How do you hire an SEOmoz-savvy SEO consultant?
-
I'd like to find an SEO free-lancer to review WikiTree.com and give me ongoing advice. My first instinct would be to go through oDesk, but I know I want someone who is tuned-in to this community and uses SEOmoz's tools. Advice or recommendations? Thanks!
-
Hi Chris,
It all depends on your budget - you're likely to find resources on oDesk that will give you far lower quotes than you'll receive from the higher profile members of the SEOMoz community. Having said that, I've yet to find anyone over there who really knows what they're doing with SEO (although I'm sure there are people, just not in the usual $3/hr price bracket).
If you're looking for help from a Mozzer I'd advise contacting a few people who post on the QA forum or comment on blogs and asking them to spend a few minutes doing a high level review of your site. If you like what you hear start to explore the option of putting them on a monthly retainer / day rate and work out some outline costs.
(Self promotion alert): I'd be more than happy to help out - just drop me an email / tweet / contact form from my site.

What Keeps In-House SEOs Up @ Night
We are writing a research summary piece on in-house seo strategies. We're not trying to solve the worlds problems - we simply want to know what problems you face and how you try and solve them. We've broken our research into three key areas (training, value, and measurement). We would greatly appreciate your insights, thoughts, and recommendations. We will share our final paper (with sources) when completed. Here are the questions we're asking: How do you train and support your seo team? How do you show SEO value in the wake of Google algo changes including (keyword not provided)? How can SEO show value to other parts of the organization including market research, product managers, channel managers, etc? What should you be measuring and who should reports go to? SEO Service Needed
Any suggestion about hiring an SEO individual? Primary focus will be proper link/relationship building. What questions would you ask them? What is a fair compensation method? Can the compensation be based on results vs. effort? Thank you, Joe

SEO Agency Sabotage?
Here's a strange one ... We have a customer that has done remarkably well with organic SEO for the better part of 8 years. We've made them tons of money with our SEO techniques. About a year ago they started to get calls from a certain SEO firm warning that they were losing landing pages and keywords by the hundreds each month. Revenue continued to rise so they did not think much of it. Either did we. My customer finally relented and hired them for some limited SEO activites in Jan/Feb of this year - unbeknownst to me. The "other company" assembled some stats to demonstrate the drop in organic rankings, landing pages, keywords, and traffic going back about year. This data was matched to correlate with variuos Google updates and designed to scare the customer. Long story short and my question - has anyone ever heard of an SEO company sabotaging a potential customer so they would hire them? We ran analysis and turns out our customer actually gained landing pages and keywords while this company was calling on them and claiming impending doom. Turns out, since my customer brought them on, the numbers have gone way south. Now, we look like the incompetent boobs and they will likely "fix something" to look like rock stars. They claimed that the Penguin update is what killed the site, but the slippage started before Penguin, huh? It would make sense to call on a prospect for a while, warn of bad stuff about to happen, make something bad happen and then say, "I told you so, hire me". Has anyone ever hear of this? If so, any particular tactic I should look for?

What are some good organizations an SEO company can join that are strong trust signals?
We are working on a website redesign, and want to prominently include some trust signals that help people feel comfortable with us. We're including logos of a few places we've guest posted, and also the BBB and local chamber of commerce. Do you have any other ideas on logos we can include that are good trust signals? Any associations or organizations we could join? We are a trustworthy company, we just want a way to communicate that visually, and it seems organization seals and logos are the way to go. Thanks!

Seo is dead?
Hi there, I see a lot of conversations about the term "seo is dead" because some people speak that seo are dead because of google plus and facebook. Is it true? What do you think? What do you think that is the future of our business? We will stay uneployed or we still continue to work? Me personally I hate facebook. Is just so much stupid (like most of people, I guess thats why is so popular) but what about google plus? Is a serious and worthy social profile. This will kill us? I read in SEL or SEW ,I dont remember which of them that this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farhad_Manjoo said that seo is dead and some are even supporting him. Also he said that "Google just broke its search engine" with the creation of Google plus. Me I think search msrketing, seo will live for long time yet,Me personally and my friends NEVER EVER CLICK on Facebook ads(if we do it , is just curiosity, and after we never visit again that page, this guys what I was reading their articles before they said that they see a lot of traffick from facebook.me also but the taffic from facebook dont do nothing, even in adsense they dont click on my sites, not to convert to buyers).I have 20 close friends and none of them cares what kind of content they find from facebook. Is our mentality (I am from CYprus)? Or is just a fact? That facebook ads are just some crap? Or general the acebook is a crap?Me i think that is.Is made for some people who are boaring and need something to kill time.so the traffick what you get is some boaring people who dont care about nothing, just some more things to watch and comment with their friends. So practically you have them on the site and after BAM, new hot site so bye bye.Never visit again your site. Why is so much importand?Their likes etc?The difference with google adsense is that all from our company are clicking on the ads and on the results. (much more on the results, because we think that is the best.Including me that I know that SERP can be manipulated. But we still prefer that. Why all speak about that SEO are dead? Are paid from facebook? WTF? Why I never hear somebody from SEOMOZ to say this?My result is that they are some bunch of I@@@TS and they dont know what they speak or are on the other side.I am sorry for my bad english but like this I can express my fealings. If you dont understand something please ask.

Managing SEO Partners
Hi, Up until yesterday my main role was to implement & create SEO strategies and analytics for varying clients, and our own agency. Going forward I have been tasked with sourcing and managing SEO partners for our existing and future clients. This is totally a new concept for me, and I was wondering if any mozzers out there have been tasked with similar roles and could give me some ideas on what questions I should be asking, or maybe have an SEO matrix to rank agencies to help match to clients? Your help as always is greatly appreciated. Many thanks Sean
