Did Profiles on SEOmoz get de-indexed?
-
Hi fellow mozzers
My profile page on SEOmoz has always ranked well for my full name "Jacob Eeckhout". Recently I noticed that it doesn't show anymore, even for the query site:seomoz.org "jacob eeckhout".
Does anyone know what happened?
-
Thanks for the update - I just went and noticed that your Moz profile is back here as well. Amazingly, it definitely seems like they are giving their own page more weight despite the other being obviously older. Copies are copies - and they don't want it.
Good to know! (Glad it worked!)

Update April 22nd : After I've written a unique bio on my SEOmoz profile page, it ranks #6 again, just below my Google+ page. Seems Google might be getting stricter on duplicated content. Thanks for the insights Matt and Keri.

Pondering over your insights Matt.
If Google dropped my SEOmoz profile page because of the copied bio text, it's interesting Google dropped SEOmoz. This is the original source where this text was first published, back in 2010. Did Google (ab)use its power to overrule the original source and favor its own Google+ ?
-
Hi Keri
I will keep you updated. Just updated my profile with a new bio text + blog bio. I'll monitor the trend.
-
Keep us posted, it'll be interesting to see if that changes things. We haven't done anything to profiles on this end that I'm aware of.
-
Thanks a lot Matt. Great logical insights. As you stated, maybe this unveils Google's improved content duplication skills. I'll rewrite the content on this page and see what happens.

Actually a quick search for me and another top 50 user both come up on Google. I did a search on another user with about the same number of points as you and it's not that either as they showed up. You're the only one I can't find.
This is just a guess but your Google+ profile uses the same exact matching text as your Moz profile. It could be that Google (finally) sees them as duplicates?
Do a search for "I eat, breath and sleep digital marketing at iValue. The online revolution offers so many opportunities to small and medium sized business, I've found my calling. It's helping organizations grow and achieve goals online. Online is life and life is online to me. The availability of data, stats, trends, insights and human behavior thrills me. Online is more than websites; it’s about people, business, brands, interaction, information, search, advertising, social sharing, broadcasting"
It's just a guess but you have two similar profiles with the same name... that would be my first start - changing the text on one or other.

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

How do I get our full domain link profile?
With Open Site Explorer I have exported our domain link profile but I only get 65 domains returned when our marketing software reports that we have 315 . . . I know that some domains point to www.bluelink.ca which redirects to www.bluelinkerp.com. Is Open Site Explorer missing these links?

Does SEOMoz ever work?
Hi, I've signed up for the free 30 day trial and I'm on the edge of not actually subscribing to the service. I go through the Q & A boards which I find really interesting and hope I can add value there in the future, but the tools interest me more (and this is where the issue lies. Do they ever work? The Keyword difficulty tool just constantly says to come back in 20 minutes and I don't think the Rank Tracker has worked for at least half my freebie 30 days. Have the tools always been this flaky or is it a blip?

Google Hiding Indexed Pages from SERPS?
Trying to troubleshoot an issue with one of our websites and noticed a weird discrepancy. Our site should only have 3 pages in the index. The main landing page with a contact form and two policy pages, yet google reports over 1,100 pages (that part is not a mystery, I know where they are coming from.....multi site installations of popular CMS's leave much to be desired in actually separating websites) Here is a screen shot showing the results of the site command: http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2jing/oseh I have set my search settings to show 100 (the max number of results) results per page. Everything is fine until I get to page three where I get the standard "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 122 already displayed." But wait a second, I clicked on page three, now there are only two pages of results and the number of results reported has dropped to 122 http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2jing/r8c9 When I click on the "show omitted results" I do get some more results, and the returned results jumps back up to 1,100. However I only get three pages of results. And when I click on the last page the number of results returned changes to 205 http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2jing/jd4h Is this a difference between indexes (same thing happens when I turn instant search back on, Shows over 1,100 results but when I get to the last page of results it changes to 205). Any other way of getting this info? I am trying to go in and identify how these pages are being generated, but I have to know what ones are showing up in the index for that to happen. Only being able to access 1/5th of the pages indexed is not cool. Anyone have any idea about this or experience with it? For reference I was going through with SEOmoz's excellent toolbar and exporting the results to csv (using the Mozilla plugin). I guess google doesn't like people doing that so maybe this is a way to protect against scraping by only showing limited results in the Site: command. Thanks!

Question regarding the SEOmoz Report Card
A report card is directed towards one keyword. What if one is to target two keywords on one page? For example, if I want to target SEO in Miami, Miami SEO, and SEO Miami it would be impossible to get an "A" on the report card for all three. What is the best way to target two-three keys on one page? Lets say these keywords are equally beneficial to the site, and we do not want to have to use hierarchy for one key over the other. Would it be wise to build a page for each? I feel like that would be redundant to the user. It says I need the keyword 4 times in the body so I should have 4 "SEO Miami" and 4 "Miami SEO". High importance factors. What makes them high importance? The keyword should be in the beginning of the title. How does this make sense as a high importance factor. Many titles are going to sound spammy if this is how they are written. Lets use Miami SEO again as an example: Miami SEO from [company name] bla bla bla sounds like spam. Learn about SEO in Miami from [company name] sound much better and is probably more likely to get clicked on. How important are these High Importance factors? I was always under the impression that we build the site for the user however the report card changes that perspective.

How does SEOMoz crawl sites? Does it follow the sitemap?
I only ask because in my report it returned a few "no follow" links. Was wondering how SEOMoz operates.

Has SEOMoz Domain Authority calc been updated recently
As ever, my apologies if this question's been asked before -- I searched for it, and didn't find it. But, our SEOMoz 'Domain Authority' has recently really jumped (from 67, where it was for many months, to 77). And, our number of Linking Root Domains increased as well, from 1,986 to 3,349) Of course, none of this has translated into Google goodness, but if any of it's true, maybe it WILL in the future? Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks, Dave (www.TeachStreet.com)
