Will swear words present on my pages affect my rankings?
-
Hi There,
I am in the process of formulating a listing policy for my site and I'm not sure whether I should add something in there for swear words.
My site is an adult site and swear words come with the territory, unfortunately. Will user generated content with swear words affect my ranking?
Thank you

The surf safe information I shared isn't really relevant in this particular case as Mulith shared he operates an adult site. I added it in case others viewed this topic at a later time.

Since Google leaves SafeSearch Off for its text based results, it's rare that you'll see a difference. In some cases if people have SafeSearch set to moderate or strict you may notice your listing removed. Pretty easy to test though.

Google is fine with swear words. Your ranking will not be affected.
On the other hand AdSense has rules against excessive profanity. If you are dependent on AdSense income you should take that into consideration.
Also be aware that "surf safe" settings can cause your site to be filtered. Since you have an adult site you would already be filtered so the swear words would not impact you.

Big discrepancies between pages in Google's index and pages in sitemap
Hi, I'm noticing a huge difference in the number of pages in Googles index (using 'site:' search) versus the number of pages indexed by Google in Webmaster tools. (ie 20,600 in 'site:' search vs 5,100 submitted via the dynamic sitemap.) Anyone know possible causes for this and how i can fix? It's an ecommerce site but i can't see any issues with duplicate content - they employ a very good canonical tag strategy. Could it be that Google has decided to ignore the canonical tag? Any help appreciated, Karen

How to combine 2 pages (same domain) that rank for same keyword?
Hi Mozzers, A quick question. In the last few months I have noticed that for a number of keywords I am having 2 different pages on my domain show up in the SERP. Always right next to each other (for example, position #7 and #8 or #3 and #4). So in the SERP it looks something like: www.mycompetition1.com www.mycompetition2.com www.mywebsite.com/page1.html

4) www.mywebsite.com**/page2.html**
5) www.mycompetition3.com Now, I actually need both pages since the content on both pages is different - but on the same topic. Both pages have links to them, but page1.html always tends to have more. So, what is the best practice to tell Google that I only want 1 page to rank? Of course, the idea is that by combining the SEO Juice of both pages, I can push my way up to position 2 or 1. Does anybody have any experience in this? Any advice is much appreciated.0 -

Will changing a subdirectory name negatively effect local ranking?
We submitted a group of 50+ franchise stores into UBL to fulfill directory listings back in September. We are now looking at changing the some of the URL structure to include city names. Example: website.com/store/store-name(not city) to website.com/location/city-store-name Will changing the subdirectory and resubmitting to the directory aggregators negatively effect their search results? Thanks, Jake
