Link Building
-
We have just recently launched a new website in Australia and as l am new to the SEO community, l was looking for a little advice on link building.
Where is best to start? There are not many authorative websites for our industry. Are there specific websites that are good to link to? Are there any good tools to assist with this?
Any help would be great. Thank you.

Thank you Tom

Thank you for that John. I've noticed that some of our competitors that rank high in the organic searches link with sites that have a high DA but low PA and visa versa. Which is better to target and what is classed as high?

Thank you Julian.

Hi Robert
Are there any broader fields that your industry could fall under?
It's perfectly fine to offer content on topics partially related to your site if they offer some great user value. For instance, your website may offer horse trailers (it just came into my head) - but your expertise may include small business management and how to manage accounts, logistics and how to ensure multiple deliveries reach their destination on time and so on. If you can write on these topics and offer a unique take on things, you could get other websites to link to you.
So you can think outside the box, as it were. Also, if you haven't claimed your local listings, that's a good place to start. Enter your URL to getlisted.org.
And I thoroughly recommend having a look at Jon Cooper's link building tactics. There's a great compendium here that you can filter on things like time and resource, as well as this series on the most creative link building examples you will find.

Hi Robert,
Firstly and most importantly ,do not get some automated tool to do this for you ,as tempting as it might be .. as reassuring as some of these software's sales pitch is, do not use them !!!!
Second thing, one good link (from an authority) is worth 20 low level links ... So focus on quality as opposed to quantity,
Build links that are related to your community, for example if you resell a service or products ,ask your supplier to link your website, try and get linked off any authorities within your industry (I know you mentioned there aren't that many but they would be worth a lot more than any low level links.)
Have quality content on your website (you never mentioned what type of website you built), have content that people would want to share, make it interesting, relevant, make it content people would want to share.
List your business on Google places, this will help immensely with local searches.
There are some high quality directories you can list your website on, they mostly charge, its really down to what you're budget is. It really depends on your business, but I and plenty have ranked websites well without having to pay a fortune out.
Start building your social presence, really important now, get people liking your content, get them building your links for you, try and build a community around your website ....
That should help you for a start, its not easy so don't expect it to be, but if you do it correctly at the beginning ... you should reap the rewards in the future (yes cliche but true).
Regards
John

Breadcrumbs versus in context link
Hi, I remember reading that links within the text have more value than breadcrumbs links for example because in context links are surrounded by the right content (words) but google search engine optimisation starter guide says breadcrumbs are good, so which one is recommended ? Thank you,

How would you build links to this page?
Hi i have ecommerce store and currently we are looking to build links to category pages like: http://www.theiconic.com.au/womens-clothing-dresses-party-dresses/ What are some natural ways to build links to a page like this? Our SEO agency has done guest posting and forums but these are not natural link building methods and against Google policy. Any suggestions on how to build natural links to these pages? Cheers.

Hammered by Spam links
When we moved from one host to another in Wordpress engine, we had this insertion weird redirect thing happen. We 410'd the page cgi-sys/movingpage.cgi, but it hit us hard in the anchors. If you go to ahrefs, we are literally all Asian in anchors text. Anybody have any suggestions, thank goodness it looks like it finally stopped. I am looking for creative ways to repopulate our back end with the right stuff. Any thoughts would be great! Heres a example: allartalocaltours.com/tumi-tote-401.html ↳customerbloom.com/cgi-sys/movingpage.cgi ↳www.customerbloom.com/cgi-sys/movingpage.cgi ↳lockwww.customerbloom.com/cgi-sys/movingpage.cgi

Spammy Inbound Links
Hello, We have been using Zendesk to manage our customer support tickets for approx 2 years. We recently noticed that the attached forum had lot's of spam comments attached to it. Promoting Viagra and the like. The system was installed as a subdomain of my site support.mysite.com We have since deleted our account with Zendesk but Moz and Google are reporting loads of inbound links to that subdomain that are all total spam with Viagra in the anchor text etc. The subdomain no longer exists and now throws a 404. Can these links still hurt me? Is there other steps I need to take? I have disavowed all the links.

2015 Disavow Links on Bing?
In years past I was told not to disavow links in Bing unless the site had an issue. This was driven home when a site we were working on disavowed the links in google and saw the site recover after a few months, then when they disavowed the same links in Bing and the rankings dropped 20% over the next few months. The reasoning was that Bing was looking more at the qty of links, and didn't analyze links the way Google does. So even though you might disavow links in Google you might not want to disavow those same links in Bing. Does this still hold true in 2015? I want to get the community's opinion on this topic, should the same links be disavowed in Bing that are disavowed in Google? Why or why not?

Cross linking between categories
Is it useful for SEO to cross link between TOP level categories, let's say I have a Home page and then 2 sub categories, one about green widgets one about red widgets

Should i create a link from the green widget to the red widget or should I leave those are separate silos ? I know that within a silo i need to cross link ( from green widget 1 to green widget 2 etc... ) but how about about from the main category to the other main category ?0 -
Link Building for "State" informational pages
I have a webpage for all 50 states for specific info relating to relocation and was wondering if there are any recommended links to work at getting for these pages. I would like to do "state" specific and possibly health related links for each page to help in the SEO rankings. I can see that if I just wanted to get 10 links on each page that is going to be 500 links I have to build and it is going to be very time consuming but I feel it is necessary. Thank you, Poo
