Open Site Explorer is reporting "0" value under "Total Internal Links" as well as "Internal Followed Links" metrics for my website. I have a good interlinking of pages throughout the site.
Is there an issue with OSE (Open Site Explorer) crawler ? OR There are some crawling problems with our Website's structure ?
Can anybody please give an idea or recommendations on this ?

            Hi David,

I am having a similar problem with one of my sites. completeslidingdoors.com says I have 0 internal links when i very clearly have many. Could you take a quick look at this and let me know what you think?

            Thanks in advance!

            Eric

Hi David, I am seeing the same thing, would it be possible to look at https://www.yourtravelspark.com/

My Moz report is also saying that I went from 10.3k links in August to 526 last month - any reason that would happen?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

                Jaclyn.

The links should be more diverse and the external pages are being link to from diverse links and so forth and so forth. There is no exact number of links I can say that would allow our crawler to crawl the links, as it can depend on many factors.

For http://www.eskewdumezripple.com, we are indexing links to multiple category/tag URLs that are contributing to the link count for example:

                    http://www.eskewdumezripple.com/studio-life/archives/2014/05
                    http://www.eskewdumezripple.com/studio-life/blog/by_tag/tag/community+engagement

You can use pagination to see what type of links are being picked up here: https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/pages?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eskewdumezripple.com%2F&no_redirects=0&sort=page_authority&filter=all&page=1

HTTP status will indicate wether or not we crawled the page (200 status or No Data).

                    Hope this helps

                      David,

Thank you for your prompt response.

However, I know that http://trahanarchitects.com/ has in fact obtained several external links (around 20) all pointing back to the homepage in the past 160 days. So are you saying in order for Moz to crawl our internal links (which it's incorrectly has indexed at 0) we should be obtaining external links for more than just our homepage? It sounds to me like the issue is our external links aren't diverse enough.

I also found another discrepancy when looking at a competitors website. According to the Moz tool, http://www.eskewdumezripple.com/ has 144,000 internal links, but there is no possible way this is correct. According to Google http://www.eskewdumezripple.com/ only has 610 pages indexed. That's an insane number of internal links for such few pages. And when looking at the website you can tell just by looking that there aren't 144k internal links. Please advise.

                        Hi Will

Sorry to hear we have not crawled your site.

There are currently no new links going to any page on the site that will send us back for possible crawling. Also many of the pages indexed are returning 404s.

                        https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/pages?site=http%3A%2F%2Ftrahanarchitects.com%2Fwork%2Fholy-rosary%2F&sort=page_authority&filter=all&page=1

                        https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/just-discovered?site=http%3A%2F%2Ftrahanarchitects.com%2F&filter=&source=&target=domain&page=1&sort=crawled

To stay in an index and potentially have metrics calculated, you want to have continuous and fresh links going to the site to active pages. It most likely that the external links were captured over a span of time within a 160 day window but not enough close together to deem your site important to crawl. These are both the most common reasons we may index links but not crawl.

                        Hope this helps!

I'm having the same issue with the following domain: http://trahanarchitects.com/

It's saying the site has 0 internal links but we know that is not true. Our external links are registering but not our internal links. Please advise.

                            Hello!

Your site does not have enough links or authority for us to crawl.

                            https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/pages?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bijouxusa.com&sort=page_authority&filter=all&page=1

Keep link building to all pages on your site and on sites that are frequently visited with high authority which can help increase your score.

                              David,

                              Same here. (http://www.bijouxusa.com)

                              Our page authority shows 34

I am seeing Total Internal Links and Internal Equity-Passing Links as 0.

                              Is this any actionable information?

                              Thanks for your help

                                Hi Chloe

It's possible that your site's authority is too low for us to crawl your internal pages. The Crawl delay in robots could also be preventing us from crawling.

You will want to keep link building as currently there are no new links being discovered which means we won't revisit your site until we can find quality links from other sites: https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/just-discovered?site=ccsadoption.org%2F&filter=&source=&target=domain&page=1&sort=crawled

                                Hope this helps

                                    Hi arb3ux!

It appears your site/server is blocking our user-agent when we start from http://, we receive no response when we attempt to crawl as rogerbot or dotbot

I can reach your site directly by going to https://

So there is a configuration preventing us from reaching http to be re-directed to https

I recommend reaching out to your hosting provider to help isolate the issue. Please let me know if they make any specific changes and I can re-run the test to see if future crawls will be able to index your links. 🙂

                                        Hi Travis

I am seeing No Data for the HTTP status for your top pages so while we can find external links to your page, we have not indexed your site yet but it is processing and you should see your site indexed after our next update on 10/27.

                                        Hope this helps!

                                            Hello!

For sparta.nl it appears we haven't fully crawled the https site but have previously crawled non-https which now have 301 re-directs to the new URL. You should see your internal linking numbers increase over the next few crawls as it can take time for the metrics to change over.

Your robots.txt is blocking us with the wildcard directive at the very bottom.

                                                    You will want to add:

                                                    User-agent: dotbot
                                                    Disallow:

This should update when we release a new index next month.

                                                    Hope this helps!

                                                        Hi Anirban!

OSE crawls differently from our diagnostics crawler so it doesn't quite follow the link structure within the source code unless we can reach the page through other important sites that are linking to you.

Just so you know, here's how we compile our index:

                                                        • We grab the most recent index.
                                                        • We take the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank (with a fixed limit on some of the larger domains).
                                                        • We start crawling from the top down until we've crawled 90,000,000,000 pages (which is about 35% the amount in Google's index).

Therefore, if the site is not linked to by one of these seed URLs (or one of the URLs linked to by them in the next update) then it won't show up in our index.

Other times can be re-directs and javascript and server errors that would prevent access to the site. If you can tell me your domain name I would love to take a look.

                                                        Talk to you soon!

Unsolved Huge Increase In Internal Links + Domain Authority Tanked

                                                          internal linking domain authority

Hey, I am very concerned about the link metrics I am seeing, really hoping someone can help. In October last year there were a total of 34.7K 'total links' attributed to my E-commerce website . This compared to 41.2k and 213k links attributed to my two main competitors. In November, my website had a forced update due to incompatibility issues my shopping cart version was having with the server on which it is hosted. (I was told by my web developers / hosting company that their server was upgraded.) This update created many problems such as checkout issues, page layout issues, sitemaps not automatically regenerating and the big one - it reverted back to http instead of https. Along with my developers, I spent 2 weeks fixing all of the issues until everything worked correctly and https was reinstated. After initial warnings from Moz, I have not received any critical crawler issues or warnings, big ranking drops etc since November. I was satisfied that all was ok. However, in November my 'total links' jumped to 81.5k and have since continued to balloon. December - 309.1k, January -335k, February - 665k, March - 716k, April - 719k, May - 742k, June - 751k. In the same period (November - June), my external links went from 5.3k - 8.7k. So it appears the huge increase in links are internal. In my latest report it states that 'internal follow links' are up by 8k and 'internal no follow links' are up by 1k. This is insane. I cannot understand why I have so many internal links and why they keep increasing. I maintain the website with updates, blog articles etc but no more than I have in the past several years. Worryingly, once this increase in links started being reported, my Domain Authority has also tanked. In October my DA was 37 (higher than my competitors) and has since dropped as low as 19. It has gone up to 21 this month (still significantly lower than my competitors). I have spent hours researching why this huge increase in internal links could be happening but have got nowhere. If anyone could advise what the issue could be and how I can fix it, I would be eternally grateful. Issues I have discovered along the way that may help with analysis:
My site has many 404s (hundreds) - all relate to urls of old images that have been removed from the website. The 'Top Hits' on my website are from blogs (some spammy) to these deleted image urls that return a 404. I don't use any plugins. I do get 'duplicate content' notices as my blog posts archive themselves and generate new urls - as an example - 'blog post name' archived December 2023. It may be the case that the old http urls have been redirected to https but I have no warnings for 'redirect issues' in Moz. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help.

Hello everyone. My website (I am attaching the link to it, if you cannot attach the link remove it but please give me an answer) https://mejorhora.com/ 3 MONTHS ago I made different redirections from other websites that I have with high authority in order to increase both the Da and the DR since I sell links to that website and it suits me. Ahref showed me all the links after a few days, also in search console. However, in Moz it does not recognize more than 500 new domains that give me links. Because? It's been 3 months... What should I do?

I was using the Link Explorer tool. However, when I go to yahoo Search I see that the website of harmonyhit.com is indexed in Yahoo search and has links to the site. Also, it's sitemap has been recently crawled in Bing webmaster tools which Yahoo uses. Why does our client have the backlink accounted for and we do not?

But when I get the domain authority and link data from MOZ it has only ten links and no one of them is from local/national directories. I have three questions: Do you know if it is normal that after 9 months DA is 1? Is there any problem with local/national directory links? I dont like buy links like others do but it seems the only way to improve domain authority and rankings.

Moz's new Link Explorer, including our revamped index and DA/PA scores is now open to everyone!

Hey Moz Community, Link Explorer is now open to the public! Everyone can access it via a subscription or a free Moz ‘Community’ account. As you may know by now, the brand-new Link Explorer tool is primed to replace Open Site Explorer as Moz’s link building and analysis tool. The Link Explorer project is the result of an incredible amount of perseverance and hard work by the team, and we’re proud to be able to finally share it with you — we know it’s going to revolutionize how you approach link building and make your job easier. You can read more about the tool here in Sarah Bird’s announcement post. Because Link Explorer improves on almost every aspect of Open Site Explorer, the metrics have improved, too. That means you’re likely going to see some Domain Authority and Page Authority discrepancies between OSE’s index and Link Explorer’s index. We definitely suggest you use the new DA/PA from Link Explorer, as they’re more accurate and refresh daily rather than monthly, as was the case with OSE’s index. However, we also realize that many of you use these metrics to report to your clients and colleagues, and a sudden change or fluctuation could potentially make your job harder. Which DA is the real DA? The new DA is based on a much larger index that has many improvements, several of which are designed to make the index more like Google’s than ever before. You should consider moving towards the new DA (and the old DA won’t be updated after April 26th 2018, so the sooner the better). While there will be fluctuations as we improve the model and add features to the index, we expect it to remain largely stable and to be a far more accurate picture of a site’s authority according to how it’s seen by Google. Why is Link Explorer’s DA/PA considered better than OSE’s, and which should I trust? The larger link index with improved crawl selection allows us to produce a stronger model that includes a much larger proportion of the web. That being said, DA and PA should always be considered in the context of your competitors. A drop in PA or DA relative to the old OSE is of little concern if your competitors saw similar movement. Is Domain Authority/Page Authority an absolute score or a relative one? Both DA and PA are relative to the Internet as a whole. If Facebook acquired a billion new links, everyone’s PA and DA would drop relative to Facebook. Because of this, it’s always best to look at PA and DA in comparison to your competitors. What does a drop/raise in DA mean in Link Explorer vs OSE? How can I explain this to my clients when I’m reporting it? DA and PA should always be considered in the context of your competitors. A drop or raise in PA or DA relative to the old OSE is of little concern if your competitors saw similar movement. Reporting that your site has moved from a DA of 45 to a DA of 42 doesn’t tell the whole story, but reporting that your site has a DA of 42 while your main competitor moved from a 43 to a 37 shows that, relative to the sites you’re competing against in the SERPs, your site has significantly more authority and ranking power. What’s happening to MozTrust and MozRank and why, and what should I replace those with? The improvements to our DA/PA and Spam Score metrics now now account for more important nuances in helping you determine one site’s ability to rank higher than another. Because they no longer correlate with Google’s ranking model as well as they used to, MozRank and MozTrust are being deprecated for better metrics. Users should rely on Page Authority, Domain Authority, and Spam Score to determine the importance and quality of pages, domains, and links. I have historical data I use to help my clients benchmark their progress. What do I do now that DA is calculated differently? You should annotate any KPI changes referencing the change in DA and PA. However, most importantly, you should compare those changes to your competitors, as this will best show how strong your site’s authority is relative to the sites you’re competing against in the SERPs. We take updating our metrics very seriously, and our last major update to the model was 7 years ago. Users of Domain Authority and Page Authority can expect us to continue to produce steady, reliable metrics for the long haul, and only make changes to these metrics when we believe the benefits dramatically outweigh the stability of the metric. Do you have any questions about the new metrics? Anticipating a tough time reporting changes to clients or bosses? Metrics, features or functionality missing that you would want to see? Let us know in the thread, and we’ll work to find a good answer for you. Hope you enjoy the new Link Explorer product and the amazing new link index powering it. We are very excited to provide this valuable data to our community and customers.

Moz Pro: Linking RDs to Page much lower than Google Search Console

I'm trying to use the Analyze Keyword tool in Moz Pro, and in the SERP Analysis table, my page has a PA of one, and zero root domains linking to it. If I look at the page in Google Search console, it says I have 229 root domains linking to the page from well known domains like github.com, meetup.com, stackoverflow.com, etc. This particular keyword has been tracked in Moz for the last 6 months, but I just noticed that it was extremely low. I am relatively new to Moz, so forgive me if I sound confused, but can someone explain to me how the numbers can be so low?

Because it's likely to have more accurate metrics, we're showing data for the redirected URL instead. Click here to analyze https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ instead? My current site is https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ not sure why it is redirecting to my old domain. Weird. My web developer couldn't explain this issue. Saying that I also go my first analytics report and in priority issues I have http://a-fotografy.co.uk   302 redirect and not sure where it is redirecting to. If someone could shed some light of how to figure out how to find exactly what is redirecting to what and where is the problem. Thank you guys, Regards, Armands
