Why is my client ranking no.3 for a competitive keyword?
-
Hey guys,
I'm doing a bit of detective work and I'm trying to understand why my client is ranking no.3 for the keyword "office desks" on google.ie.
The strange thing about this is that 'office desks' is not in the
1. title tag
2. url
3. h1 tag
4. anchor text of the internal links
5. anchor text of the external links
'Office furniture' however is the optimised keyword here however this appearing no. 35 in SERPs for the same url.
Any ideas what this might be?
Regards
Rob

Thanks Aleyda. I think your right. Interesting all the same. Perhaps I should insert office desks in to the title and see what happens.
Thanks

Hi there,
I've checked your ranking with a non-personalized result and I see your website is ranking with this specific page: www.office1web.ie/office-furniture that has in its title both the Office and Desks keywords:
"Office Furniture** | Desks and Desking | Tables at Office1web.ie**"
As you can also see in this screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/tuMZvCKku
Additionally, although the page content is targeting the "Office Furniture" keyword is also featuring information about Office Desks which mixed with any potential incoming external or internal links with this anchor text and the overall popularity of this specific page (along with the relatively low competition that you can verify with the domain popularity and page popularity of the other ranking pages) could positively influence its rankings for this query.
I hope this helps!
Aleyda

Thanks Jesse. It is a bit of an eye opener and you might be right.
Would be interested in second opinion if anybody's can garner another reason or back up Jesse's?
cheers

my apologies! early monday morning here and my blurry eyes didn't catch the irish engine.. oops
anyway, my guess would be that "office desks" simply has less competition as a keyword in google.ie... one page in from the linked page has a paragraph that reads as follows:
Desks
In the working environment, the desk is a key element. If you want happy workers then make sure they have the right office desks – ones that are comfortable to sit at all day and which are practical for the work performed at them. At Office 1 Web we have a huge range of office desks to suit your needs. Office desks range from the minimalist and modern to the executive and formal – check out the full range to see which ones are right for your office. There are a huge amount of office desks to choose from, so we have broken it down into handy categories to help you find the right office desk for you:
That page is clearly optimized for the word "Office Desks" and could very easily be pulling weight from the other referring page, especially seeing as how there are something like 947 internal links there..? I could be off on that. Sorry not spending a ton of time looking at it.
I'm not sure I'm being helpful. I'm going to go grab some more coffee and see if I can't get my eyes and mind to awaken.
Good luck!

Hi Jessie,
Thanks for your response.
The client is www.office1web.ie/
I have cleared my cache and have been searching incognito but no change.
It should be searched on the .ie engine so try this link to see what I mean.

Rob

which one is your client?
when I google "office desks" i get
1.) office depot
2.) amazon
3.) office max
Try a de-personalized search, I think your cache is affecting your google results.
Check this link and tell me what you see: https://www.google.com/search?q=office+desks&pws=0

Google not giving ranking to the intended page of my website.
Hello friends, This is my very first question, I hope I will explain my issue correctly. I have created two pages related to SSC CGL keyword on my website: https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-notification-exam-date 2) https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-apply-online I want to target the keyword SSC CGL Apply Online on the 2nd URL but Google is only considering the 1st page for all the "apply" related keywords as well. Can anyone suggest to me how to get the second page in rankings for its intended keywords? I will be very thankful for this help. I tried adding image but its showing dummy. Please you can check it op GOOGLE SERP Second page

Google smacked my site and dropped all rankings, can't find out why
I have checked out everything, I mean everything. We have no dupe content, our content is a little thin, but it is ours and accurate enough to help our customers. We follow all SEO guidelines and make sure we de-index any pages with no / little content (like privacy, or faq) All in all, we haven't done any major updates to the sites, and everything was great (page one on almost all kw) but beginning of the month, all kw wiped to the second page, than third, than back to one and now pretty much gone (rank 100-200) I really don't know what to do. We didn't receive a manual action, and the last algo update was nothing big to cause such a drastic change. Meanwhile our competition (multiple sites) are gaining in ranks and nothing happened to them (most of them have even less content and not even SSL) Negative SEO is out of question, I check all links via ahrefs every other day. Any help is appreciated Thanks

GWMT - "Tag Site For Child Directed Treatment" Effect On Search / Rankings?
Hi All, We have a client who has been directed to tag their site for "Child Directed Treatment" in Webmaster tools to comply with AdExchange policies. The site is, generally speaking, directed at those between the ages of 13 and 16 along with their parents, but does NOT collect any data (No sign in, login, signups etc). You can find out more about the specific tag here (unfortunately not much more about it) https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/3221080?hl=en Our concern is that we have never heard of this specific tag, and our client is asking us to let them know if that this will have no effect on search traffic or ranking. I can't find much in the way of anyone who HAS implemented this tag and the effects it has had on their site. They are ad supported, receive millions of unique hits a month, and the majority of their traffic is from branded keywords. Would love to hear from anyone with ANY experience or thoughts on this process and what to be aware of. Your assistance is muchly appreciated.

Noticed Bing UK and Yahoo UK are almost exactly the same ranking results?
I've run a few keyword ranking updates today and I've noticed that Bing UK and Yahoo UK results are almost exactly the same? This is unusual, the results for these two engines rarely tally with one another. Is anyone seeing the same?

Ranking Problem (my most important Q so far on here)
Hi, I have a keyword which is location specific and without any work doing to it, it ranked page 4 position 7. I did 4 guest posts all in one go and the it moved to page 3 position 5, I then left it for a week (position didn't move) and did another guest post a day after the guest post had been indexed I lost rankings and moved back to page 4, position 4. Has anyone got an idea why this happened? Is it a case its just fluxing and I could see in a few days it come back to page 3 position 2 or do you think I got an initial boost because the guest posts all went up and its just a fluke that it dropped when the 5th one went up? This is a big deal for me because I rely on guest posting a lot, I've even got a copy writer pumping out 500 quids worth of content a month just for guest blogging. I need to understand what is happening, this is one of the most important questions so far on here so I would appreciate some talk on the matter.

Is there a way to track the history of keyword search over time. I.E. the frequency of the Google search of the phrase 'unpasteurized milk' from 2006-2012 to see trending patterns.
