Many changes carried out - Caused a rankings dip one week on?
-
Hi all!
Last week various changes were carried out on a website which has large traffic daily.
The changes included;- Re-structure of product meta titles ~500
- Re-structure of product meta description ~500
- Canonical link included on the majority of pages ~600
Meta details have only been changed mildly
Title has gone from
Name | Product Code | Category | Company Name
To
Name | Category | Collection | Company Name
IF the title is shorter than 62 characters, the price gets added in.
Name | Category | Collection | Price | Company NameDescriptions have been cut shortIF description is over 156 characters the word on the limit is cut off and replaced with ...
Canonical LinksReasoning for adding a canonical link for each product was to point Google in the right direction.
- Upper and Lower case within the URL are reachable
- .aspx / .html at the end of each page
- Canonical link added in the meta directing to a lower case version of the URL.
Rankings have been reduced across various keywords, however a few have had a positive impact.
Would you say this is a dip before a mild rise, or something I've done is harming the rankings and needs to be reversed? I'd appreciate any advice given.
Many Thanks
-
Thank you for your responses. Just to update you all to say after the rankings dip, they're more or less back to where they were, fingers crossed the rise continues. Regards

Like Andy said, I wouldn't worry too much if it's only been about a week. I've seen various issues such as canonical tags being added to a site's pages that have taken a long time (up to two months) to be ironed out.
If you have refreshed the content, the best thing you can do is to make sure those pages are crawled quickly. You can use social media (Twitter, Google+, etc.) to Tweet and mention those URLs and get them crawled. I would have a strategy in place to get new trusted, authority type links to those pages, as well.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. There is often a period of adjustment when lots of changes have been made and there is nothing there that would give me cause for concern.
My only suggestion would have been to try a smaller number of pages first of all before committing to all / lots of pages, but hindsight is a wonderful thing
I would wait it out for a little bit and just monitor keyword positions in the SERPs for now.

Ranking issue for new website
Hi all, I have got a specific SEO challenge. 6 months ago, we started to build an eCommerce site (located in the UK). In order to speed up the site launch, we copied the entire site over from an existing site based in Ireland. Now, the new UK site has been running for 5 months. Google has indexed many pages, which is good, but we can't rank high (position: between 20-30 for most pages). We thought it was because of content duplication in spite of different regions. So we tried to optimize the pages for the UK site to make them more UK-related and avoid content duplication. I've also used schema to tell google it's a UK-based site and set up Google my business and got more local citations. Besides, If you could give me any suggestions, it'd be perfect.

Regret changing the URL structure, Would it be appropriate to change it back?
Hi Moz Community, We changed the URL structure 6 months ago for our new site, and we experienced a ranking drop since then. From my understanding, changing URL structure and using 301 redirects will lose link juice, more or less. We think the ranking drop is because of the loss of link juice, assuming other factors remain constant. Here are my questions: How do those link juice losses have an impact on our ranking? Would changing URL structure back to original version regain the lost link juice, with all the redirects done properly? Would it take a lot of efforts? Is it recommended to change it back? Thank you so much in advance. Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated! Best, Raymond

Can one back-link fluctuates ranking of website with thousands of back-links?
It happend to our website. We have seen major ranking fluctuations for our website because of one back-link. What kind of links those can be? Why Google is not stopping them even though they claim that such back-links will be taken care of?

One landing page or many?
I can not understand which is the best way to target similar keywords. Do the best way is create landingpage for each long tail keyword landing page or better one but with all included keywords? On the siste i have landingpages: 1. Metal doors 1.2. Steel doors for private houses 1.3. Metal doors for flats 1.4 Metal doors for technical rooms and so on. In Latvian language it sounds ok. Some time ago for other sites it worked good but now it just does not work. I see google meses these results up and seo performance is bad. Can you suggest correct structure? Thanks

Should I try to change these links or no?
Hey guys, I need some advice on a link profile I'm currently working on. Our client sells a product in the hunting industry and has been around for over ten years. I just finished up classifying and looking at all of their links today and found that around half of them are sponsor links, links on "link pages," and a few directory links with almost all of them being followed. Because we are the first company to do SEO for them, I know that these aren't maliciously solicited links, but I'm worried that they may be having a negative impact on the site. Most of the links are coming from other non-competing websites in the outdoor industry which typically tends to have very antiquated sites with very antiquated practices. Essentially, I don't want to go out and try to nofollow or disavow all of these links that the website has had for a long time on other related websites if they're helping us, but I also don't want to be leaving anything up that could algorithmically be identified as spam. Below are some examples to show you what I'm referring to by the sponsor links and link resource pages. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! Why does this site rank above us?
We own www.discountbannerprinting.co.uk and over the last 8 months have built some decent guest post, charity and customer links but still we seem to be beaten on good words such as banners, banner, vinyl banner, pvc banner etc by this website www-signfirm.com we just cannot figure out how this is happening and would be very grateful if someone with great wisdom could give us an in-site into why this is happening and we would be very grateful..

Is it enough just to buy a .co.uk domain and set the nameserver up or do we need to get a british hosting? Thanks in advance. Mike

My site still out of rank
Hello, I am working on a site for past 3 months, here are the problems with this site, 1. It had a forum full of spam becuase initially captcha was not included, 10000 spam backlinks 2. Affiliate page was also hit by spam about 4000 spam backlinks which were either not existing or porn etc.... 3. Too many internal links which were indexed, these additional links were generated due to tags, ids, filters etc. Existing SEO team decided to remove the forum and after 30 days they blocked it in robots. But within 30 days the site moved from 3rd page to no where. Now after few days lator internal links are also cleaned by putting following in the robots, Dissallow: / *? Dissallow: / *id Dissallow: / *tag Links are now cleaning up, all the spam and bad links are now put into disavow file and sent to google via disavow tool. On daily bases good quality links are been produced such as through content, article submission, profile linking, Bookmarks etc. The site is still not any where on top 50 results. The impressions are decreasing, traffic also do not rise as much. How do you see all this situation. What do you suggest and how long do you think it will take to return to top 10 when good linking is being done and all preventive measures are being taken. I would appreciate any feedback on it. Thank you. Site URL: http://www.creativethemes.net keywords: magento themes, magento templates
