Does Pinterest's javascript removes rel="nofollow" ?
-
It's late and I might be seeing things disappear...but I noticed something strange with a Pin It button we added in our website:
I added a rel="nofollow" to the <a href="">for Pinterest, however when I use the html inspector in IE or Firefox, and inspect the attributes of the link, 'rel=nofollow' is nowhere to be found.</a>
<a href="">Did anyone notice this?
Does Pinterest's javascript remove the 'rel' attribute? (looks like it's the case)
How does google treats this? Do they interpret the .js and ignore the 'rel=nofollow'?I hope it's a technical error on my end, otherwise thousands of website owners are being tricked into believing that they added a rel=nofollow, when in fact it's just being removed behind the scene.</a>

Many do. Pinterest, Twitter, etc. They fetch those <a>'s and then rewrite the code via js. Googebot sees both, the one with the rel=nofollow and the one without as they are capable of executing javascript.</a>
<a>There's no impact on your end, if that's what you are wondering, however, given the latest statements by Matt Cutts, widget links should be nofollowed and Pinterest isn't following Google's guidelines, but I guess those kind of penalties (penguin) do not apply to that kind of sites... although I think they should.</a>

Special result for linkedin when you search for 'link'
Hello everyone, I found this merely by chance. I wanted to open linkedin on chrome and hasty as I am i just typed 'link'. Wanted google to understand and return linkedin as the first result so i could just click on it. This is what it returned. Google allows you to search directly on Linkedin from the results page. Its quite fascinating for me. I hope my knowledge isn't too outdated. R0mp9aO

How do I remove 11,000 spam facebook page likes received overnight complete with negative ratings/reviews?
My page has 11,000 spammed page likes. Only 250 are legitimate. These spammers are leaving 1 star ratings. Facebook is limiting the number of likes I can delete. I can report some fake ratings as spam but, again, facebook is limiting what I see. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Update: I found a work around for the negative ratings/reviews. I can change the category of my page to "other community" to remove the rating system from the page https://www.facebook.com/changeratings/posts/445471405558046. That still leaves me with 11,000 illegitimate likes that are stealing away from my 250 legitimate fans from seeing our posts. Should I start over?

Trouble implementing rel=publisher
I am trying to implement rel=publisher but am having some difficulties. Although I have over 1000 fans when I try and verify my page I get a message from Google that "Your page does not have enough followers to be eligible for verification" I have the following code on my pages: <td id="ctl00_header_socialctrl_tdgooglepluslinkctrl"> <a href="<a class="webkit-html-attribute-value webkit-html-external-link" href="https://plus.google.com/+thelotter/posts" target="_blank">https://plus.google.com/[myname]/posts" id="ctl00_Header_socialCtrl_GooglePlusLinkCtrl_hyperLinkSocial" target="_blank" class="socialIcon googlePlusIcon"></a href="<a></td id="ctl00_header_socialctrl_tdgooglepluslinkctrl"> What should I be doing differently? Thanks!

Rel=author and rel=publisher - what to use?
Hi guys i have a big e-commerce website, we have put rel=publisher on our homepage and linked it up with our google + profile. We sell holidays and have a big resort guide full of quality content, do i need to put rel=publisher on those too? It doesn't seem right to put a personal author with a personal google + page on content as the author. Do i simply as a business page use rel=publisher instead? Any advice much appreciated, i find this confusing in all honesty on what benefits the most.

Do social media buttons work better "within" a website or "outside" of a website?
Websites like techcrunch.com include the social media buttons (+1, FB like, linkedin etc.) to the left of their articles so they seem to float outside of the content. Some even let the social media buttons wander while scrolling, so that they are always visible (e.g. here: http://www.kirstenwinkler.com/news-from-palabea-and-how-to-prepare-kids-for-tomorrow/). The "traditional" way has been to include the buttons within the content, e.g. on top of the article or on the right hand side. I was wondering which alternative has the largest impact. Intuitively "outside" of the content should be more visible as it "breaks" with the website design. Has anyone done an empirical test which version gets more clicks?

I just discovered something about Addthis shares, Twitter, and rel-canonical.
Let's say I have a page on my site with the url www.mydomain.com/page1.php?id=234. Let's say it can be accessed by the url www.mydomain.com/page-this-is-a-keyword-rich-url And let's say that the second example is what I have set as my rel-canonical. I wondered what would happen when people submitted the non-canonical url to twitter. We know that Twitter shares count for something in SEO. I didn't want things to go to waste if people were landing on my short urls and sharing them on Twitter. Well, tonight, I shared one of my own urls on Twitter. I was accidentally on the short one (not the canonical), but when I shared it via addthis the long one was shared. So, Addthis must read the canonical and use this to share. Very cool. At least to me. I may possibly be the only person on the planet that understands what I just wrote, but this is a neat discovery for me.
