Are my Domain URLs correctly set up?
-
Hi Im struggling with this probably easy concept, so I am sure one of you guys out there can answer it fairly easy!
My website is over50choices.co.uk and whilst using the free tools in Majestic it said that I had:
77 Referring Domains pointing to www.over50choices.co.uk and only 35 pointing to www.over50choices.co.uk/
And in Moz it said:
The URL you've entered redirects to another URL. We're showing results for www.over50choices.co.uk/ since it is likely to have more accurate link metrics. See data for over50choices.co.uk instead?
Does this mean that my domains arent set up correctly and are acting as separate domains - should one be pointing to the other?
Your help appreciated.

That is a debatable question. In my opinion, I seriously doubt Google would have a problem figuring out that this is the same page. I don't think it would cause you to lose any pagerank.
However, if you just put a rel canonical tag on that page it should take care of it without even needing to worry about the redirect.

Meant to ask, so as it stands or even if i redirect as suggested, i am not losing any google juice having some back links pointing to to the trailing / or non trailing version?

Thanks Everett that's made it v clear.
Much appreciated

Here is how you have it set up now:
http://www.over50choices.co.uk/ (200 but browser removes trailing slash)
http://www.over50choices.co.uk (200 and should be your canonical URL.)
http://over50choices.co.uk/ (301 redirects to http://www.over50choices.co.uk/ )
http://over50choices.co.uk (301 redirects to http://www.over50choices.co.uk/ )You should be fine, but if you wanted to change something I'd make the redirect from the non-www. version go to the version of www. without the trailing slash (i.e. http://www.over50choices.co.uk ) instead of http://www.over50choices.co.uk/.
You must have just entered over50choices.co.uk into the Moz tool without www., which is why it is letting you know that the tool decided to show for www. instead - though you have the option to force it to look at non-www if you want.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, other than choosing between www. with or without trailing slash.

Ash.
Sounds to me that your not considering the default webpage as a source for links.
If in the server system you set up your default webpage as Home.htm, and the server will sometimes use a list of default webpage to try and look for as the default starting page. But installed as a web store you are using a website for instance written in ASP and that website software has a web.cfg file the web.cfg file will set a new default home page for instance Default.aspx
SO basically there are two different qualified pages that will start your web store but different names.
You could just type toe 2 different names in a browser to see what webpages are being used as the default, then 301 redirect the lowest result to the larger.

Technical guide for Setting up a CDN to host our images, as well as creating an image sitemap, and setting up the CDN in GWT?
Hi All! We're thinking of setting up a CDN to host our images with a CNAME on a subdomain of our site. In terms of SEO, I was wondering if any of you knew of a pretty complete technical guide for setting it all up. Including whether or not we need to create an image sitemap, and setting it up in GWT. Thanks in advance! Vince

Redirect typo domains
Hi, What's the "correct" way of redirecting typo domains? DNS A record goes to the same ip address as the correct domain name Then 301 redirects for each typo domain in the .htaccess Subdomains on typo urls still redirect to www or should they redirect to the subdomain on the correct url in case the subdomain exists?

Which URL would you choose?
1 – www.company.com/subfolder/subfolder/keyword-keyword-product (I’m able to keyword match with this url) or 2. www.company.com/subfolder/subfolder/product (no url keyword match) What would you choose? A url which is "short" but still relevant, or, a url which is more descriptive allowing “keyword” match? Be great to get your feedback guys. Many thanks Gary

Hello All, We are working with a client who had manual penalty from Google. We worked on that and now penalty has been removed. Client had already started working on the new domain and now the big dilemma is- Which domain should we continue with? Old or New? We are suggesting them to continue with the old one as that domain had good PR, good backlinks, better visibility on their social profiles etc. What do you suggest? any inputs are highly appreciated. Different domains
Firstly apologies for the very brief question as I am mainly looking for your thoughts as opposed to specific help about a specific problem. I am working on a site which has two sepreate domains and within one domain, two sub domains. The two different sites both havea high page rank, PR6 each, one is the corporate site and the other is the company blog. There are also two sub domains within the corporate site, again both domains have high pr and tons of content. My question is would it be better to consolidate all the assets under one domain or is it better to keep the sites sepreate, from an seo perspective that is.

Is there actual risk to having multiple URLs that frame in main url? Or is it just bad form and waste of money?
Client has many urls that just frame in the main site. It seems like a total waste of money, but if they are frames, is there an actual risk?

External Links from own domain
Hi all, I have a very weird question about external links to our site from our own domain. According to GWMT we have 603,404,378 links from our own domain to our domain (see screen 1) We noticed when we drilled down that this is from disabled sub-domains like m.jump.co.za. In the past we used to redirect all traffic from sub-domains to our primary www domain. But it seems that for some time in the past that google had access to crawl some of our sub-domains, but in december 2010 we fixed this so that all sub-domain traffic redirects (301) to our primary domain. Example http://m.jump.co.za/search/ipod/ redirected to http://www.jump.co.za/search/ipod/ The weird part is that the number of external links kept on growing and is now sitting on a massive number. On 8 April 2011 we took a different approach and we created a landing page for m.jump.co.za and all other requests generated 404 errors. We added all the directories to the robots.txt and we also manually removed all the directories from GWMT. Now 3 weeks later, and the number of external links just keeps on growing: Here is some stats: 11-Apr-11 - 543 747 534 12-Apr-11 - 554 066 716 13-Apr-11 - 554 066 716 14-Apr-11 - 554 066 716 15-Apr-11 - 521 528 014 16-Apr-11 - 515 098 895 17-Apr-11 - 515 098 895 18-Apr-11 - 515 098 895 19-Apr-11 - 520 404 181 20-Apr-11 - 520 404 181 21-Apr-11 - 520 404 181 26-Apr-11 - 520 404 181 27-Apr-11 - 520 404 181 28-Apr-11 - 603 404 378 I am now thinking of cleaning the robots.txt and re-including all the excluded directories from GWMT and to see if google will be able to get rid of all these links. What do you think is the best solution to get rid of all these invalid pages. moz1.PNG moz2.PNG moz3.PNG
