How to find page with the link that returns a 404 error indicated in my crawl diagnostics?
-
Hi
Newbie here - I am trying to understand what to do, step by step, after getting my initial reports back from seomoz. The first is regarding the 404 errors shown as high priority to fix, in crawl diagnostics.
I reviewed the support info help on the crawl diagnostics page referring to 404 errors, but still did not understand exactly what I am supposed to do...same with the Q&A section when I searched how to fix 404 errors. I just could not understand exactly what anyone was talking about in relation to my 404 issues.
It seems I would want to find the page that had the bad link that sent a visitor to a page not found, and then correct the problem by removing the link, or correcting and re-uploading the page being linked to.
I saw some suggestions that seemed to indicate that seomoz itself will not let me find the page where the bad link is and that I would need to use some external program to do this. I would think that if seomoz found the bad page, it would also tell me what page the link(s) to the bad page exists on. A number of suggestions were to use a 301 redirect somehow as the solution, but was not clear when to do this versus, just removing the bad link, or repairing the page the link was pointing to.
I think therefore my question is how do I find the links that lead to 404 page not founds, and fix the problem.
Thanks
Galen

If you down load the crawl diagnostics CSV report, you can see one referrer for the problem.
I have better success using Google Webmaster Tools. You get the information "straight from the horse's mouth" as it were.
- Log in to https://www.google.com/webmasters/
- Go to Health > Crawl Errors
- Click "Not Found"
- For each listed, click the URL
- In the pop up window, the third tab will list the pages that link in.

It could be that I am missing something really obvious however we are getting the following error when we try to use the Moz tool on a client website. (I have read through a few posts on 403 errors but none that appear to be the same problem as this) Moz Result Title 403 : Error Meta Description 403 Forbidden Meta Robots_Not present/empty_ Meta Refresh_Not present/empty_ Xenu Link Sleuth Result Broken links, ordered by link: error code: 403 (forbidden request), linked from page(s): Thanks in advance!

On Link Analysis tab I my best pages are 301 and 404 pages.
I looked on my redirrect file and found that /* redirects to /v/404.asp.
Moz Pro | | sbetzen
However if you look below at the link analysis the 404 page is getting a 404 error.
The homepage ecowindchimes.com/ is getting a 301 (but I don't know where it is going to).
The third one is also redirected. 1. [No Data] ecowindchimes.com/ ||| 301 ||| 2 ||| 36 2. 2. [No Data] ecowindchimes.com/v/404.asp ||| 404 ||| 2 ||| 34 3. [No Data] 3. ecowindchimes.com/index.html?lang=en-us&target=d2.html ||| 301 ||| 1 ||| 33 So I have 2 questions: 1) should this be fixed? and 2) how? This is a volusion site and I believe the "catchall" redirect was done by them0 -
Page Authority is the same on every page of my site
I'm analyzing a site and the page authority is the exact same for every page in the site. How can this be since the page authority is supposed to be unique to each page?

Hi There In the latest report I have 54 404-errors. All last week, previously I had 2 404s that I fixed. In report say: Title404 : ErrorMeta DescriptionTraceback (most recent call last): File "build/bdist.linux- x86_64/egg/downpour/init.py", line 391, in _error failure.raiseException() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site- packages/twisted/python/failure.py", line 370, in raiseException raise self.type, self.value, self.tb Error: 404 Not FoundMeta RobotsNot present/emptyMeta RefreshNot present/empty Are these normal 404 errors I have to look at and fix? Or is this some script that running on my server and causing errors? In general - what should I do to fix this? Thanks Dean

Crawl diagnostic Notices for rel Canonical increased
Hello, We just signed up for SEO Moz, and are reviewing the results of our second web crawl. Our Errors and Warnings summary have been reduced, but our Notices for Rel Canonical have skyrocketed from 300 to over 5,500. We are using a WP with the Headway theme and our pages already have the rel=canonical along wiht rel=author. Any ideas why this number would go up so much in one week? Thank you, Michael

Why am I getting duplicate content errors on same page?
In the SEOmoz tools I am getting multiple errors for duplicate page content and duplicate page titles for one section on my site. When I check to see which page has the duplicate title/content the url listed is exactly the same. All sections are set up the same, so any ideas on why I would be getting duplication errors in just this one section and why they would say the errors are on the same page (when I only have one copy uploaded on the server)?

How to find highest PR pages by search term?
is there a search operator in google to sort by highest PR, or an alternate search engine (besides Google directory) to find high PR sites by keyword? I am sending free product out to webmasters to use as a giveaway for their audience, and would like to find the highest PR sites/pages to partner with. I want the highest SEO value out of the products I send out. I'm trying to find outdoor sports related sites, etc, which have done contests/giveaways in the past and linked well to the supplier of the prize. I've been just googling phrases like "backpack giveaway", etc. and this has worked ok, but I'd like to find a tool to search for the highest PR sites around each of the phrases.
