Linking without loosing link equity.
-
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had a solution to linking without loosing link equity?
From what I have read using 'no follow' on both internal and external links DOES NOT pass any equity across the link to the link target, but also, the latest thought goes that it DOES loose link equity (as if it were a FOLLOW' link).
So is there a method of retaining link equity using another method?
Thanks

As @keri has said, it would be a little odd to do it to all external or indeed internal links. (the later of which would be better suited to having no-index tags on them rather than being no-followed).
In terms of your question, it maybe better phrased as "how can i keep all the link juice and never let it go" ... many people have that question, but it's not a good idea to try and keep link juice / equity.
If you did as you suggest and have all links externally no followed then search engines will see it as some kind of manipulation and if done on a large scale will ignore that command and potentially others across your website. Search engines, like Google, don't look very nicely on manipulation and beyond ignoring your commands you may end up with a penalty.
Search engines look for rounded websites which are both linked to and from, such that they are part of the community and not a silo.

It would be for just some links not all.
For example in my main navigation I have a 'shop' which is run as an affiliate on a subdomain of the affiliate website. As its in the primary nav, its on every page of the website, so in theory it will be passing an awful lot of link equity.
Currently I have got the link as 'no follow' but from what I have read, although no link equity is passed to the site, my website is still loosing that equity as if it were a normal link.
Thanks

Wouldn't it look a tad odd to the search engines to have a site that didn't like out? Are you trying to do this for all of your links, or just some? Can you give a little more background to your question?

Obfuscated javascript linking currently still works.
One O in losing by the way

HTTPS Migration & Preserving Link Equity
Hey All — I’m working with a site that is migrating to HTTPS and had a couple questions. I read Moz’s ‘SEO Tips & Tricks for HTTPS’ post but want some clarification on a couple items. Aside from using https canonicals... 1. What is the best way to preserve link equity from inbound links? Site wide 301 Redirect in .htacess? 2. What is the best way to redirect internal links from http to https? The site uses absolute internal links. THX!

Links from the same server has value or not
Hi Guys, Sometime ago one of the SEO experts said to me if I get links from the same IP address, Google doesn't count them as with much value. For an example, I am a web devleoper and I host all my clients websites on one server and link them back to me. Im wondering whether those links have any value when it comes to seo or should I consider getting different hosting providers? Regards Uds

Linking out?
First of all, sorry this Q is all in one block, but iPads don't like this site or vc/vs. When using the SEOmoz on-site keyword optimizer tool, it suggests at least one link to be to an off-site page. Would it be considered a link exchange if we linked out to an niche SUPER Authority sit that had a link back to our website? It seems like a naturally good strategy, but I'm afraid google may not agree. If the answer is no, there are many similar sites that mention our company in ver good ways, awards, etc.., but with no links. I would think this is a no-brainer. Personally I would like to eventually harvest all this press coverage to benefit our site. Btw, I was grey before I learned about SEOmoz, just like the rest of our niche. Now I'm shooting to be Snow White! Hopefully it works out. 🙂 I also wrote two landing pages that I tried to SEO the right way. I would love to hear your feedback to know if they are truly effective and if they are actually white. I think they are, but don't know "all" the rules of being white http://jamproa.com/ideology/product-innovation.php http://jamproa.com/industrial-design/what-is.php Thanks!
