Site does not rank on Google's country specific search engines.

My site shows up on the first page of 'google.com' but not on the other search engines like google.co.uk / google.co.in / google.com.au. It shows up on the 3rd or 4th page for the most part.
My competitors' sites rank consistently across all geographical versions of Google. Is there something i am missing out on? My website is a web applicaton and not a business listing.

Andy, I really appreciate the time and effort you have put in.
Last time i checked today, Google IN positioned it on the 4th page. I have tried to nullify the caching/ IP/ location effect on search results.
Maybe it was because of the localization of language that Derek pointed out. Thanks once again Derek
Time to push the rankings further up!

OK, so the results are in
- Google AU - Position 5
- Google IN - Position 8
- Google UK - Position 7
- Google US - Position 5
A lot of the time, search results are messed up when trying to search from your own machine as there can be cache, location, IP and all other kinds of issues.

1. This has been helpful to us in the past. Give it a try if you don't mind spending the money on the TLDs. Just 301 redirect them to the .com.
2. Even though it is a web app, do you do any sort of blogging or content marketing? What's the URL of the app?
3. What I mean by this is, have you tried building relationships with press/bloggers/content creators located in the countries/geographies that you are targeting?

2. Since it is a web application, there isn't much text content on the webpage. It is a single page application. General instructions on using the web application are in English though.
There is no such targeted content/topic.
3. I don't understand what that means. Can you kindly elaborate?
4. I just realized that in the index.html of the site, there is a lang='en' attribute attached to the html tag. I promptly removed the same and submitted the site in GWT. Thanks for pointing this.

A few other things you might want to consider:
- Do you have the country TLDs registered (.au, .co.in, etc.)? Do you have websites at those domains or at least 301ing to your .com?
- Do you have geographically targeted content? I'm not talking keywords, I'm talking relevant content and topics for the geographies in which your targeting.
- Have you tried PR outreach in those geographic areas?
- Do you localize your content (translate to appropriate languages)?

There are so many reasons why this could be. So when you say your competitors are ranked consistently over all geographical version of Google, are they all ranked highly? How are you testing this? Are you sure this is not your location skewing the results?
I would be happy to do a little testing for you if you wish. I will place these into my SERP tracking and set different Google countries to see where everyone appears.

Business has multiple locations, but want to rank for commutable cities, geographies
Hello, The business I am working for has multiple locations, but the service they provide is one that you would commute for. At present, they have 20 or so pages with yucky geographical keyword stuffed content (think "New York computer services" and they are based out of a suburb (maybe 40 miles away). For some ridiculous reason, some of these pages are ranking for exact match search terms? We are in the process of revamping the whole site-taking approx five sites and integrating into one mega site. I want to first, figure out the best strategy for ranking for the region that each is in and serve, without being spammy like the previous SEO. I want to eliminate the spammy pages without losing the rank and link juice. What is the most appropriate and above-board strategy? These are my thoughts. Should I: 1. Keep the pages, but tweak them enough to make the content quality? If I do, should they be geo pages? Should they be "locations served", statistics of the area, etc? 2. Group the pages according to region (one page per region) that are location-oriented and tweaked to still include the terms they were ranking for (without the spammy look and stuffing), along with a map, etc? And then, I have to figure out how to redirect so not to lose the value we have now for some of them. The company deals with treatment for addiction, so in recommending and tips-remember that our audience will commute by car, and eventually (hopefully) by plane. 😉 Thank you so so much for any and all help you can provide! Google still indexing home page even after with 301 - Ecommerce Website

We have a 301 redirect problem. Google seems to continue indexing a 301 redirect to our old home page. Even after months. We have a multiple language domain, with subfolders: www.example.com (ex page, now with a redirect to the right locale in the right country) www.example.com/it/home (canonical) www.example.com/en/home (canonical) www.example.com/es/home (canonical) www.example.com/fr/home (canonical) www.example.com/de/home (canonical) We still see the old page (www.example.com) in Google results, with old metadata in English and, just in some countries (i.e.: France), we see the correct result, the "new" homepage, www.example.com/fr/home in first position.
The real problem is that Google is still indexing and showing www.example.com as the "real" and "trusted" URL, even if we set: a 301 redirect the right language for every locale in Google Search Console a canonical tag to the locale url an hreflang tag inside the code a specific sitemap with hreflang tag specified for the new homepages Now our redirect process is the following (Italy example).
www.example.com -->301
www.example.com/en/home --> default version --->301
www.example.com/it/home --> 200 Every online tool, from Moz to Bot simulators see that there is a 301. So Correct. Google Search Console says that: on www.example.com there is a 301 (correct) in the internal link section of Google Search Console the www.example.com is still in first position with 34k links. Many of these links are cominig from property subdomains. Should we change those links inside those third level domain? From www.example.com to www.example.com/LOCALE/home? the www.example.com/LOCALE/home are the real home page, they give 200 code Do you know if there's a way to delete the old home page from Google results since this is 301? Do you think that, even after a 301 redirect, if Google sees too many internal links decides to ignore the 301? Thanks for your help! Davide0 -
Ranking could be better - wondering why
Hi there, I do SEO for the page conny-ehm.de. I improved the subsite http://www.conny-ehm.de/bewerbungsfotos-freiburg.html to receive an A grade by the on-page grader for the words Bewerbungsfotos Freiburg. However when searching for Bewerbungsfotos Freiburg it is not the subsite that shows up but the main page www.conny-ehm.de. This however get an F in the on-page grader. What should I do to improve the ranking? I do not care which one shows up but I think it should be feasible to get under the top 3. a) Should I improve also the main page for the keywords? I think than I am building an internal concurrence to the subsite which is maybe rather bad. b) Should I place a del canonical on the main site referring to the subsite? c) ??? Canonical for blog tag or search site
Dear all, I have problem with duplicate content on my site and crawled by seomoz as "duplicate content", might be i am not clear enough about how to put "canoncial" but the problem is with my site mostly on blog or tags or categories, so some link that actually different tags ....come with same result..so like: http://www.livingwordfreelutheran.org/news-events/blog/tag/ Gymnastics and http://www.livingwordfreelutheran.org/news-events/blog/tag/ God's Power It will show same result..the problem is,all are dynamic... and what i should put the canonical for that page? Both of link use same page or controller? If i put the canonical itself on each result it will be fix it? Or how? …and also I confusing how I put it also on search result? Website Rankings - Provincial Movers
Hello Moz Community, We have been working with a company called Provincial Movers to optimize their website.
