Implementing Cannonical & Alternate tags on a large website
-
Hi There,
Our brochureware website consists of a Desktop site (www.oursite.com)and a Mobile website (m.oursite.com).
I know I need to implement the alternate tags on the desktop pages and the cannonical tags on the mobile versions. However we have a huge site is there any dynamic way through javascript to have the code be generated or is it something that should be done manually page by page?
Below is sample javascript a colleague completed to attempt to dynamically develop the snippet but I am unsure if bots will be able to interpret it:
Alternate version:
Thanks in advance
Phil

JavaScript is client-side code that's generally rendered in browsers, which means Google crawlers typically won't see it, and the almost definitely won't process it for these kinds of directives.
You can create these tags dynamically, but you need to do it with a server-side scripting language, like PHP, ASP, etc. That's a common practice, and many large sites dynamically code canonical tags, META ROBOTS, etc. (I've done it on many sites).

I am currently working on a website (Ed tech) that is doing business in India as well as USA. The courses are same. Content being served is also same. There is no cookie level redirection. The only difference is in the price range and price type. In schema we have set price type as $. We want to set different price type for India and USA through schema. How can we do this? For example given below website ranks for India & USA with the same domain name but prince range that we can setup either in INR or USA

H1 Tag as Logo on the Homepage.
So I was working on a Genesis theme website where they have the H1 Tag as the Logo on the homepage. I wanted this changed because I always use my H1 tag to include a keyword I want to rank for. I was told by the Genesis Forum Manager that Yoast said the Logo should be the H1 tag on the homepage. (Yoast has a WP SEO Plugin that is very popular) That makes no sense to me, so I was looking for Opinions. Thanks,

How to SEO a Website Built off Godaddy?
I have a client whose website is built off Godaddy services. I know Godaddy is not the right choice for building a website, but what's done is done. The client has already bought the Godaddy services and there's no way I can tell him to go rebuild his website before we could optimize it for SEO. I'm already facing a lot of challenges while optimizing on-page elements. When I wanted to verify the ownership for Google Analytics and Webmaster Tool via his Godaddy account. the process failed many times. it looks like Godaddy is using some kind of caching not allowing us to modify the codes. For example, I'd applied the site verification codes for Webmasters Tool 48 hours ago, and the metatag for google site verification is not yet updated in the frontend. It's quite frustrating. What would you suggest?

Schema.org : reviewCount & ratingValue - best practices for implementation?
I'd like to add our merchant review count and rating to our site and use the schema.org markup to indicate to the search engines what these are. The reason I'd like to do this is so that the star rating pulls through to the organic listing. Check out this example from several UK tight sites. Notice how the organic listings display the star rating... My questions are: Has anyone seen an example of this from Google.com (US site) I heard that you should only add this markup to the homepape - but couldn't find any Google documentation to back this up. Do you know if this can be applied throughout the site w/o penalty? Thanks everyone!

Google Off/On Tags
I came across this article about telling google not to crawl a portion of a webpage, but I never hear anyone in the SEO community talk about them. http://perishablepress.com/press/2009/08/23/tell-google-to-not-index-certain-parts-of-your-page/ Does anyone use these and find them to be effective? If not, how do you suggest noindexing/canonicalizing a portion of a page to avoid duplicate content that shows up on multiple pages?

Canonical tags and relative paths
Hi, I'm seeing a problem with Roger Bot crawling a clients site. In a campaign I am seeing you say that the canonical tag is pointing to a different URL. The tag is as follows:- /~/Standards-and....etc Google say:- relative paths are recognized as expected with the tag. Also, if you include a <base> link in your document, relative paths will resolve according to the base URL Is the issue with this, that there is a /~/, that there is no <base> link or just an issue with Roger? Best regards, Peter
