Do I have duplicate content issues to be worried about?
-
Hey guys,
We built a website http://www.cylon.com/ targeting different regions but with the same English langauage (Ireland, England and America). The content for the most part is the same set up on 3 different subfolders.
http://www.cylon.com/ - Targeting United States in WMT
http://www.cylon.com/ie - Targeting Ireland in WMT
http://www.cylon.com/uk - Targeting UK in WMT
Do I have duplicate content issues to be worried about?
If so, how do I get around this issue?
Also is there anyway of finding out if Google have in some way penalised these pages for having the same content on other pages trageting different Countries? I have not received any messages from Google in WMT saying there is duplicate so I'm not sure if this is an issue.
Thanks
Rob

The hreflang have to be implemented per page
here is a good resource https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077
if you cant upload it on each page then include it in the sitemaps
a good tool http://www.themediaflow.com/resources/tools/href-lang-tool/

Thanks for reply,
Client would like all addresses on all versions of the website unfortunately. if I use hreflang as you suggested do I have to insert this separately on every page or is there a way of bulk uploading this to the website.
Thanks

Hi Hannah,
Thanks for the reply. No this isn't causing us any difficulties at the moment but I had read about using hreflang for multi country set ups like this. If it is something I don't need to do then I won't give myself any unnecessary work.
Thanks

Hey Rob,
In short, no - this set up shouldn't cause you problems from a duplicate content perspective. The search engines (broadly speaking) understand that content intended for different geographic locations shouldn't be considered duplicate.
Are you having issues in terms of Google ranking the correct content in each location? (I.E. - does your Irish content rank on google.ie?).
If not, you might consider implementing hreflang - see this post by Aleyda for further information.
Thanks
Hannah

Do you have business location in Uk? Ireland? US?
If yes and let it reflect that when i land on each page, don't mix locations (as i see in /uk and /ie)
what you can utilize also the hreflang where you can set it like that :

Hi Rob,
Checked your website and figured out. It is a long list but u have a lot of server errors like 5xx, 4xx and some of the url doesnt respond(no respond because of time out). you have also dublicate url, meta descriptions page titles.
If u are not using screaming frog can be very handy to use all info is one place so it would help u a lot to solve mistakes and check afterwards are there still there or not.

Duplicate Content Regarding Translated Pages
If we have one page in English, and another that is translated into Spanish, does google consider that duplicate content? I don't know if having something in a different language makes it different or if it will get flagged. Thanks, Ruben

How to avoid duplication across multiple country domains
Here's the scenario: I have a client currently running one Shopify site (AU) They want to launch three more country domains (US, UK and EU) They want each to be a standalone site, primarily so the customers can purchase in their local currency, which is not possible from a single Shopify site The inventory is all from the same source The product desscriptions will all be the same as well Question: How do we avoid content duplication (ie. how will canonical tags work in this scenario)?

International SEO & Duplicate Content: ccTLD, hreflang, and relcanonical tags
Hi Everyone, I have a client that has two sites (example.com & example.co.uk) each have the same English content, but no hreflang or rel="canonical" tags in place. Would this be interpreted as duplicate content? They haven't changed the copy to speak to specific regions, but have tried targeting the UK with a ccTLD. I've taken a look at some other comparable question on MOZ like this post - > https://moz.com/community/q/international-hreflang-will-this-handle-duplicate-content where one of the answers says **"If no translation is happening within a geo-targeted site, HREFLANG is not necessary." **If hreflang tags are not necessary, then would I need rel="canonical" to avoid duplicate content? Thanks for taking the time to help a fellow SEO out.

Backlinks issue
Hi guys So I have 3 top level domains - I'm seeing backlinks that point to each other. Is this something that I need to fix? I'm not too sure if this practice is ethical, but I'm not entirely sure how all the links are pointing towards each other and if this is something I will get pulled up for how do i go about fixing it? My 3 domains are as follows: zenory.com, zenory.com.au and zenory.co.nz I would appreciate some advice around this! Cheers

E-Commerce site in 2 languages - Duplicate content or not?
How does Google view this? Our current site works like:
International SEO | | bjs2010
www.domain.com/EN - English
www.domain.com/ES - Spanish All products are the same, just different language and different URL for them - is this good or bad? I thought of either Going with .co.uk or .com for "English" and a .es for "Spanish"
OR Subdomaining it. www.es.domain.com and www.en.domain.com Any advice appreciated!0 -
Geotarget subfolders with the same language or get rid of duplicates but lose option to geotarget?
Hi, we have a domain that is aimed to cover LatAm region. Currently, the homepage contains country selector for ~20 countries. 95% of them hold content in Spanish. We have only homepages for each regions as separate subfolders, i.e.
International SEO | | eset
www.maindomain.com/co
www.maindomain.com/cl
www.maindomain.com/br
etc. but once the user clicks on menu item he is taken back to main domain subpages, i.e. www.maindomain.com/comprar My struggle is to decide whether it is better to: A) copy all content for each subfolder, which will create huge amount of duplicates (there are no resources to create unique content and it is even impossible taking into account nature of the product - mostly tech.specs, etc.) and implement hreflang sitemaps and configure GWT to target each country with its own Spanish content (the same for each country) OR B) remove all local subfolders and keep only main domain in Spanish that will serve all countries within the region. With this option, we will get rid of duplicates but also lose option to geotarget. So, my questions is which option will do less harm, or if there is any other approach that comes to your minds. I consulted with two agencies but still haven't got clear answer. Thanks a lot for your help!0 -

Geotargeting Issues
Hi, I am having a problem with geotargeting. I have gTLD (solmelia.com) but my international languages are in subdomains. My english version is showing in the google mexico search engine. I need to know what I can do to show our international as well as regional languages (fr.solmelia.com) in the right search engines. Also, having problem with mexico (es) and spain (es) causing dulipication issues and showing in both search engines. I dont think geotargeting in webmaster tools would be the action or setting a lang attribute. Let me know what you think I should I do.
