Should I remove 404 urls in webmaster tools?
-
I've recently removed a lot of category pages so should I remove the urls in webmaster tools or let them drop out of the index naturally?
-
I've always used GWT as a report on my 404, and since it stops on 1000 404s I always download them for further reference and then mark them as fixed.
404s are a natural response in the whole internet so fixing them is a good thing but waiting for google to remove them from your GWT account amy take long time. If they don0t bother you follow streamline's advice.

I would recommend just letting them drop out of the index naturally. Google basically suggests doing the same thing - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/05/do-404s-hurt-my-site.html
If you find that the 404'd pages are still in the index after a period of time, then it may make sense to manually remove them via GWT.

Changing URL to a subdomain?
Hi there, I had a website www.footballshirtcollective.com that has been live since July. It contains both content and eCommerce. I am now separating out the content so that; 1. The master domain is www.footballshirtcollective.com (content) pointing to a new site 2. Subdomain is store.footballshirtcollective.com (ecommerce) - pointing to the existing site. What do you advise I can do to minimise the impact on my search? Many thanks Mike

How do you find the source of a 404
I've recently noticed quite a sharp rise in the number of 404 errors on our site. Unsurprising really as we have just had a major upgrade of our site navigation. When looking in GA at the landing page stats the vast majority of them are from Google organic search. How do I find the source of the 404? All help appreciated. Thanks. Jon

Duplicate URL home page
I just got a duplicate URL error on by SEOMOZ report - and I wonder if I should worry about it Assume my site is named www.widgets.com I'm getting duplicate url from http://www.widgets.com & http://www.widgets.com/ Do the search engines really see this as different on the home page? The general drift on the web is that You site should look like Home page = http://www.widgets.com And subpages http://www.widgets.com/widget1/ Of course it seems as though the IIS7 slash tool will rewrite everything Including the home page to a slash.

Should I Remove My Articles From Article Directories?
I have been submitting articles to directories for about 3 years. With the Panda update, it seems that these directories are now obsolete. So, if there is no link value from these articles: 1) should I remove these articles (at east the better ones) and place them on my site/blog? 2) If not, would there be any benefit at pointing some bookmarks at these old links to maybe get some juice out of them?

Should I Use City Name in URL?
Having a website designed for a car dealership and deciding what attributes to use in the URL. Should I include the city name in the URL? Or does that help for SEO purposes? Other ideas of what to research or try are appreciated too. Thanks 🙂
