Best Backlink checker - OSE or Hrefs?

Hi Guys
I am looking for a new back link tool but i'm not sure which one to go for.
Should I continue using Open Site Explorer or should I go for something else like Ahrefs.com or something else?

Both are quite different, so it really depends on what you are after. I'm actually a big fan of majestiseo (just to confuse things further). OSE is good for understanding the big picture. However I find that its crawl isn't anywhere deep enough for the stuff I work on - particularly in terms of deep pages on large authority sites. Example: links from the bbc are almost the holy grail for some of the projects that I work on, but OSE often misses them.
Ahrefs is better, and majestic goes deeper still. The down-side of that is that you get a lot more low quality stuff to sort through.
In terms of majestic v ahrefs, ahrefs definitely wins in terms of interface / tools. I'm an excel guy though, so it is all about the data for me - hence majestic being my "weapon of choice".

Why are there less backlink domains in Moz vs. Semrush?
For our domain studyville.com, Semrush is reporting 46 linking domains, and Moz is reporting 7. Does anyone know where there is such a large discrepancy?

Empty href damages SEO? (href="#")
Hello, I'm analyzing a website with thousands of pages.

I realized that on many of them they have empty links such href="#". I wonder if that will cause any SEO damage, or if Google will just ignore it as there isn't any link? I was reading about it and people seems to not be sure, although they recommend on forums to user the CSS pointer clickable instead of empty link. Let me know your opinion on this please! Is there a difference between .com backlinks and .co.uk?
(We are a UK based business) I am currently looking for sites for guest posting opportunities and I am not sure whether I should prioritize .co.uk sites or go for .com sites. Does it matter? Is more weight given to .co.uk sites if you are based in the UK?

Ways to remove spammy backlinks
Hello everyone, I got hit with an algorithm penalty and need to start removing old backlinks ASAP. Does anyone have any good resources on how best to ask webmasters for removal? Are there any other ways to remove bad back links besides the disavow tool? (An SEO consultant I talked to said that they had a proprietary software that can remove them - is that possible?) Best way to remove unwanted links
Hello, The site I work with has a number of unwanted, unrealted and just generally spammy sites linking to our site. What is the best way to ask them to remove the links (formal notice asking to remove or more of a "hey, can you get remove this for us as a favor" tone)? Do you have any tips for getting rid of these links? Thank you!

Changing backlinks anchor text
Hi, I've read a few blog post here that suggests the strength of building links using your brand as an anchor text. This supposedly gives the site authority. Currently a chunck of the back links to my homepage are on generic terms i'm trying to rank for which doesn't seem to be working very well. I was thinking of contacting the various webmasters to change the anchor text to that of the site brand name but wondering if this will signal a manipulation of links to the search engines and potentially could be flagged as paid links? Has anybody done this before and what is the danger of doing this? Thanks Duke
