Are articles still benificial and how best to promote them?
-
Hello,
I'm trying to promote a new site doing things differently moving forward if needed in order to prevent getting google slapped while being as efficient as possible..
We have a main site which manufacturers materials. we also have a blog on blogger.com every week someone in our office writes an article about something related to our area of work and within the article has a varied keyword or two embedded within the article they are writing...
My questions are as follows:
-1- should be change our blog site address from oursite.blogger.com to blog.oursite.com?
-2- would it be beneficial to have a link from our main site to the oursite.blogger.com
-3- We also have a ezine account, would it be beneficial to also post this same article perhaps with some minor changes to our ezine account so that it would start to get more visibility from other sites or is this now possibly a no no?
-4- should we be now usin nofollow links in our articles? if we do use nofollow links aren't we losing the benefit?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
-
What I was trying to say is that it is not easy to contact the webmaster of certain websites to add the canonical tag to prove that you are the original author. Therefore, if you are planning to do it, make sure you can reach the webmaster and they are willing to add the canonical tag.
-
Since I don't know which industry or niche you are in, it is hard to recommend authority blog sites to guest blog on. What you can do is either 1) Google "Guest Blog + Industry/niche" or 2) Visit http://myblogguest.com/ and browse the forum to see what blogs are looking for guest authors. It is free to create an accont and everyone in the community is nice. If you ask people, I am sure a lot of people will refer you to that site to look for guest blogs.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Once again thank you..
Can I get some clarification:
-1-
HAVE TO MAKE SURE that they use canonical tag pointing to your article so that Google will know that your article is the original article.
I understand canonical to meaning http://www.mysite.com but what do you mean but tag pointing, can you further elaborate please?
-2-
Can you suggest some names of some of these authority blog site to guest blog on? Also would we need to write original articles for these sites as a guest blogger or could I just use the same one that I am writing for the blog.mysite.com weekly..
thanks in advance for the extended info..

- If you don't want to share your link juice, then use the nofollow. You should let your links link natually instead of manually adding nofollows to links. The following 2 links can provide you with more information on the nofollow internal linking.

http://www.seomoz.org/blog/questions-answers-with-googles-spam-guru
- The more popular way to promote your website is to guest blog on other authority sites. One, you get to spread your name and knowledge and two, you get a nice juicy nautral backlink from them. I guess you can post on other sites with the same article to gain more visibility; however, you HAVE TO MAKE SURE that they use canonical tag pointing to your article so that Google will know that your article is the original article. Well, Guest blog is the way to go.

Thank you for the info and insight.. I have a couple more questions if you don't mind:
-1- What about links to my site from my articles, can they be follow links instead of nofollow?
-2- as you stated I believe e-zine style promotion is old tactic, can you suggest some more new tactic ways, or if its to lengthy can you direct me to a good article describing these
-3- any other input or suggestions is well welcomed..
Thank you..

Hi,
-
Yes, definitely have the blog under your domain. It provides more benefits than not doing so. You can either create a subdomain or a subfolder for your blog. Blog.website.com or website.com/blog
-
Whether you have a blog outside or under same domain, you should have a link on the main website to drive taffic to the blog.
-
If you do not rewrite the article and simply post the same article to ezine, it is not beneficial. Posting on ezine and article directories is an old tactic and doesn't work as well now. However, these directoies can definitely give you more views but not good for SEO.
Create a blog under your domain and post frequently so your site will get the freshness update overall. Keyword research before publishing and include them in your article. Provide informative articles and make sure to share on Social Media sites. Social Signal is slowly playing a part in SEO.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best SEO Strategy for Badges & Awards.
Hello Moz Friends! I was wondering what the correct "SEO friendly" strategy is with badges and awards. We recently got BBB accredited and added their badge to the footer of the website. We also added a review badge from shopper approved to the footer. As I'm joining other communities, I see there's badges given to us. For example, Alignable. Great place for networking. They offer a badge that says "locals recommend us" or something. Should I embed these badges onto our website someplace? Should I create a page for just badges or place them in the footer or sidebar widgets? What the best SEO practice for this? Thank you!!

Glossary/Terms Page - What is the best way?
We have a glossary section on our website with hundreds of terms. At the moment we have it split into letters, e.g. there one page with all the terms starting with A, another for B etc.. I am conscious that this is not the best way to do things as not all of these pages are being indexed, and the traffic we get to these pages is very low. Any suggestions on what would be the best way to improve this? The 2 ideas I have at the moment are Have every term on a separate page, but ensuring there is enough copy for that term Leave as is, but have the URL change once a user scrolls down the page. E.g. the first page would be www.website.com/glossary/a/term-1 then once the user scrolls past this terms and onto the next one the URL would change to www.website.com/glossary/a/term-2

Best practice recommendations for enabling multiple languages on your site?
I find that the advice for multi-language sites is always tied with multi-region, but what about US only sites that want to be multi-lingual? What are the best practice recommendations there? HREFLANG tags necessary? TLDs? Do you need to purchase yoursite.us , yoursite.sp , etc.. or would yoursite.com/en yoursite.com/sp suffice? Should the extensions be region based even if the language is the only difference?

Is it best to have products and reviews on the same URL?
Hi Moz, Is it better to have products and reviews on the same or different URLs? I suspect that combining these into one page will help with rankings overall even though some ranking for product review terms may suffer. This is for a hair products company with tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of reviews. Thanks for reading!

Best method to update navigation structure
Hey guys, We're doing a total revamp of our site and will be completely changing our navigation structure. Similar pages will exist on the new site, but the URLs will be totally changed. Most incoming links just point to our root domain, so I'm not worried about those, but the rest of the site does concern me. I am setting up 1:1 301 redirects for the new navigation structure to handle getting incoming links where they need to go, but what I'm wondering is what is the best way to make sure the SERPs are updated quickly without trashing my domain quality, and ensuring my page and domain authority are maintained. The old links won't be anywhere on the new site. We're swapping the DNS record to the new site so the only way for the old URLs to be hit will be incoming links from other sites. I was thinking about creating a sitemap with the old URLs listed and leaving that active for a few weeks, then swapping it out for an updated one. Currently we don't have one (kind of starting from the bottom with SEO) Also, we could use the old URLs for a few weeks on the new site to ensure they all get updated as well. It'd be a bit of work, but may be worth it. I read this article and most of that seems to be covered, but just wanted to get the opinions of those who may have done this before. It's a pretty big deal for us. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/uncrawled-301s-a-quick-fix-for-when-relaunches-go-too-well Am I getting into trouble if I do any of the above, or is this the way to go? PS: I should also add that we are not changing our domain. The site will remain on the same domain. Just with a completely new navigation structure.

What would be the best domain choice?
Hello I got a website www.keywordCA.com and I'm ranking #1 spot on "keyword" but what I notice if you have the exact match you get more site links and etc. Like this keyword that match with my domain name "keyword CA" The ideal name will be www.keyword.com but is taken and the owner don't want to sell the domain (at least he is not using it, is just parked) and I also got the domain www.keyword.net Do you think www.keyword.net will be much better than KeywordCA.com in order to get more exposure and google will generate more site links?
