What is better for SEO, keeping a current blog or creating a new one?
-
We are working with a client to build a new website. They are asking if we should keep their existing blog or create a new one. If they keep the current blog, should we move it so we can incorporate it into their new site or keep it as a separate URL? Or, should we build the new site into the current blog––they are using Wordpress, so we would be able to build out the blog to incorporate the new website.

If the blog is on a separate URL I would set up a new blog on the actual domain of the site and import the DB from the off site blog, and keep the content but under the main domain instead. Redirect the old blog URL to the new domain.com/blog/ URL.
That is assuming that you aren't getting a huge amount of traffic from the blog which is driving traffic to the main site and converting.

I agree with Martin - I would have your existing blog as part of your new site so that you can benefit from the page authority that it has already gained helping boost your new site. If you leave the blog as an external site you would only benefit from one link whereas integration means you will benefit from all the links that blog has already gained...
It would be a waste to scrap something that has already had time and effort put into it in regards to creating a new one!

I'd either use a plugin or RSS feed from the current blog for the new site. If the content is good enough you want to be passing as much PA to the new page. An external blog with inbound anchor text can be misconstrued as link manipulation (or link wheeling ). I'd only bother with external if you use it for co-citation and/or diversifying your anchor text.

301 redirect blog posts from old URL to new one
I moved a wordpress blog from domain.com to domain.com/blog . I want to redirect the links in google from the old domain.com to the new one, but I also want to put a new site/application at domain.com..so I'm thinking an .htaccess 301 redirect at the root wouldn't work. Any tips?

SEO value of an on-site hosted blog
We are in the process of upgrading our blogging capability. Our preference would be to host a Wordpress blog under our site url. However due to our technical set up we've found out that it isn't possible to put Wordpress onto our servers so we'll need to go with a hosted version. Does anyone have any idea or examples of how this could affect our SEO performance? Also - is Wordpress the best tool - seems to be the most popular! Thanks. Jon

Does ViewState affect SEO Rankings
We are redesigning our website and looking at our large data in the viewstate hidden field. Our thoughts are to move to bottom of page but our developers are stating this is an old myth and no resent documentation if it improves our SEO. Does ViewState (big data in hidden fields ) effect SEO in any way? If ViewState (hidden field) is present at the end of HTML document instead of near the start of HTML document then will it increase our ranking in search engines? Does Google or any other engine read the hidden fields? or do they ignore them? Can you point me to some valid documentation to back this up? Feed back is appreciated. Cathy
