Many Errors on E-commerce website mainly Duplicate Content - Advice needed please!
-
Hi Mozzers,
I would need some advice on how to tackle one of my client’s websites. We have just started doing SEO for them and after moz crawled the e-commerce it has detected:
36 329 Errors – 37496 warnings and 2589 Notices all going up!
Most of the errors are due to duplicate titles and page content but I cannot identify where the duplicate pages come from, these are the links moz detected of the Duplicate pages (unfortunately I cannot add the website for confidentiality reasons) :
With these URLs it is quite hard to identify which pages need to be canonicalize. And this is jsut an example out of thousands on this website.
If anyone would have any advice on how to fix this and how to tackle 37496 errors on a website like this that would be great.
Thank you for your time,
Lyam

agree to that... rel="prev" & rel="next" will help

Hi there,
This is just a wild guess, but it sounds like this is a pagination issue. There are many tactics for dealing with pagination issues from an SEO perspective. One that I have seen is when you get a series of results, all the pages in the series are canonicalized back to the first page of the series. So /blah.results?param1=blue&page=2 would have a canonical tag for page 1. Page 3, 4, 5, etc. would all have canonical tags back to page one of the series. You should also include rel=prev and rel=next tags on the pages.
Or, you can look at how Moz.com deals with it in their blog. When they have a series of pages the pages after the first in the series are blocked from indexing using the robots tag: http://moz.com/blog/category/white-hat-black-hat?page=2 (view source on this page and look for robots tag)
Good luck!

Finding a specific link - Duplicating my own content
Hi Mozzers, This may be a bit of a n00b question and i feel i should know the answer but alas, here i am asking. I have a page www.website.co.uk/page/ and im getting a duplicate page report of www.website.co.uk/Page/ i know this is because somewhere on my website a link will exists using the capitalised version. I have tried everything i can think of to find it but with no luck, any little tricks? I could always rewrite the urls to lowercase, but I have downloadable software etc also on the website that i dont want to take the capitals out of. So the best solution seems to be finding the link and remove it. Most link checkers I use treat the capitalised and non capitalised as the same thing so really arent helping lol.

Gallery Causing Duplicate Content Issues
Hi! I have a gallery on my website. When you click to view the next image it goes to a new page but the content is exactly the same as the first page. This is flagging up a duplicate content issue. What is the best way to fix this? Add a canonical tag to page 2,3,4 or add a noindex tag? I have found a lot of conflicting answers. Thanks in advance

Bay Area E-Commerce SEO Firm Needed
So my e-commerce site recently got hit badly with the latest Penguin update. Traffic is down by 60%. We were using a cheap Indian SEO firm who did get us great results but it seems they was a lot more spamming than I realized. I am now looking to clean up my backlinks and create a new relationship with a local business so I can be more hands on with my SEO. Does anyone have any recommendations for SEO firms that have experience in e-commerce? Ideally somewhere in the Bay Area or even Sacramento?

Why I am a seeing an error for duplicate content for any categories and tags on my Wordpress blog?
When I look under "Crawl Diagnostics" I see I have 12 errors for duplicate content and there are all from tags and categories. I am assuming that search engines are reading the content in the tags and categories as duplicate. Should I set my categories to "no-index?"

Duplicate page content issue needs resolution.
After my last "crawl" report, I received a warning about "duplicate page content". One page was: http://anycompany.com and the other was: http://anycompany.com/home.html How do I correct this so these pages aren't competing with each other or is this a problem?

Crawl Errors and Duplicate Content
SEOmoz's crawl tool is telling me that I have duplicate content at "www.mydomain.com/pricing" and at "www.mydomain.com/pricing.aspx". Do you think this is just a glitch in the crawl tool (because obviously these two URL's are the same page rather than two separate ones) or do you think this is actually an error I need to worry about? Is so, how do I fix it?

E-Commerce Categorization
I'm working on an e-commerce site that currently has about 50 root categories and growing, with no sub-categories. They are all linked from the sidebar of every page and all the products are pretty related. They could probably be sub-categorized in to 5 root categories. At want point does categorization become too flat?
