Google Published Date - Does Google Lie?
-
Here's the scenario.
I create a page called "ABC" and it gets published and found by Google lets say on the 13th of April.
on the 15th (or 14th) i decide to update the URL, page Title, and content. (Redirect old URL to new URL as well)
Will Google still show this page as being published on the 13th? or would it update the publish date according to the new URL?

Thanks Matt,
That's cleared it up.
I was always under the assumption that the publish date displayed in the serps was the date it was found and indexed.
Thanks again,
Greg

Actually, articles can have the wrong publication date: http://support.google.com/news/publisher/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=70871
Google News follows this <publication_date>so if that's wrong, chances are you could write an article now and "have it published" 2 days earlier, no sweat. </publication_date>
The source code for the page you linked clearly had two:
class_="publish">Published Monday, April 15, 2013_
class_="publish">_Published Saturday, April 13, 2013
Somehow Google picked up on the earlier date, probably an error, figured the second date was an "article edited" date and kept the first publish date since they aren't using the Google News format.

Thanks Mat,
I'm still not 100% clear on this.
Were it says "published 3 days ago" in the search results. Is this the date that google first found the page? Or does google get this from the published date set in the article?
Example: If i publish an article today, and say it was published in 2010 will Google display "Published 3 years ago" ? Or would it show the date Google first found the page?

It's been changed on the page.
Look carefully at the "cached" page - it says Monday the 15th pretty clearly and there's some code on the page. When the story was updated, it has been put onto the wrong date.
But the original shows up on the cache still -verify for yourself while it's still this way.

Canonical error from Google
Moz couldn't explain this properly and I don't understand how to fix it. Google emailed this morning saying "Alternate page with proper canonical tag." Moz also kinda complains about the main URL and the main URL/index.html being duplicate. Of course they are. The main URL doesn't work without the index.html page. What am I missing? How can I fix this to eliminate this duplicate problem which to me isn't a problem?

Not all images indexed in Google
Hi all, Recently, got an unusual issue with images in Google index. We have more than 1,500 images in our sitemap, but according to Search Console only 273 of those are indexed. If I check Google image search directly, I find more images in index, but still not all of them. For example this post has 28 images and only 17 are indexed in Google image. This is happening to other posts as well. Checked all possible reasons (missing alt, image as background, file size, fetch and render in Search Console), but none of these are relevant in our case. So, everything looks fine, but not all images are in index. Any ideas on this issue? Your feedback is much appreciated, thanks

Google Search Console - Sitemap
Hi all, Quick question. I'm trying to update my sitemap via Google Search Console using a sitemap.xml file that I've created with ScreamingFrog. However, when trying to submit it, it seems that Google only allows sitemaps that are located at a path within your domain (i.e. www.example.com/sitemap.xml) as opposed to being able to directly upload a sitemap.xml file.Is there any way that I can easily upload my sitemap.xml file? Or is there any easy way that I can upload the file to a path on my domain so I can upload via the URL?Any insight would be much appreciated!Best,Sung

Google Sitemap - How Long Does it Take Google To Index?
We have changed our sitemap about 1 month ago and Google is yet to index it. We have run a site: search and we still have many pages indexed but we are wondering how long does it take for google to index our sitemap? The last sitemap we put up had thousands of pages indexed within a fortnight, but for some reason this version is taking way longer. We are also confident that there are no errors in this version. Help!
