Moving my website that is currently fully https (ssl) to http (non ssl).
-
Hey MOZ Community.
I have a site that is currently full https (ssl) and what to move it to http (non-ssl).
How will this move effect my SEO and what would be the best method of doing so without causing to much damage?

Hi Rickus,
As long as you remember the https --> http redirects and changing any canonicals, you really shouldn't see any issues. There is no advantage or disadvantage to one over the other either way. Check out this MOZ post on best practice redirection for hints.
That said, do remember that Google will treat this like a completely new site and with it, you might see some bouncing around of positions in the SERPs while everything is settling down again. That might be completely unavoidable.

Mobile sitemap needed for responsive website?
I've seen some older 2012 posts that discuss, but nothing recent given the new changes to emphasize mobile. For website that are already tested and verified as mobile responsive, is best practice to develop a mobile-specific sitemap and submit that as well? Or will any mobile crawlers spider the regular sitemap?

HTTPS vs HTTP
A few months ago we switched all product page urls in our e-commerce site to https: Recently working on the site I was appalled at how slow our pages were loading and on investigating further with our hosting partner they advised to switch back to http instead of https for all of the site content to help page speed. We obviously still need to use https in the cart and check-out. I think that that Google will be pushing all commerce web pages to https but for now I need to improve page load speed. Will the switch back from https to http impair our keywords? https://www.silverandpewtergifts.com/

Https Duplicate Content
My previous host was using shared SSL, and my site was also working with https which I didn’t notice previously. Now I am moved to a new server, where I don’t have any SSL and my websites are not working with https version. Problem is that I have found Google have indexed one of my blog http://www.codefear.com with https version too. My blog traffic is continuously dropping I think due to these duplicate content. Now there are two results one with http version and another with https version. I searched over the internet and found 3 possible solutions. 1 No-Index https version

Competitive vs. non-competitive keywords
Posting this on behalf of a friends at a breast and ovarian cancer support organization... We're trying to improve our web site's results in search engines. I've been reading up on SEO and learning that it's wise to optimize for more specialized keywords rather than for highly competitive keywords (e.g., "triple negative breast cancer," instead of "breast cancer"). Practically speaking, how does this work when you're optimizing content? Does "triple negative breast cancer" need to appear multiple times in the page's content and is there an optimal place on the page where it should appear? Do keyword tags actually work, or should we not even bother spending time on adding them? How about title tags and description metatags? Will they help with search results? I know that increasing the number of outside links makes a difference, but will it help if I provide links from one page on our web site to another? Thanks!

Switching to HTTPS
I'm trying to get my server PCI Compliant and they want me to switch the forums at http://www.usacarry.com/forums/ over to https because of the logins. Could this possibly affect my existing rankings?

Transfer of website to maintain SEO
I am nearly finished building a new wordpress website to replace the old static HTML site which is currently doing very well in SERPs. My old site is currently hosted by a company who owns the site, my domain is registered with a different company and I have the nameservers pointed at Cloudflare. I have built my new site and have it hosted with a different company and I wish to keep the domain name registered with the company it is currently with.Is there an order that I should follow to move from the old site to the new site using my current domain name so that I minimize any impact on SEO. I built the new site with the same URL structure to maintain linking benefit. thanks

Do you validate you websites?
Do you consider the guidelines from http://validator.w3.org/ when setting up a new website? As far as I know they don't influence rankings ... What is your opinion about that topix?
