Anyone with Forums experience + adsense
-
An opportunity has been presented to me to be able to host a forum for a semi popular celebrity. Very excited about that
I have never had a very forum and would like to know what kinds of experienced has anyone had with a popular forum
From what I hear if you can have a popular forum its pretty much a cash cow (adsense) especially if its reputable and is a great long term thing, because of returning visitors and the loyalty you establish with the users.
- Anyone in this boat who can shed some light for me?
- What should I expect?
- Best software/themes for this for user-ability as well as adsense?

Hi Cesar,
I run a forum with over 30k threads, 187k posts, and just south of 92k members, and from my experience (good/bad), find a hosting company that specializes in hosting forums. Yes, there are companies that cater to forum hosting and forum maintenance. You should expect to pay a premium for the service, but it's well worth the seed investment, especially if you are planning to monetize the traffic long-term. Plan on isolating the forum from any other websites you might want to host on the same server (dedicated or virtual), as this will keep issues to a minimum.
Also, pick a forum software that has regular updates, patches, and access to active supporting members of that software. Going with a free forum software is not always so attractive, when issues arise. Some issues include corrupt databases, hacks, and forum membership difficulties. The company I host my forum with today even assisted me with exporting, transferring, and reconnecting my very large MySQL database.
So, hosting a Forum is just a bit different than a Wordpress website, but if you take care of the upfront investment, things will work out just fine for you. Good luck with celebrity and let us know who it is, when you can announce
Suggestions, as you have requested:
- Forum Software: http://www.vbulletin.com
- Forum Themes: There are lots to pick from, but you might look into a custom theme for your celebrity.
- Forum AdSense: I've hand coded Adsense into the include file, to keep it simple and clean. Similar to Wordpress, there are plugins that make it easy for vbulletin ad placement too.
- Forum Hosting: Private message me and I'll make a suggestion.

Has anyone transferred a site from WordPress to Webflow?
We're thinking about making the move, but I'm (mildly) concerned about SEO implications.

Has anyone added Structured Data Markup Server Side?
I want to add some structured data to our companies website via microdata through schema.org. I have been asked to gather all of the requirements so that it can be done server side and automated when things change. I honestly don't know where to begin as there are many areas where it can be added. Has anyone done this server side before?

Is anyone using Humans.txt in your websites? What do you think?
http://humanstxt.org Anyone using this on their websites and if so have you seen and positive benefits of doing so? Would be good to see some examples of sites using it and potentially how you're using the files. I'm considering adding this to my checklist for launching sites

WordPress not man enough...has anybody got experience working with Pryo CMS?
Hey folks I'm working with a small team on putting together a new niche accommodation / holiday search portal here in the UK. We are most likely using PHP / MySQL technology for the site - I am a huge fan of WordPress but not sure its quite man enough for the task (many option search over 10,000 plus properties). We can't afford to pay for a bespoke development, so off-the shelf CMS is the most likely route for release 1, and from what I've been reading Pyro CMS seems a good open source choice... https://www.pyrocms.com/ Has anybody come across this, or know how good it is with regards to on-site SEO? Or maybe WordPress is up to the task? If not, what are other good open source options for sites focused around a search function? Cheers Simon

There is a <figure>element that is supposed to provide better descriptions of image on the web in HTML5 - do you think that will replace the importance of the "Alt" tag? Link to figcaption description </figure>

Has Anyone Had Issues With ASP.NET 4.0 URL Routing?
I'm seeing some odd results in my SEOMOZ results with a new site I just released that is using the ASP.NET 4.0 URL routing. I am seeing thousands(!) of duplicate results, for instance, because the crawl has uncovered something like this: http://www.mysite.com/
Web Design | | TroyCarlson
http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx (so far, so good, though I wish it wouldn't show both)
http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx/about/ (what the heck -?)
http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx/about/about/ (WTF!?)
http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx/about/about/products/ (and on and on ad infinitum) I'm also seeing problems pop up in my sitemap because extensionless urls have an odd "eurl.axd/abunchofnumbersgohere" appended to the end of every address which is breaking links. sigh Buyer beware. I've found articles that discuss the "eurl.axd" issue here and there (this one seems very good), but nothing about the weird crawl issue I outlined above. Any advice?0 -
What have your experiences with rankings after a redesign?
Hi, I am looking to get a site of mine a much needed redesign and was wondering what other peoples experiences have been with rankings in Google after the new site has gone live. It will be converted from html/css design to a PHP based CMS with added functionality such as filtering, sorting etc. I'm aware of some of the preventative measures that can be done to prevent loss of rankings (e.g. 301 redirects) but are there any others and in your experiences have they been successful preventing the site dropping out of favor or losing rankings? Kind regards Rosh
