HTTPS redirecting to subdomain; do I need to 301 to HTTP first?
-
Hello there, quick question on HTTPS downgrade to HTTP.
Originally, full site was HTTPS. Redesign eliminated need for secure layer. Site currently has https 301'd to sub.domain.com.
Ideally, site would live at domain.com, but with the old site having been indexed https, the security warning triggers when you visit, hence the 301 to a subdomain.
Thinking possible solutions here are to a) add back in secure layer or b) 301 all old https pages to new http pages. Have I overlooked something?
With (a), I will see no SEO impact, correct? With (b), can I expect impact similar to a relaunch? Have seen a lot of chatter that there is some impact in switching http to https, but not much the other way.
Any help much appreciated!

Okay, we'll give it a whirl. Thanks so much for your help!

If you MUST http all pages then a simple rewrite rule will do (if using apache).
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP} !=on
RewriteRule ^/?(.*) http://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R=301,L]Users won't get warnings as that only happens when you are POSTING data from an HTTPS page to an HTTP. Just make sure any sensitive info is transmitted over HTTPS to prevent any eavesdropping.
-
Well, I just don't need it anymore because the store is secure through shopify.
Seems like the best option is to keep the https in place if I can, but if I can't... do I have to 301 all https pages to http pages? And will I still see the security warning when someone enters from an https link?
-
Why would you remove the HTTPS if it was working good?
Pages under HTTPS may be slower if you are using a low end certificate, but it you are using a good provider, HTTPS gives a little more confidence to users.
I will consider having all the pages under HTTPS if the speed isn't affected. Run some tests and check for loading speeds.

App indexing with several subdomains
Hi, We are currently in the process of getting our app developed. From an SEO point of view I want the app to get indexed and am currently trying to get a step by step guide for it. I've come across this helpful guide: https://moz.com/blog/how-to-get-your-app-content-indexed-by-google but need to go a bit deeper now. Questions I have is related to the "apple-app-site-association" file As far as I could find out the JSON code of that file has the following syntax: {_ “applinks”: {__ “apps”: [],__ “details”: [__ {__ “appID”: “9JA89QQLNQ.com.my.bundle.id“,__ “paths”: [ “/myPath1”, “/myPath2/*” ]__ },__ ]__ }_ } My question is related to the key "appID" I'm wondering how the entry would look like if I have 10 country subdomains and would like to make sure that the deep link clicked in the browser is going to the right subdomain page within the app. Current website structure:

Why use a wwwP subdomain naming convention
While working through a series of crawl reports and competitive insights for a site, I noticed one of the competitors had switched from a WWW-version to a wwwP-version. Looking back at the snapshot I took of this during the same time period in 2014, I noticed a significant drop in PA/DA by 20+/-. I'm curious to know if anybody else has experienced something similar, and if anybody can provide insights on why a change like this would even be made? I'll preface it with, everything we could see that this competitor was doing from the outside, was legitimate and propelling them in a positive direction.

Looking to remove SSL because it is causing very slow website download speeds. Does WP have a plugin that redirects SSL urls to non SSL urls?
After some extended debate with our web development team we are considering dropping the SSL from our website because it is adding almost 2 additional seconds to our download speeds. We know there is a SEO boost from having a SSL but we believe the extended download speeds maybe outweighing the benefit. However we are concerned about the SEO implications of having no method possible of redirect SSL to non SSL webpages. Does anybody know of a Wordpress Plugin that can force redirect SSL urls to non SSL urls?

Subdomain pdfs - do you track them?
We've enabled event tracking to monitor clicks to pdfs on our website. All of these pdfs are hosted in a subdomain. The thing is, we offer some valuable pdfs that get a lot of traffic from search engines but I can't track them on Google Analytics. Do you track such pdfs? I can't place tracking code as they are pdfs on a subdomain. Thoughts?

Question #2: All of my INTERNAL links in OSE are being indexed from http://www.e.com/default.asp, and all my EXTERNAL links are linked to http://www.e.com/ am I getting a fraction of the link juice because of that?????
Hey guys, sorry for the really long question, but it appears that I am losing between 50 and 75 % of my link juice to my internal pages. In OSE all main category links (left sidebar) are being indexed from the URL that includes default.asp, even though NONE of my external links include that: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FSulky-Thread-s%2F78.htm If you check the PA for http://www.uncommonthread.com/: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2F You see that it is practically double the PA of http://www.uncommonthread.com/default.asp: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FDefault.asp **Also, non of my internal menu links are being indexed. ** Look at the menu on this page: http://www.uncommonthread.com/Sulky-Thread-s/78.htm and then look at the OSE information here for the "invisible thread" item from the menu on the page above^^^: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FSulky-monofilament-s%2F54.htm Thanks SOOO much! Pre-thumbs and thanks to anyone that can lend me a seconds worth of advice! Thanks again for your time, Tyler A.

Searching for BEST e-Commerce Multilanguage Platform, Need Advice
I have 2 online store in Canada. Both are selling One bilingual (English&french) Filtration Montreal and a unilinguale store Furnace Filters Canada Both are offering the same products at the same price for Canadian. We work hard to rank on Google.ca because we only sell and ship to Canada. The platform of Filtration Montreal is very basic and limited. For example, the url structure make it very hard to rank on Google.ca This platform is very not SEO friendly with url like: http://www.filtrationmontreal.com/en/product/honeywell-genuine-filter-95/pack-of-5-genuine-honeywell-furnace-filters-20x20x5-601.html The only good thing about this platform, is the multilingual option. The customer can shop in french or English. I would like to move that store to a new platform where I can create a multilingual online store. Do you have sugestions? Furnace Filters Canada is on BigCommerce. I find it SEO friendly. Using SEOmoz tools and new to SEO, high competitive keywords like: furnace filters, furnace filter are ranking on 3rd rank in Google.ca fist page! This site is getting more & more visitors every months. The only frustrating thing is the English only version of the stores to customers. QUESTIONS: What will be the SEO impact if I'm moving Furnace Filters Canada to a new platform? Do you have suggestions in finding the perfect multilanguage e-Commerce platform? Andrew Bleakley suggest Ashop. Anybody using Ashop? How about a eCommerce platform that can manage my 2 stores at the same time. REMEMBER, we sell and ship to Canada only. Thank you for your help and support. BigBlaze

Optimzing a new ecommerce site, Need help with URL
Hi We are putting up a new ecommerce website and for product description, our tech team indicates that they must have the skun numbers in the URL. Which one of the following URL structure do you find the most SEO freindly? 1. http://www.Site.com/SKUNumber/ProductDescription/ or 2. http://www.Site.com/ProductDescription/SKUNumber/ My personal opinion is that most relevant content should be on load page so I like option 1. Thanks
