Hi

We need to block some www1-pages from being indexed. Now IT has resolved this but pages like http://www1.swisscom.ch/fr/business/pme.html return a 405 status instead of a 404. The pages are currently still indexed in Google. Must the status be changed to 404 or should I just wait and see if Google de-indexes them anyhow?

Hmm, this might actually be a non-issue. I used http://tools.seobook.com/server-header-checker/, but if I check it with Firebug it correctly returns a 404...

Weird 404 errors in Webmaster Tools

Hi, In a regular check with Webmaster Tools, I have noticed some weird 404 errors, for example, my domain URL is something like http://domainname.com/, the 404 error points to some weird URLs like http://domainname.com/james-bond&page=2/ and http://domainname.com/juegos-de&page=3/, at first I have tried to block them by robots.txt, but now I am getting these kind of 404 errors a lot, and don't think blocking them all is a perfect solution. Can anyone help me out with the issue? Thank you in advance.

Sitemap.gz is being indexed and is showing up in SERP instead of actual pages.

Sitemap.gz is being indexed and is showing up in SERP instead of actual pages. I recently uploaded my sitemap file - https://psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap-index.xml - via Search Console. The only record within the XML file is sitemaps.gz. When I searched for some content on my site - here is the search https://goo.gl/mqxBeq - I was shown the following search result, indicating that our GZ file is getting indexed instead of our pages. http://www.psglearning.com/catalog 1 http://www.psglearning.com ...www.psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap.gz... 1 https://www.psglearning.com/catalog/productdetails/9781284059656/ 1 https://www.psglearning.com/catalog/productdetails/9781284060454/ 1 ... My sitemap is listed at https://psglearning.com/sitemapcustom/sitemap-index.xml inside the sitemap the only reference is to sitemap.gz. 404 or rel="canonical" for empty search results?

We have search on our site, using the URL, so we might have: example.com/location-1/service-1, or example.com/location-2/service-2. Since we're a directory we want these pages to rank. Sometimes, there are no search results for a particular location/service combo, and when that happens we show an advanced search form that lets the user choose another location, or expand the search area, or otherwise help themselves. However, that search form still appears at the URL example.com/location/service - so there are several location/service combos on our website that show that particular form, leading to duplicate content issues. We may have search results to display on these pages in the future, so we want to keep them around, and would like Google to look at them and even index them if that happens, so what's the best option here? Should we rel="canonical" the page to the example.com/search (where the search form usually resides)? Should we serve the search form page with an HTTP 404 header? Something else? I look forward to the discussion.

Unexplainable 404 in my Wordpress Monitor

Hi Guys, We started a new website (far from complete) and i'm fixing some SEO problems. I have a SEO 404 monitor plugin and he gives me strange 404's that i can't find: https://compleetverkleed.nl/feestkleding/www.compleetverkleed.nl/feestkleding

When i check my original page, for example https://compleetverkleed.nl/rode-peper-pak/ there is only 1 internal link to /feestkleding but when i click on it, it works fine. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or where to look to see why this is happening? (it happens on every page, not the 4 above > starting to come through in webmastertools also) 2.

Google showing https:// page in search results but directing to http:// page

We're a bit confused as to why Google shows a secure page https:// URL in the results for some of our pages. This includes our homepage. But when you click through it isn't taking you to the https:// page, just the normal unsecured page. This isn't happening for all of our results, most of our deeper content results are not showing as https://. I thought this might have something to do with Google conducting searches behind secure pages now, but this problem doesn't seem to affect other sites and our competitors. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how we get around it?

Moz showing 404 error on one of my sites

I have a problem. Everything seems to be ok, but moz shows a HTTP code of 404 for http://www.centralevapeurguide.com and I don't really know why. All my others websites return 200 but this one return 404. And obviously, only this website don't want to rank in google.. Thanks for your help. Sebastian

Webmaster Index Status - Not Selected > Ever Crawled

Hi Mozzers, I would like to keep it short, while checking the Index Status in my Google webmaster tools, I noticed that the number of URLs "Not Selected" is more than the no. of URLs under "Ever Crawled" the difference is also a large no, a 5 no. figure. Does anyone seen a similar pattern or any insights on this would be quite helpful. Cheers,
