Pings & Trackbacks
-
Hello
I have a question:
If Pings & Trackbacks are disabled (and, for older posts, removed completely through a function in mySQL) would this also remove links earned through pings and trackbacks?
Also, if those functions are disabled, would thus avoid a website gaining some (even if automatic, but maybe from very good websites for article feeds) useful backlinks?
Thanks for a reply. If I was not clear, please let me know.

Disabling the feature will keep the trackback link from being posted on your site, but it wouldn't remove existing links from other sites. However, it may discourage people who are linking to you just to get the trackback link. This could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Personally, I don't' want or need any links coming from someone who is doing it just for the trackback. Most of them are nofollowed anyway.

This same content is on the vendor's website & my client's site also but on my site there is a link back to vendor is placed which clearly tells to anyone that this is a licensed content & we bought from this vendor. My client bought paid top quality content for best source of industry but at this same this is placed on vendor's website also. Will Google penalize my client's website for this ? Niche is HEALTH

Site architecture & breadcrumbs
Hi A client hasn't structured site architecture in a silo type format so breadcrumbs are not predicating in a topical hierarchy as one would desire (or at least i think one would prefer) For example: say the site is called www.fruit.com and it has a category called 'types of fruit' and then sub/content pages called things like 'apples' and 'pears'. So in terms of architecture that should be: www.fruit.com/types-of-fruit/apples and www.fruit.com/types-of-fruit/pears etc etc The client has kept it all flat so instead architecture is: www.fruit.com/types-of-fruit and www.fruit.com/apples and www.fruit.com/pears As a result breadcrumbs follow suit and hence since also not employing logical predication dont reflect the topical & sub-topical hierarchy I have seen that some seo's at least used to think this was better for seo since kept the page/s nearer the root but surely its better to structure site architecture in a logical topical hierarchy so long as dont go beyond say 3 or 4 directories/forward slashes in the url's? Also is it theoretically possible to keep url structure as is (flat) and just edit/customise the breadcrumbs to reflect a topical hierarchy in a silo structure rather than change the entire site architecture & required 301'ing etc in order to do this (or is that misleading or just not possible?) Microsite & Ducplicate Content Concern
I have a client that wants to put up a micro-site. It's not really even a niche micro-site, it's his whole site less a category and a few other pages. He is a plastic surgeon that offers cosmetic surgery services for the Face, Breast, and Body at his private practice in City A. He has partnered with another surgeon in City B who's surgical services are limited to only the Face. City B is nearby, but not so close that they consider themselves competitors for Facial surgery. The doctors agreement is that my client will perform only Breast and Body surgery at the City B location. He can market himself in City B (which he currently is not doing on his main site) but only for Breast and Body procedures and is not to compete for Facial surgery. Therefore, he needs this second site to not include content about Facial surgery. My concern is duplicate content. His request plan: the micro-site will be on different domain and C-block, the content, location keywords and meta data will be completely re-written and target City B. However, he wants to use the same theme of his main site - same source code, html/css, same top level navigation, same sub-navigation less the Face section, same images/graphics, same forms, etc. Is it okay to have the same exact site build on a different domain with rewritten copy (less a few pages) to target the same base keywords with only a different location? The site is intended for a different user group in City B, but I'm concerned the search engines won't like this and trigger the filters. I've read a bunch of duplicate content articles including this post panda by Dr. Pete. Great post, but doesn't really answer this particular issue of duplicating code for a related site. Can anyone make a case for or against this? Thanks in advance!

Will same language different region (US/UK) geotargeting via subdirectory (& GWT) cause dupe content or other issues ?
If a UK hosted site on a .com, needs to target US now too but for keywords that are spelt differently in US is creating duplicate version of uk hosted .com site and putting it on a subdirectory .com/us/ and geotargeting via webmaster tools (to usa) ok ? I take it in this scenario no dupe content issues (or other issues) so long as is geotargeted via GWT ? Or are there ? Comments from anyone with experience doing similar (same language, different region geo-targeting dupe content with kw spelling being only difference, via a subdirectory or other route) much appreciated ? Many Thanks 🙂

Adding 'NoIndex Meta' to Prestashop Module & Search pages.
Hi Looking for a fix for the PrestaShop platform Look for the definitive answer on how to best stop the indexing of PrestaShop modules such as "send to a friend", "Best Sellers" and site search pages. We want to be able to add a meta noindex ()to pages ending in: /search?tag=ball&p=15 or /modules/sendtoafriend/sendtoafriend-form.php We already have in the robot text: Disallow: /search.php
Technical SEO | | reallyitsme
Disallow: /modules/ (Google seems to ignore these) But as a further tool we would like to incude the noindex to all these pages too to stop duplicated pages. I assume this needs to be in either the head.tpl or the .php file of each PrestaShop module.? Or is there a general site wide code fix to put in the metadata to apply' Noindex Meta' to certain files. Current meta code here: Please reply with where to add code and what the code should be. Thanks in advance.0 -
Smart phone shows both mobile & desktop version of www.innoviafilms.com
Good morning from 2 degrees C mostly cloudy wetherby UK, Image this situation... Ive got two versions of a website: A desktop version & a mobile version, here are their respective urls: Desk top: http://www.innoviafilms.com Mobile: http://www.innoviafilms.com/m/home.aspx With blackberry bold in hand I type in via google search "Innovia films" i click on the search snippet and it renders the desktop version. But when i type the url directly in my Blackberry bold 9700 it returns the mobile version 😞 This confuses me. Having read this: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/02/making-websites-mobile- friendly.html I thought the desktop version would render in smartphones which the balckberry bold is. So my question is... "Why does the the mobile version only appear when you type in www.innoviafilms.com on a blackberry (and iphone 4) and the desktop version appears only when you enter "Innovia films" via google search" Any insights welcome 🙂
