktop site. 3. Create and develop different contents (needless to say...) Do you think duplicate contents issue caused my mobile site rank on S.E. instead of my desktop site? also Do you think those method will help to show my desktop site on S.E.? I was wondering that I have multi-country sites which is same site format as I mentioned above. However, my other country sites are totally doing fine on Google. Only difference that I found is my other country sites have different Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop site, but my UK mobile site has same Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop. Do you think this also has something to do with current problem? Please people~! Feel free to make some comments and share your opinion. Thanks for reading my long long explanation.
