Trackback Redirects
-
My wordpress blog/theme displays a Trackback URL link in the comments area of any page that has received a comment, eg http://guitarkitbuilder.com/build-your-own-clone-digital-echo-ping-pong-kit/#comment-2408
My crawl diagnostics report shows these links (basically domain.com/post-name/trackback) as Temporary Redirect warnings 302 with the stock advice "Using HTTP header refreshes, 302, 303 or 307 redirects will cause search engine crawlers to treat the redirect as temporary and not pass any link juice (ranking power). We highly recommend that you replace temporary redirects with 301 redirects."
Before I take more action on this I want to make sure this is a real problem. My initial effort to fix it was to turn off trackbacks in the wordpress settings-discussion area and also on specific posts, but the Trackback URL link still shows for any post with a comment.
Any advice?

OK never mind, I found a redirect checker and it says 301 so I guess that's good. I still don't really get why it's useful to anyone to have this link in the comments area.

Takeshi,
First, thanks, I made the change. Other than waiting for my next Moz crawl to see if the warnings go away, how can I test that this works?

That is a weird quirk of Wordpress. It's a poor design on their choice, but it does cost you a little bit of link juice since 302 redirects don't pass link value.
It's not a huge deal, but if you want to fix it you can update the code in wp-trackback.php. Just change the following line:
wp_redirect(get_permalink($tb_id));
to:
wp_redirect(get_permalink($tb_id),301);
That'll change the 302 redirect to a 301.

Backlink Redirection as Backlink Building Strategy?
Just checking in - i'm working on a site with tons of broken backlinks from high authority sites. For instance, I've discovered that some 90% of their backlinks are broken, and these are from highly recognizable, name brand magazines, newspapers, blogs and the like. Right now, the site has a Domain Authority of 48 (better than most in the industry from what i am learning) yet as the site has been around for years and has gone through 5 redesigns, there is an absolute ton of solid inbound backlinks that are getting 404's. Using Screaming Frog (list mode) I've also learned there are a ton of 301's that turn out to be redirecting to 404 pages so that also starts to add up. I always knew this was a problem / opportunity and I've always considered it a high priority to fix (301) broken links of this sort to improve ranking (you know, using htaccess or WordPress Redirection tools) -- and to avoid multiple redirects wherever possible. In fact, I consider it a basic all-win, no-lose strategy. I always assumed this was the case and I also assume this will continue to be so. However, as a professional, I always want to double check my assumptions every now and then... Is this still considered solid strategy? Are there any issues that one should look out for?

Questions about the Sandbox and 301 Redirects
Does the sandbox still exist? What if you have a brand new URL and do a 301 redirect from another website because the name of the service business changed? Thanks for any insight and help.

URL redirect question
Hi all, Just wondering whether anybody has experience of CMSs that do a double redirect and what affect that has on rankings. here's the example /page.htm is 301 redirected to /page.html which is 301 redirected to /page As Google has stated that 301 redirects pass on benefits to the new page, would a double redirect do the same? Looking forward to hearing your views.

Can somebody help me figure out this bing redirect error. The link to "http://w******/flea-control" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://w******/feas/flea-control/".Search engines can only pass page rankings and other relevant data through a single redirection hop. Using unnecessary redirects can have a negative impact on page ranking. I am using wordpress. I am actually linking to the /feas/flea-control/ version. I have looked every where for help. Domain redirect seo
Hello, my domain www.pacomarca.com and when i start the new campaing i get this pronblem: We have detected that the domain www.pacomarca.com and the domain pacomarca.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here. my domain is in networksolutions.com. how can i resolve it? many thanks Gonzalo

301 Redirect Properly To Keep the Juice
I have a bunch of WP Blogs and was thinking of taking all linkjuice from these to my main money site. The most of the other WP Blogs is hosted at godaddy.com (domain and site) and I know they have a URL Redirects page in site manager but I`m not sure this is the right way to go. Also I wonder some of these sites have hundreds of blogposts there is no way I can "re-create" those on the money site but I am sure that is not a must-thing to do in order to keep the "juice" right or wrong? Last but not least, I was wondering if you think it would be best to redirect the sites to relevant pages on money sites. For instance if i had a domain called cheap-ties.com with 100 blogposts about this and on money site a webshop with a category called ties, should redirect to this or to main domain or doesnt it matter?

Is my 301 redirect working?
Very simple question here . I've redirected a bunch of older pages with decent ranking to some newer pages on my site, using the Thesis theme's built-in redirect function. However, in the SERPS, the older pages (and, importantly, older titles) still show up. When clicked on, they redirect to the new page, but it's still irritating because the older titles make the site look out of date. Is this Working As Intended, or have I or my theme done something wrong? And if it's the latter, what's the best way to achieve a redirect, preferably with a Wordpress plugin?
