Crawl errors which ones should i sort out

Hi, just had my website updated to joomla 3.0 and i have around 4000 urls not found. now i have been told i need to redirect these but i would just like to check on here to make sure i am doing the right thing and the advice i have been given is not correct.
I have been told these errors are the reason for the drop in rankings.
I need to know if i should redirect all of these 4,000 urls or only the ones that are being linked to from outside of the site.
I think about 3,000 of these have no links from outside of the site, but if i do not redirect them all then i am going to keep getting the error messages. around 2,000 of these url not found are from the last time we updated the site which was a couple of years ago and i thought they would have died off now.
any advice on what i should do would be great

By fixing obvious errors, I mean fixing the ones that are showing up in the crawl report (and 404 errors caused by external links to missing pages) . It is possible that there are also other things that are contributing to your drop in traffic but take care of these first and if the problem persists, start digging into your analytics for other problems.

thank you for this, so work on the ones that have links from outside of the site first, should i then deal with the other ones that have links from inside the site, and can you let me know what you mean by eliminating the obvious errors

Tim,
Minimally, you want to redirect the pages that have external links and that get traffic from search. If you don't redirect pages that do have links to them from other pages on your website, each time the site is crawled, you will continue to get those errors--it seems you must have have carried over a bunch of old links from your old site if you still had 2000 not found errors.
It is possible that those not found errors impacted your search results but it could be other things, too. You should work your way through eliminating the obvious errors as quickly as you can so you can get to any other problems if that's what's causing your problem.

Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

Duplicate Page Titles Issue in Campaign Crawl Error Report
Hello All! Looking at my campaign I noticed that I have a large number of 'duplicate page titles' showing up but all they are the various pages at the end of the URL. Such as, http://thelemonbowl.com/tag/chocolate/page/2 as a duplicate of http://thelemonbowl.com/tag/chocolate. Any suggestions on how to address this? Thanks!

Google stopped crawling my site. Everybody is stumped.
This has stumped the Wordpress staff and people in the Google Webmasters forum. We are in Google News (have been for years), and so new posts are crawled immediately. On Feb 17-18 Crawl Stats dropped 85%, and new posts were no longer indexed (not appearing on News or search). Data highlighter attempts return "This URL could not be found in Google's index." No manual actions by Google. No changes to the website; no custom CSS. No Site Errors or new URL errors. No sitemap problems (resubmitting didn't help). We're on wordpress.com, so no odd code. We can see the robot.txt file. Other search engines can see us, as can social media websites. Older posts still index, but loss of News is a big hit. Also, I think overall Google referrals are dropping. We can Fetch the URL for a new post, and many hours later it appears on Google and News, and we can then use Data Highlighter. It's now 6 days and no recovery. Everybody is stumped. Any ideas? I just joined, so this might be the wrong venue. If so, apologies.

Help Crawl friendliness for large site
After watching Rand's video I am trying to think of the best way to make my large site more crawl friendly. Background I have a large site with over 100k product skus and so when you get to a particular page of products there are tons of different refinements and options that help you sort the products. Most of these are noindex followed, but I was wondering if I should be nofollowing the internal links as well in order to keep bots out of those pages and going to the pages that I want them to go too. Is this a good way to handle it? Also, does anyone have good recommendations of links to posts that deal with helping the crawl friendliness of a large site? Thanks!

My site is not being regularly crawled?
My site used to be crawled regularly, but not anymore. My pages aren't showing up in the index months after they've been up. I've added them to the sitemap and everything. I now have to submit them through webmaster tools to get them to index. And then they don't really rank? Before you go spouting off the standard SEO resolutions... Yes, I checked for crawl errors on Google Webmaster and no, there aren't any issues No, the pages are not noindex. These pages are index,follow No, the pages are not canonical No, the robots.txt does not block any of these pages No, there is nothing funky going on in my .htaccess. The pages load fine No, I don't have any URL parameters set What else would be interfereing? Duplicate Page Title Crawl Error Issue
In the last crawl for on of our client websites the duplicate page title and page content numbers were very high. They are reading every page twice. http://www.barefootparadisevacations.com and http://barefootparadisevacations.com are being read as two different pages with the same page title. After the last crawl I used our built in redirect tool to redirect the urls, but the most recent crawl showed the same issue. Is this issue really hurting our rankings and if so, any suggestions on a fix for the problem? Thank you!

Numerous 404 errors on crawl diagnostics (non existent pages)..
As new as them come to SEO so please be gentle.... I have a wordpress site setup for my photography business. Looking at my crawl diagnostics I see several 4xx (client error) alerts. These all show up to non existent pages on my site IE: | http://www.robertswanigan.com/happy-birthday-sara/109,97,105,108,116,111,58,104,116,116,112,58,47,47,109,97,105,108,116,111,58,105,110,102,111,64,114,111,98,101,114,116,115,119,97,110,105,103,97,110,46,99,111,109 | Totally lost on what could be causing this. If multiple links on a page point to the same URL, and one of them is no-followed, does that impact the one that isn't?
Page A has two links on it that both point to Page B. Link 1 isn't no-follow, but Link 2 is. Will Page A pass any juice to Page B?
