Why are search results different for 'Yahoo Search' and Powered by Yahoo search?
-
So if you misspell something (no dns to connect with... unregistered domain as an example) on a browser that uses a Road Runner connection, it takes you to a search engine 'powered by yahoo search' which searches for whatever you typed in.
Anyway, today we noticed that the website of one of our clients isn't coming up in this 'Powered by Yahoo Search' via roadrunner but comes up in Yahoo Search for the same query. In fact, we noticed that our clients website (10 yrs + established site) is missing in yahoo powered by search but on all other engines.
Any clues? I thought this should be generally the same across Yahoo / Yahoo Powered / Bing / Bing Powered.
Could this be using something pre-bing merger?
-
I believe they are, yes.
Here's another concept. Yahoo's own search results come from Bing. What would be the point of Yahoo displaying the exact same results as Bing though? So it's a known fact that Yahoo takes Bing's data and changes it for the main Yahoo search.
So in that same way, I am saying I believe Yahoo then goes even further and provides yet a different result set for "powered by Yahoo".
-
Could you clarify what you mean? Are you implying that Yahoo sponsored search is intentionally different?
-
It's kind of like like having a different set of product descriptions for your own site vs. product descriptions you provide to shopping aggregation sites.
Why would you want to give away your best, most current, stuff? If you did, what would motivate people to go to your site? They don't TELL people that, but that's the reality of business.

Community Discussion - Voice Search: A Future to be Shaped
Voice search represents a new challenge for SEOs, certainly, but it may also outline some pretty cool opportunities. In Purna Virji's post about the subject, there's an interesting line of thought raised in the comments: voice search reacting to differences in accent and mispronunciations, and taking those things into account for optimization. Let's just take a minute and think about all the wild possibilities in a hypothetical world where voice search is more prevalent than text queries. Release your imagination from the confines of current reality. cue Twilight Zone music

We use SLI for our searches and are thinking of just going back to the searches on our platfrom Bigcommerce
Does anyone have any experience with the advantages of using a search product like SLI in comparison to the search available on Bigcommerce. We currently use SLI for the searches on our site but think over the years we have been using SLI that the searches on Bigcommerce have improved and we are thinking of switching back to using the Bigcommerce search. Good rankings with Google but difficulties to enter on Top 50 with Bing and Yahoo?
Hi guys, I'm facing this problem with some websites that I'm trying to optimize for the search engines. I've worked on a good SEO on Page and I've had not so many difficulties to get good ranking results on Google. The problem is that I'm not having any result with Yahoo and Bing, even if I've sent the sitemap to the Bing Webmaster Toll and I'm keeping under control the possible crawling errors both on Google and Bing Webmaster Tool. Can someone please help me with an explanation?

Best way to prevent "Duplicate Content" for different links
We are working on job portal domain. As we know jobs going to be expired day by day. I will give you my question by example. Example: I have two links [mysite.com/Jobs-In-Cincinnati and mysite.com/Jobs-In-Atlanta]. Before month I had too many jobs on both the links. Jobs were expired one by one after two/three months I don't have any jobs on both the links. So I got same page content on both the links like "please refine search". Google consider these two pages as duplicate content issue. Will you please suggest which is the best way to come out from it? Thanks in advance.

How often do you submit to local search/citation sites?
I recently received a Network Solutions spam/offer email regarding their internet marketing packages. One of the "benefits" they cited was that they submit your information to local search/citation sites once a month, to keep it up-to-date. I don't know about you guys, but my clients' information isn't changing on a frequent basis. I remember when it used to be a tactic to submit regularly to the same citation sites, but that seems like overkill now. Does anyone still do this, or is NS just trying to make their product sound good? Do we need to update citation sites frequently, or is it enough to update when there are actual changes to make?

What are realistic goals for local serch results?
I have a brand new domain, 2 months old, and am just finishing design. What are realistic goals for the 1rst year in local search results? My competition appears to be the local directories. Manta, yellowpages, angieslist, BBB and so on. Is it realistic to expect to eventually outrank them for the local search terms? (City Service Keyword) If so, what is a realistic time frame for someone putting in 10 to 15 hours a week on SEO, Including content creation. This was the humbling report I just ran. Looks like my choices are to beat them or pay them excessive amounts of money. http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/keyword-difficulty/results.html?commit=Run+Report&date=2013-02-19&engine_id=96&keywords=Lakeville+snow+plowing&utf8=✓

Are Word .doc or .txt files indexed into Search Engines?
I have a new client that is using Word files on their site, downloadable press releases. They feel that reporters prefer downloading press releases as Word .doc's instead of .pdf's since they can open and edit the content. Do these files offer any SEO?
