If Google Trends Doubles?
-
If google shows a search trend doubling in a time frame, does that mean the amount of searches doubled?
As in: 2006 was ranked at a 50 on trends and the 100 is 2013 and in 2013 10,000 searches were made, does that mean around 5,000 searches were made in 2006?

Thanks Tim.
Hopefully someday they'll give me what I want: Historical Data
It would be nice to have an idea about how search numbers change over periods of years.

Hi Josh,
Unfortunately, Google doesn't make it that easy to reverse-calculate search volume from Google Trends. Google Trends is really a comparison tool, not a tool for determining exact searches.
The data you see is the percentage of search volume for a particular keywords compared to the total search volume of all keywords in the region (or language or any other parameters) you've set. This is then normalized on a scale 0-100. Kind of confusion so let's take a simple example.
- 2010: Searches for your keyword - 5, Global searches for all keywords - 100, % of total - 5%
- 2011: Searches for your keyword - 8, Global searches for all keywords - 80, % of total - 10%
- 2012: Searches for your keyword - 10, Global searches for all keywords - 120, % of total - 8.3%
So Google Trends would show the change from 2010 to 2011 as doubling, but the search volume for you keyword didn't double - only the percentage did because total search volume went down. And it would show the 2011 to 2012 trend as dropping even though searches for your keyword went because global search increase much more than your keyword.
On the Google Trends graph, 2010 would show as 1, 2011 would be 100, and 2012 would be about 70. Each year the search volume for your keyword increased, but Google Trends wouldn't show this because it's compared to the total search volume for the region.
This is way oversimplified, but hopefully you get the idea behind how it works.
Tim

If we have all products on-site for indexing, do we get dinged by Google for not transacting on-site?
I am trying to do research on the SEO impact of having an off-site transactional website. For example, Pepsi.com lists all product information on their site but guides visitors to transact on Amazon or Walmart. What impact, if any, does guiding the customer to a separate transactional site have on SEO? In short, if we have all products on-site for indexing, do we get dinged by Google for not transacting on-site?

Help for a webstore with Google Warnings for Watermark Images and Panda
I have not had too much experience with helping websites that have been hit by Panda - any tried and tested formulas I can pass to website owner would be great. He does not want to reveal domain name - its in the area of children/baby products 'Web site featured on page 1 of Google search results for many years (website 5 years old- Australian domain) . In April/May 2014, Google suspended our Google Shopping account because we used watermarks on all our images. We were advised that the suspension would remain in place indefinitely or until such time the watermarks were removed. We wrote back to Google to explain that these watermarks were put in place by our store back 2005 with the sole purpose of protecting our intellectual property. Needless to say, their attitude was unwavering. And as a result, revenue plummeted. However, the perfect storm was about to hit our store without warning. In the same month, Panda 4.0 was unleashed and our store was hit once again. This update alone reduced visitor numbers by around 50% overnight. The Panda 4.0 algorithm update was designed to target poor quality, duplicate content and unfortunately we had some of it. We have now begun creating original content with many of the new products we're uploading onto our web site. It's slow and tedious. We have modified our web site to now include a tag on a the home page (this was missing). We have removed many duplicate links from our footer (it was too big and contained hundreds of links that were also repeated from the header). We introduced a blog and we have engaged the services of a local seo company to disavow any bad backlinks and add missing or improve existing content to category and brand pages. No improvement in our situation is yet visible and with Christmas just 3 months away, poor sales during our 'bread and butter' period will mean even tougher times for our store in 2015. ANY PANDA EXPERTS who can help please email me felicity@gardenbeet.com - looking for independent freelancers rather than agencies

Strange Google SERP Layout: Anyone?
I haven't been able to repeat this, but I just saw a strange Google SERP layout. The screenshot is attached below. Has anyone else seen something like this? I kind of rubbed my eyes and wondered 'if it was kicking in'. ca2JqaP

Drop in Traffic from Google, However no change in the rankings
I have seen a 20% drop in traffic from google last week (After April 29th). However when I try to analyze the rank of the keywords in the google results that send me traffic they seem to be the same. Today (6th March) Traffic has fallen further again with not much/any visible change in the rankings. Any ideas on what the reason for this could be? I have not made any changes to the website recently.

Is it normal to receive 2 mails from Google?
I filed a reconsideration request that was answered in less than a week. Subsequently I was told that no manual penalty was in place but various algorithm factors might be causing my heavy drops in ranking. Then I got a second email which was even more specific. This was great, really heartening stuff and a total surprise as it was very helpful. Is it normal to receive 2 emails from Google with such clear information? I have been very pleased by the comments they have made as it has shown me that they're more customer focused than I had been led to believe by all the research I had done pre reconsideration request. Has anyone else had a clear outline of what they needed to fix and has their site subsequently rebounded post fixing?
