How does Google or Bing Recognise my Blog?
-
I have a blog as part of my site http://www.over50choices.co.uk/Community/Ashleys-Blog.aspx and has been live for approx 10 weeks, but i dont think google recognises is yet as a Blog.
Is there anything that i can do to speed this up?
We have posted about 25 posts.
Thanks

Hi there Ash
Yep, those are the two folders where, if possible, you might want to omit. Of course, make sure that any old URLs are removed from the site navigation, sitemaps and 301 one them if applicable. It's not really that essential of a change, but widely seen as good practice.
As for your alerts question, I'm afraid I can't help much there although I do know that Google Alerts can be pretty unreliable at the best of times.

Oh and meant to ask, do you mean the sub folders PostId & 77 in the example below?

HI Tom thanks for getting back to me.
I was prompted to ask the question because we have google alerts set up for our keywords eg funeral plans and we never show on the list of daily Blogs for these words?
Do they need to be "anchored or in the title" to show or should google just pick them up?

Hi there Ash
On the contrary, I think Google and Bing are recognising the blog and indexing it well.
With this site search, you can see over 89 URLs indexed - it looks as though Google is indexing the blog posts and the categories just fine.
What were you expecting to see from this? If there was something specific, I can try and see if it's being achieved.
As a couple of general points, it's a good idea to link some of your blog posts to other internal pages on your site, for example linking the words "funeral plans" in your blog posts to your funeral plans page. That means that if this page gains links/social shares, the SEO "strength" will pass through that blog post to your key landing pages.
As an aside, the URL structure looks pretty long. With the postID and number subfolders, your blog posts are 5 subfolders deep. Sometimes this can be a bit of a barrier for Google and Bing to index your page, although as said before that doesn't look to be a problem. If at all possible, ask your developer to remove those two subfolders - 3 folders deep is usually the recommended site structure. This isn't that essential, however.

Hi I have swaped from HTTP to HTTPS and put a redirect on for HTTP to redirect to HTTPS. I also put www.xyz.co.uk/index.html to redirect to www.xyz.co.uk When I fetch as Google it shows up redirect! Does this mean that I have too many 301 looping? Do I need the redirect on index.html to root domain if I have a rel conanical in place for index.html htaccess (Linix) - RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^xyz.co.uk

Hey Moz People, I'm getting a 404 when I cache: this blog post http://www.inscopix.com/blog/decoding-brain-initiative and I'm not able to see what's causing it. Can someone take a look and let me know if they see anything standing out? Thanks,

Bing still not listing my site after 3 weeks, Google ranks very very low
I am scared that somehow the search engines are penalizing me for something, but I don't know what. The site can be found at http://www.hypnotherapy-guide.com It is a business directory/advice/guide site listing a lot of hypnotherapists (9000). Is it possible that such a large site popping up over night is flagged by the SE as spam? I don't know what I am doing wrong.

How does Google know if a backlink is good or not?
Hi, What does Google look at when assessing a backlink? How important is it to get a backlink from a website with relevant content? Ex: 1. Domain/Page Auth 80, website is not relevant. Does not use any of the words in your target term in any area of the website. 2. Domain/Page Auth 40, website is relevant. Uses the words in your target term multiple times across website. Which website example would benefit your SERP's more if you gained a backlink? (and if you can say, how much more would it benefit - low, medium, high).

Removing a Page From Google index
We accidentally generated some pages on our site that ended up getting indexed by google. We have corrected the issue on the site and we 404 all of those pages. Should we manually delete the extra pages from Google's index or should we just let Google figure out that they are 404'd? What the best practice here?

Nofollow links in Google Webmaster
I've noticed nofollow links showing up in my Google Webmaster tools "links to your site" list. If they are nofollow why are they showing up here? Do nofollow links still count as a backlink and transfer PR and authority?
