Modx revolution- getting around index.php vs. root duplicate content issue?
-
Basically, SEOMoz bots are flagging our index.php and root files as duplicate content of one another, therefore cutting the page authority of each.
What we want to do is make the root the canonical preference over index.php.
Ordinarily, we should be able to do this in the htaccess file. For some reason, as the site has been built into a cms using ModX Revolution, this does not seem to work.
We've tried A TON of htaccess rewrite mods to resolve this issue to no avail. We have also tried revising our sitemap to include only the root address.
Any ideas? We'll try most anything at this point.
Thanks in advance.

Takeshi,
Sorry it took me a bit to get back to this post.
I would appear that this issue has been taken care of, presumably either through the canonical tag OR a sitemap resubmission that I had cleaned up.
However- When I do a search for domain.com/index.php in Google, it does still appear- is this something to worry about in your opinion?

The canonical tag should take care of the duplicate content issue. When you do a site: search of your site on Google are multiple versions of the same content showing up? If not, then the canonicals are doing their job. It could just be the case that SEOMoz's crawler just hasn't re-crawled your site yet (it can take a few weeks).

Takeshi,
I forgot to include that we had already tried placing a canonical link in the home template header. Unfortunately, it did not take care of the issue for us.
Thanks for the idea, though.
Any others?

You can try a canonical tag in the header:

Woocommerce Duplicate Page Content Issue
Hi, I'm receiving a duplicate content error. It says that this url: https://kidsinministry.org/childrens-ministry-curriculum/?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=41 is a duplicate of this: http://kidsinministry.org/childrens-ministry-curriculum I'm using wordpress, woocommerce, and not really sure how to even address this. I tried adding this to .htaccess but it didn't redirect the url: 301 Redirects Redirect 301 https://kidsinministry.org/childrens-ministry-curriculum/?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=41 http://kidsinministry.org/childrens-ministry-curriculum/ Anyone have any ideas? I am trying to correct error report of duplicate page content. However I am unable to find in over 100 blogs the page which contains similar content to the page SEOmoz reported as having similar content is my only option to just dlete the blog page?
I am trying to correct duplicate content. However SEOmoz only reports and shows the page of duplicate content. I have 5 years worth of blogs and cannot find the duplicate page. Is my only option to just delete the page to improve my rankings. Brooke

Cross-domain duplicate content issue
Hey all, Just double-checking something. Here's the issue, briefly. One of my clients is a large law firm. The firm has a main site, and an additional site for an office in Atlanta. On the main site, there is a list of all attorneys and links to their profiles (that they wrote themselves). The Atlanta site has this as well, but lists only the attorneys located in that office. I would like to have the profiles for the Atlanta lawyers on both sites. Would rel=canonical work to avoid a dupe-content smackdown? The profiles should rank for Atlanta over the main site. This just means that G will drop the main site's profiles (for those attorneys) from their index, correct? No other weird side effects? I hope I worded all that clearly!

What are some of the negative effects of having duplicate content from other sites?
This could include republishing several articles from another site with permission.
