Good morning my fellow Mozzers! I am currently looking at adding some diversity to my current web hosting and I was hoping I could get some suggestions. I dont currently need a VPS or Dedicated Server, I just need some shared hosting, you know, packeges that are sub $20 a month...i mean i will pay more than that, but so far everything i look at that meets my needs(basic hosting, email, ect...). This is for client sites and they are growing in number somewhat rapidly. I currently host with GoDaddy and they are amazing in the support department, but I do question whether their servers are causing slow page loads ect...but all in all I am happy with them. I have used Netword Solutions in the past, but left them because i was not a big fan of talking to support people in india and malasia. I do think that their servers might have performed better than GoDaddy so i am not ruling them out at this point

i am looking for a provider that has excellent support and who has servers that are not so overloaded the can render pages and content slowly. Performance is very important to me. I am not looking for the cheapest, I am looking for the overall best.

      Thanks in advance SEOmoz family!!!

I am glad I was able to help. Please let me know if you have any issues with pair as I doubt you will. But they really are a fantastic web host and I think you made a great decision. I'm happy I could've been of assistance

        Sincerely,

        Thomas

Four attempts to contact a salesperson at Liquid Web was a complete failure and aggravation.  They are a good host I am sure, but they didn't have it together enough to have a competent, friendly sales rep with a working headset available.  And when I did get a rep on the phone...which I could barely hear, they seemed annoyed that I dare ask what the benefits of hosting with Liquid Web are.  Really, I wanted to go with them, but I felt like I was already seeing red flags.  Pair, honestly...and perhaps this was a mistake, but I didn't like their website...it seemed very bare bones and antiquated....I mean was not looking for a host with the flashiest website by any means, but their site was concerning to me....too, basic...like not even minimalist, but just looked unsophisticated.  It made me concerned they may be very frugal, and I feared that frugality may also apply to purchasing infrastructure...and Orange....eh...I don't know..just wasn't feeling it.  With Media Temple I spoke with someone that sounded very professional, not salesy, was quite candid and knowledgeable....he was one of their engineers...site was nice....their market growth impressive....I just got a good feeling from them.  Perhaps I had the wrong mindset in my decision, but hey....it's $20 buck a month and I am going to be bringing on about 4 more hosting providers, so I am not too concerned. Honestly....liquid web REALLY irked me....

I am if interested why would you go to media Temple? Especially shared there really not known for reliability or speed grid infrastructure of their WordPress place them under with 3 hosts as suggested hosts however they've removed them and replace them with laughing squid since something based off rack space much more reliable. and it's also not showing up.

They look cool I as well

                all the best ,

I'm happy you like my pick  thank you. I actually really love hosting and spend a lot of time in investigating it. One thing you might find very interesting is this this is the top 40 hosts in the country and then they go by the top 10 top 5 sometimes from month to month tell me if you see a pattern http://news.netcraft.com/archives/category/performance/

I can cut to the chase pair networks is in 8/10 of the top ten in the world MT can't do anything link that. I could give you 100 links that show media Temple is decent further extremely high-end customers other than that they are not a good hosting system for shared host am sorry it's the truth and GS is not good it looks nice.

Media Temple doesn't show up I don't believe not list I can search for them

                  http://snnyc.com/2011/04/media-temple-issue/

Disclaimer I use a host web synthesis that uses a specific lamp they built on media Temple its work all right so this is not at all on media Temple as a company however it is a serious bash on them for this long and telling us its current GS using their GS service wasting people's money and having one of the slowest shared systems on the market and most complained about and by far in the lowest bottom 5% for uptime CS I don't care if it comes out or not I have no interest in it.

Below is a testimonial from a man Unger put the link up to this is for the person asking the question it's not a rant

2 main products line: dv and shared. Those comes in several flavors. Have been with them 3 years and had both gs and dv. DV is not recommendable unless you are extremely ignorant in IT. They offer a great support in IT and guide you through a learning process so that you do not have to rely on them and they save support money. But what they offer at 50 bucks a month for the DV is much lower than other reliable companies for the same price. "

                  |

Do you host a little bit everything?

Yes liquid Web to be honest is not the same type of customer support that you're going to get from pair media Temple are using GS man?

There is a beautiful side to media Temple it is a gorgeous looking system. And their support is not bad but not great but they're not bad. There dedicated or virtual dedicated stuff is okay its really not anything that you want to use until you get into the VE or the helix cloud.

I hope you have a good experience on media Temple but I can tell you one thing man GS scanner crash

I second ASmallOrange.com, amazing support. Another one is ServInt.com

Both of them are great in support. I hope this helps.

So you know that if you're hosting WordPress. And you want to really speed and security. WP engine and Page.ly both outstanding WordPress only hosts that are extremely fast then built to be quick and safe. Offer discounts to SEOmoz pro members

Pagely offers 30% Off All Plans for life. That would bring your total under $20.

                      https://page.ly/

The WP engine offers 4 months of free hosting. If you take that into consideration it is less money than obviously paying for its full price.

                      http://wpengine.com/

These are each managed and extremely great companies to work with.

Just for informational reasons and because I think you should know

ZippyKid offers you an enterprise class DNS system and content delivery network

For $25 a month it is a WordPress only site like the others. However it too offers incredible speed and customer support.

                      https://www.zippykid.com/

Web synthesis is 8 web hosting company built for managed WordPress again however they like the others are outstanding security as far as speed and support. I felt you should know these at least exist.

                      http://websynthesis.com/

Lastly page fully keeps giving you 30% off every new account you add and they're backed by fire host which is a 100% enterprise host.

Zippy kid  charges $15 more per a site or $10 more per hundred thousand views per month

WP engine goes up to a much higher plan that would equal $10 a website if you were running all WordPress. It would be a good choice.

Web synthesis is $200 for no more than 3 domains so you don't save a lot of money adding sites. However they're very very good

here is the link you need to find the discounts through SEOmoz

                      http://www.seomoz.org/pro-perks

So you know these sites are going as far fixing that work hacked site's that was attacked for free and giving you a lot more than what you actually get by paying it to each different vendor to make a host like this.

Content delivery networks and any cast DNS make your website very fast along with private clouds and top tier data centers that's where the true speed comes in and I would suggest if it's WordPress one of these.

Again I understand you set under $20 and I do believe page.ly we now meets that criteria I don't know if you are going to use it for WordPress were not but if you are I would recommend using one of these.

So you know as well if it's not WordPress that's fine of course**, then** I would use pair networks and I would add either MAX CDN or CDN77 each content delivery network costs under $39 for 1 terabyte that's much more than many websites will ever use in a year.  This will add speed to any of your sites you can also use a company like DNS made easy to get 10 domains hosted on their anycast DNS network with 11 year uptime

                      http://dnsmadeeasy.com

                      With  Pair  http://news.netcraft.com/archives/category/performance/

I should also tell you SEOmoz perks gives you great deals on domains

If you need a name  that is registered or very unique http://www.dynadot.com/ is the place to go a nother that seomoz made a deal me to deal with with is http://www.namecheap.com/

                      http://www.singlehop.com/partners/reseller-hosting/#white-label

Free reselling from Singlehop, Pair & Page.ly

I hope this was of help,

                      Tom

I just tried Liquid Web...I was going to go with them, but twice I called and the voice connection was horrible and when I asked the sales rep to explain the benefits of going with liquid web as opposed to other providers, she almost acted annoyed...it was very uncomfortable...not a great way to enter into a business relationship....unfortunately they are scratched off the list of possibilities as a place to bring our rapidly growing web agencies client websites....

Trying Media Temple and your suggested Pair...thanks!

All of our websites are wordpress sites hosted by BlueHost, and I've been completely satisfied.  They are however lower traffic sites (30-100) visitors per day. When I called them I think I talked to someone in Utah and the support was great.

If I were in the market for new hosting right now I'd probably be looking into Media Temple.

Every one of these are backed up nightly not weekly or monthly.

The 1st two are considered truly outstanding in the industry especially pair their uptime is literally almost unbeatable.

Can tell you from working with many hosting providers. That to give you a reference as to what is the faster host when you're talking about shared web hosting. Is very hard because unless you take out the shared equation is is possible for one person to use more of the ram and CPU than another depending on the company. They are also the only ones who offer a hosted email solution along with their product for no extra cost. This is very important because you don't want to share an IP address and have somebody blacklisted because they spam someone in you happen to share it because you're on shared hosting.

I would recommend one fantastic company that you can get shared hosting for under $20 is pair networks I also believe them to be the quickest as they really are very generous and very caring when it comes to their customers allocated space as opposed to almost every other shared host I can think of. Aside from the two others I am listing

                              http://pair.com

Their plans are listed here so you know the start up most expensive of the top and go down to the least expensive. This is their shared hosting offering, and you'll see everyone gets a dedicated IP address along with quite a bit of extras and I can speak from experience there staff will treat you as if you've spent $4000 month the same as if you're spending 4. Their base plan and set $10 month and goes up from there

                              http://www.pair.com/services/web_hosting/

I believe if you research them you'll agree that they are probably the best bet. Considering shared hosting companies can limit the amount of people on a node or a server and pair is considered one of the best of the best also has some of the best uptime of any host at all. Your site is backed up every night and the server does not use a Cpanel it uses a perfect proprietary panel for security and speed reasons. This is why I know personally I believe the research should pair do not stuff people onto their servers as Go Daddy is known to and the way that they're run is optimized I should let you know there is a one-time $25 setup fee I believe however you may be able to pass them to waive it I would personally pay it to have the ability to host on such a renowned host

You have 100 days money back guarantee if you do not like it and 24 7 phones and e-mail support

The other two I could think of being liquid Web they offer a shared hosting plan for under $20 as well and they are considered to be a fantastic host.

Very also offer 24 7 phone and e-mail support and backup your site nightly

They are very up to date and considered amongst many one of the best hosting companies. Like pair they can work with you if you get larger until you get to whatever you want very large services. However I would still personally use pair. hears liquid webs shared hosting solution for under $20

                              http://www.liquidweb.com/configure/standard-website-hosting-plan

The other is a small orange.

                              Their plans are here

                              http://asmallorange.com/hosting/

They are a great company that does what I believe is a outstanding job for the money. They also offer a backup the difference between a small orange and the two companies I've listed is unfortunately a small orange only does e-mail support however this normally is not an issue if it is for you obviously I hope I've told you about her prior.

All of them allow you to buy domains through their services I don't know if you post WordPress but if you do I would look into managed WordPress hosting it really gives you a lot of bang for the buck however you did not want to exceed $20 and $25 is where I knew managed WordPress hosting starts so if you're interested in Matt let me know and I'd be happy to share my information and knowledge about that with you.

I hope this has been of help.

                              Sincerely,

                              Thomas

Well chances are godaddy is slow because of the number of sites per server. Check out these advanced hosting plans you wont be disappointed. The support is top level USA based technical support and the servers are ran on cloud Linux which is a dream come true when it comes to shared hosting. Plus you get a lot of nice extra's like daily/weekly/monthly restores from the cPanel, site builders, and 1 click installers.

What’s the best tool to visualize internal link structure and relationships between pages on a single site?

I‘d like to review the internal linking structure on my site. Is there a tool that can visualize the relationships between all of the pages within my site?

Have an eBook. What is best practice for SEO?

Hello We have a free eBook - its a great resource and great piece of content. It is available to download on our website here - http://re-timer.com/the-product/how-to-sleep-better/ The book is available as a whole or as individual chapters (i.e. http://re-timer.com/app/uploads/2015/07/Chapter8.pdf?b0df38). The PDF chapters appear to be doing well in Google search for certain keywords. I can't measure this in GA though. I would like the eBook to assist the SEO of my website overall. If I create a web page and 'embedded' the PDF into it will Google still crawl this page? At the moment we are also using this to collect email addresses, this is a nice to have and it is OK if people get the eBook without doing this (if they find a chapter in Google they currently don't have to enter their email address). I'm sure lots of people have eBooks now. What is best practice and the best way to use this as a tool to maximise SEO for the whole website (http://re-timer.com)? Thank you! Laura

Internal Linking: What is the best practice for pages not included in Nav bar?

I never quite understood why internal linking was such a big deal for SEO, but now I'm having second thoughts and perhaps understanding it more. I always thought since most websites have a navigation feature--usually the menu bar located at the top and often another one in the footer--that internal navigation was usually already built in to most websites and therefore, a silly topic to make a fuss over; however, I may be the silly one after all. I am now creating pages that are not included in the navigation so.... What is the best practice for this? If I am creating say, pages for certain locations and those location pages begin to number in the hundreds, it makes my navigation bar a little too cumbersome to have all those pages in a drop down menu. So I made a Locations page and just link to all those pages from that page (and from nowhere else). But now I'm wondering if this could be a bad internal linking practice and perhaps hurt my online visibility as an SEO ranking factor. Is this a crawl problem? And if so, is there a better option that provides a good visitor experience while appeasing the search engines.

Best practice for multilanguage website ( PHP feature based on Browser or Geolocalisation)

Hi Moz Experts I would like to know what does it the best practice for multilanguage website for the default language ? There are several PHP features to help users to get the right language when they come from SEO and direct; present the default language by browser language, by gelolocalisation, etc. However, which one is the most appropriate for Quebec company that try to get outside Canada ? Lots of Listing Pages with Thin Content on Real Estate Web Site-Best to Set them to No-Index?

Greetings Moz Community: As a commercial real estate broker in Manhattan I run a web site with over 600 pages. Basically the pages are organized in the following categories: 1. Neighborhoods (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/neighborhoods/midtown-manhattan)  25 PAGES Low bounce rate 2. Types of Space (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/commercial-space/loft-space)
15 PAGES Low bounce rate. 3. Blog (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/blog/how-long-does-leasing-process-take
30 PAGES Medium/high bounce rate 4. Services (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/brokerage-services/relocate-to-new-office-space)  High bounce rate
                                  3 PAGES 5. About Us (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/about-us/what-we-do
4 PAGES High bounce rate 6. Listings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/305-fifth-avenue-office-suite-1340sf)
300 PAGES High bounce rate (65%), thin content 7. Buildings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/928-broadway
300 PAGES  Very high bounce rate (exceeding 75%) Most of the listing pages do not have more than 100 words.  My SEO firm is advising me to set them "No-Index, Follow". They believe the thin content could be hurting me. Is this an acceptable strategy? I am concerned that when Google detects 300 pages set to "No-Follow" they could interpret this as the site seeking to hide something and penalize us. Also, the building pages have a low click thru rate. Would it make sense to set them to "No-Follow" as well? Basically, would it increase authority in Google's eyes if we set pages that have thin content and/or low click thru rates to "No-Follow"? Any harm in doing this for about half the pages on the site? I might add that while I don't suffer from any manual penalty volume has gone down substantially in the last month. We upgraded the site in early June and somehow 175 pages were submitted to Google  that should not have been indexed. A removal request has been made for those pages. Prior to that we were hit by Panda in April 2012 with search volume dropping from about 7,000 per month to 3,000 per month. Volume had increased back to 4,500 by April this year only to start tanking again. It was down to 3,600 in June. About 30 toxic links were removed in late April and a disavow file was submitted with Google in late April for removal of links from 80 toxic domains. Thanks in advance for your responses!! Alan

Best Practice issue: Modx vs Wordpress

Lately I've been working a lot with Modx to create a new site for our own firm as well for other projects. But so far I haven't seen the advantages for SEO purposes other then the fact that with ModX you can manage almost everything yourself including snippets etc without to much effort. Wordpress is a known factor for blogging and since the last 2 years or so for websites. My question is: Which platform is better suited for SEO purposes? Which should I invest my time in? ModX or Wordpress? Hope to hear your thought on the matter
